i know this is a tippmann site, but i see alot a guys talk about stuff other than so let me ask u guys about kingman guns, im thinkin bout getting a spyder xtra, its for a beginner with a low budget, how well do these guns operate, how much can you customize em? durability, etc?
if you can turn back the hands of time to when you bought your first paintball marker, in your experience, which gun would you buy?

They operate terribly.
Low end spyders suck.
Save your money and get a tippmann. I would have definatly bought a 98C as my first gun

First of all everyone on here except for me is biast against spyders.
Now, I have not had any experience with a spyder xtra but I did have a spyder imagine. Spyders are good guns as long as you take care of them. You have to oil and clean them after every game. They are alot of upgrades for spuders. The only real bad thing about them is that the trigger is hard to change. But other than that they are a good gun.

spyders have great potential, its just out of the box they are kind of delicate. so, if you want a good spyder, be ready to drop some cash into it.

They have xtras on the field I play and I have to say they are pretty good. I mean they shootfine and the cleanind is the easiest thing (not like the 98c).
Most people say spyders suck without even had tryed them, and they will tell you to get 98c. But it depends on what you will do. 98c will be great for woods-ball,
but it sucks is speed-ball. The xtra can be pretty much used for both.

I have both a Spyder Imagine and a Tippmann 98c, and even though they both are backups/loaners now if I had to pick one to use it would be the Spyder hands down.
You can upgrade just about every single part on the it (even though IMO its not worth it to get more then a barrel and then get stuff you can trasnfer to your next marker) And as long as you clean and lube them up after you play they are very reliable, I honestly don't beleive these people saying they had constant problems with their spyders unless they have no idea how to maintain a paintball marker, my spyder imagine is the ONLY marker I have that has never given me a problem, even though my tippmann breaking was my fault for trying some sketchy mods.

I use to work at a large paintball field, and we had about 30 spyders and about 100 98 customs. The only guns we ever had problems with were the spyders. There is a reason the model 98/98 custom are the number one selling marker. There is nothing more reliable. I'm sure some of you have had spyders that worked great but overall the tippmanns are more reliable. Go with a 98.

I do have Spyder experience, considering I still own one. When Kingman got bought out their quality control went down. The older models, back when the most advanced one was the Spyder TL were all reliable and fairly durable.
I dont have a newer Spyder, so my opinion really isnt of any bennefit. Just my personal opinion, I would get an Imagine for a first marker, but not the Xtra.

in several ways they suck. But some people just want a cheap electro, spyder is the way to go for your first gun. I don't raelly like Spyders but for the price, actaully guns like the imagine are pretty nice. They just tend to fall apart at times. Then aggain, some peopel have no problems with their Spyders. Ultimately, I say go with an a-5. That what i would have done.
EDIT: Oh, I didn't realize that Halo suggested an imagine as well. Hehe
Oh and by the way Halo, halo 3 at e3!

if you have a low budget, just save the 20 bux more and get the 98c.
rampage rents 98's and xtras, but nobody ever has anything go wrong with
the 98's. on the other hand, with the xtras, my friend went through 4 guns
in a three hour game.
gun#1: the bolt shot out the back.
#2: the barrel shot itslef off.
#3: the trigger frame came loose mid game and fell off.
#4: he finally got to finish the game with this one.

Superman its not the guns fault your field does not do simple checks and makes sure everything is tight, if the things you said really happend nobody even looks the rentals over. gun#1 make sure the pin and everything is still in place, a noob probebly took a bad dive with it and the pin fell out. gun#2 tighten the freaking barrel and make sure there is still an o-ring on it. gun#3 tighten the trigger frame screws, spyders shoot pretty fast and kick pretty hard, if its being used all day everyday the field is open screws will come loose
If you have trouble keeping a spyder running then that is very bad on your part, it is not hard to wipe the dirt/paint/greese off, put a drop of oil on the moving o-rings, and make sure everything is in place. If you guys expect every gun you get to take the abuse a tippmann does your never going to be able to get anything else.
My personal opinion from owning both is if you are going to be playing in the woods most of the time, go for the tippmann. If your going to be playing speedball more go for an Imagine.

On the Tippmann forum, you will get a lot of Spyders suck, get a Tippmann (go figure). I have never owned a Spyder, but in the years that I've been playing paintball, I have played with Spyders on a few occasions, and played many times with people who owned Spyders. They aren't the worst guns in the world, but they do have reliabilty issues, compared to other guns.

That is a pretty bold statement. At least spell your "college level" word correctly...FYI, that ruins credibility. Second, there are a lot of people on here that own both. Clearly you are not the only one. There are very few things that you can say you are the ONLY (out of what...33000 members...)

Correct. Clearly he doesn't have a clue of what he is talking about. Spyders don't have an o-ring on the barrel.
Spyders are fine. Couple things you have to keep in mind. The front bolt on a tippmann is not very tight to the body. In the event of a chop, the bolt still moves freely. If it doesn't, the gun can still EASILY be taken apart.
Spyder's do have a tendancy to chop more than tippmanns. Spyder bolts are VERY tight to the body. Many times, when a chop occurs, a piece of shell will get stuck between the body and the bolt. This binds the two together, and makes it difficult for TWO grown men to pull apart (one pulling the body, the other pulling the bolt).
Another thing to keep in mind is that mechanical spyders have a VERY long trigger pull. I would say nearly an inch on the bottom end of a double trigger.
Other than that tippmann's and spyders are pretty much the same.
