So - who is going to see this?  Who is going to NOT see this?

Should they have made the movie, or not?  Does it matter?

Curious about thoughts.

Apparently it is quite well made, if that matters - not a MOTW at all.

I dont think that I will go see it. Just because I hate to pay $9.00 for a movie ticket. It really doesnt matter to me whether or not they made it into a movie. However, I'm sure that some people are going to have problems with it.

I'm going this weekend. My wife won't go, and my friend Brandon won't go, but Brandon's fiance might, so we'll probably go. It's the same situation with roller coasters. My wife and my friend won't ride, by his fiance will.

It still gives me chills to see the preview and to read about it, but I'm drawn to see it.

The guy playing the air traffic controller in the movie is really the air traffic controller from that day, the one who shut down the sky. He had come back from retirement to do the job, and it was his first day back. He said that it was good it was him to make that call and not somebody who had a career to worry about. He didn't care about the repercussions if he was wrong.

Before they made it they asked all the families of the victims for permision, and the director who did it did Bloody Sunday which is another touchy topic for some. I trust Greengrass to make it tasteful and so far according to reviewers it is tasteful and not overdramatic like Oliver Stone's World Trade Center will be. I for one will see it if I have the time. If you feel its too soon and don't want to sit through it, then don't, it's as simple as that.

I have the same feelings, but different conclusion.  I won't be anywhere near this movie for a long time.

I am neutral on the existence of the movie, although I am very happy they did it properly (as Dave pointed out), with good people.

I am very curious how this one does at the box office.

i'm not particularly planning to go see it, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. as far as i know, it basically shows the passangers who were able to realize the truth and act on it. i respect those who chose to re-take the plane and not sit back and wish for a smooth landing. i don't blame the others for being afraid/hopeful, but i feel proud for those who stepped up.

NOT going to see it... I just dont consider them the national hero's many people claim them to be.

If they amde a movie on a fire fighter that CHOSE to run into one of the WTC towers... then by all means, make a movie on him and I'll watch it...

THEY are the real hero's... the ones that CHOSE to go in.. Cops, firefighters, Paramedics.

NOT the ones that just reacted to a circumstance.

As far as too soon. No it is not. It has been 5 years. Too soon for families maybe( a HUGE maybe), but not for people that were nowhere near it.

I almost want to say it is too late.

The cops and firefighters reacted to the circumstance too. They had the opportunity to help others, and they did. The people on the flight did the same. The people on the plane CHOSE to fight the terrorists. In my mind, they are all equals.

Sammy...

Cops/FF CHOSE to run into a burning building. From what I know, very little if any were already in there when it happened. Therefore, they CHOSE to help.

The passengers were on a flight that was attacked. They didn't wait till it was hijacked before going "Oh lets go see if we can fight back and possibly help people!"

No.. they were in it. Therefore, in my opinion, NOT hero's.

From what I know, as in what I've read, seen on tv, or heard int he recordings, they had NO intention on saving other people. From what I know, and it could be wrong, them fighting to save "The White House" or "Congress" is PURE speculation.

Now.. if anyone has a recording saying otherwise, I'd GLADLY listen to it and possibly change my mind.. but as of now, IMO, it was a pseudo-selfless act turned heroic by the media. Psuedo-selfless as in they had more intention on saving their lives more than of others.

I don't understand your arguement Linus so I'm going to make an equation

Firefighters= at rest
Police= at rest

Plane hits WTC=Firefighters/Police React

Flight crew= at rest
Passengers= at rest

Plane is hijacked and they know there have been others hijacked that day= Passengers and Flight crew react.

Its the same thing, they both reacted to a situation thats what first responders do.

I dont have to explain my opinion.. because in my eyes, they simply aren't heros.

Them doing what they did is as much selfish as it was selfless.. unlike first responders.

The passengers couldn't just leave the plane after the hijack.. and that's what you can't seem to see. They had to do SOMETHING.

If a home is on fire, sure, FF are expected to go in, but they wont die if they choose not to.

Disagree with me, I dont care.. it's my opinion and that is exactly what Clark asked for.

Yup.. I did.

Go back and read it.

They CHOOSE to go into danger when they dont have to, as opposed to the passengers who were just thrown into it.

The people on flight 93 are called heros because they chose to stop the terrorists from killing more people by flying into another building.

You think the people on that flight did it to save themselves? They were gonna die either way and they knew it. They could've sat back and did nothing, too.

No, I'm not.

I never siad you couldn't be a hero if you were being paid for it.. not ONE single time, thank you very much.

FF choose to go into danger.. they know that there is a chance they will die.

The passenger, true, they knew thye might die, but to say it was a 100% selfless act would be stupid.

"Oh but Linus.. FF get paid, so it's not 100% selfless either!"

Never said it wasn't... simply said they choose to be in a dangerous situation... the passengers didn't.

I sound like a broken record.. repeating the same EXACT point over and over becuase you guys simpl can't accept the fact that, OH NO, someone might have a different opinion on this than you!

I'm out.... tired of wasting my time on something so trvial.

From what I've seen on TV and heard in the recordings, I see nothing that says they did it to save other people.

It WASN'T selfless act! They could've easily sat there in their seats waiting to die...they didn't do it to save themselves, even if they killed the terrorists they wouldn't know how to control the plane. They were only stopping them form killing more people.

Dave, you're supposed to use sarcasm in this situation. What you said only supports his claim.

But really. Linus is trying to say that the passengers were not heros because they had to prevent their own deaths with no other way out instead of getting to choose whether they can risk their lives or not to save OTHER people.

From what it sounds like. It seems he is saying that the FD and PD were heros because they were selfless, and that the passengers were not because they were selfish. And of course, to be a hero, you must think of other people.

How does crashing a plane into an empty field = saving ones life?

If they PD and FD dont run into burning building/ chase after crook they = fired and no paycheck. How does that = selflessness?

They didnt know the building was going to fall down. All they knew was that some mid-upper floors were on fire.

To all those who don't think the people on flight 93 were heros, put yourself in their situation. You try and stop the terrorists becuase you don't want them to kill you, or the other people on the plane. I don't care if they knew the terrorists were going to fly into George bush's Coke dealer's house, they stopped that. They didn't just sit back and let the terrorists follow through with their plans like the other flights did. They took action and possibly saved hundreads of lives. Those people deserve the title of hero.

Unless I completely missread that, heres a deffiniation of selfless for you :

Having, exhibiting, or motivated by no concern for oneself; unselfish

So, yeah, its pretty much the deffinition of selfless. BTW, odd thought of mine on selflessness, you really cant say a lot of hero's were selfless because by giving them fame and recognition that sort of takes away the whole nothing in return part, just a crazy thought.

And according to an article I read on the flight one of the passangers was a pilot and would have been able to fly the plane, but if they got much closer to the capital they would have been shot down.

Unless the passenger was a commercial airline pilot, I highly doubt he/she would have been able to land the plane.

Flying/landing a small winged plane, fighter plane, commercial airliner are much different.

If memory serves me right the individual was able to fly the airliner, I dont know his qualifications but they made a point of saying he would have been fully capible of landing it.

In my opinion the people aboard the flight are heros, I have a great deal of respect for them.  I dont know if I will see the film, I live in an area of such unbeleivable pacifists to the point where they ignore common sense and reason that I expect to see protests or scuffles at the theatres (ironic, yes).

EDIT : Off topic, but as I watch the trial of the lone would-be hijacker I cant help but think we're doing this the wrong way.  Stop televising the trial, stop showing his face or saying his name, give him life in prison in a large but not famous prison under a different alias and treat him as a random prisoner.  All this publicity just gives him what he wants and makes him a martyr (sp?).

Courtesy of IMDB:

"Plot Summary for

World Trade Center ( http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/2006 - 2006 )

In the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, hope is still alive. Refusing to bow down to terrorism, rescuers and family of the victims press forward. Their mission of rescue and recovery is driven by the faith that under each piece of rubble, a co-worker, a friend a family member may be found. This is the true story of John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno, the last two survivors extracted from Ground Zero and the rescuers who never gave up. It's a story of the true heroes of that fateful time in the history of the United States when buildings would fall and heroes would rise, literally from the ashes to inspire the entire human race."

So yeah, there will be a movie about a few of the guys who were stuck in there

Regarding the United 93 passengers, I feel they were heroes. It takes guts to stand up and fight back, regardless of what outcome you expect. Facing terrorists armed with knives and religious fervour is much more dangerous and immediate than accepting that in the next few hours you may die- disbelief is a natural feeling in situations like that. The fact that the passengers roused themselves and fought back is certainly heroic in my eyes.

28 min into it, the narrator says "At 9:25,... the head of the FAA.. initiated a national groundstop, which prevents further take offs and orders all planes in the air to land.   The order, which hasnt been implemented since 1903..."

Hmm lets see.. first flight of a plane was December 17th, 1903 by the Wright brothers. SO that leaves 14 days for the FAA to be created and make that call...but nope...FAA wasnt created till 1958.

Wow.. they did a groundstop by going back in time!!!

I like the loose change video. It's entertaining. The Osama part is great.

So you're saying that this video isn't credible because of this mundane detail that really isn't important to the overall message in any way whatsoever?

I mean, sure they can get a "conspiracy" that has absolutly no leaks and no evidence or paper trail... but can't get a simple thing about planes flying? Hmm....

If they get something so simple wrong.. what else could they have screwed up? (Besides the whole thing of course...)

And yet... and yet... you have yet to come up with any proof to the contrary...

EDIT: Thanks
