Hey I was wondering if any body has any experience with a 21" rifled barrel for the tippmann a-5? If you do are they any good if not what type of a barrel should I get other than a flatline?

wow. rifling doesnt help paintballs at all. nore does length.

if you want a good, cheap, reliable barrel, i suggest a lapco bigshot or a j&j ceramic. probably about 14". all you need is about 8" to accelerate the paintball, and a few more inches to guide it, say 4-6". anything past just requires more gas to drive the ball down the barrel, and doesnt help accuracy. so it just wastes air.

id suggest hitting the deck to avoid "anti sniper fireballs"

doesnt the rifling put more spin on the ball and make it shoot farther? and beside I can get this barrel for less or the same as a 14" barrel

Not worth it. 14" is long enough.

I will verbally assault anyone with a 21 inch barrel. Luckilly, no one around here is stupid enough to use them.

Lapco Bigshot ftw.

barrel I can find.

Why stick with somthing that is worse than the stock barrel? Thats dumb. Just put your stock barrel back on.

A 21" Rifled Barrel will not make the marker more accurate.

Rifling has no effect on paintballs, due to their liquid fill. A 21" barrel will actually cause gas waste, and maybe even decreased accuracy due to friction.

But if you want to waste your moeny, go ahead.

Its physics.

The ball accelerates down the barrel for the fisrt 8 inches or so. After that, the friction in the barrel slows the ball down. Therefore extra gas is needed to keep the ball moving down the barrel at field speeds. This is why when you change from a 8" to a 14" barrel of the same brand, the marker may need chronoed again.

friend of mine has a 21 inch barrel. it doesnt waste gas. or lose accuracy. it is a little more accurate then the 16". but thats about it. other then it makes yr gun look awkward. 21" barrels take speed off the paintball. thats just about the only negative side to them. go with a 16 " if you want a longer barrel they're a little more accurate then the 14's but on the other hand 14" barrels are optimum for everything ( speed/accuracy ). smatr parts, lapko, J&J all make great barrels. do your research

have your friend chrono the gun right now, and then put the stock barrel back on, and re-chrono. chances are the velocity will be higher, which means that he's using more gas than he would with a smaller barrel....

that much more gas per shot should not make that much of a difference between a PERFORMANCE barrel not a stock barrel. i use a 16" barrel i bet there is only a few foot difference its not even that big of a deal

A little bit can add up. Also how can a 21" rifled barrel be more accurate than a 12" barrel in paintball? Did you make up new laws of physics to govern your 21" barrel? Next your going to say that 21 inch makes your marker accurate up to a mile away.

looks like im going to devolope a mile long barrel? negative.

All im saying is its not that big of a deal unless you are completely anal and only have one tank of gas

Its a big deal when you don't want to waste your money on a barrel that does nothing for the marker. If a compact 8" barrel does the same thing as a 21" barrel, why would you want to have two feet of barrel hanging off your gun.

Plus, I had a 14'' barrel with a silencer that made it 18''. Whenever I pointed my gun down it hit the ground. Imagine what a 21'' barrel will do.

each marker is different. with added barrel length you will reach a point if diminishing returns. wouldent reccomen anything over 16 inch unless you are able to do the fine adjustments necessary to reach a desired effect

For the love of God. Nooooo! Those barrels are a POS. Your better off with a stock barrel. First off, it will not help. Second, when your at the field all the cooll guys will point and laugh and we all don't want that.  So, your asking yourself ''Why are these people laughing at me'' As you run off and cry. It's because they know you just wasted your money and look like a complete noob. Anything over 14'' is pointless. Do you want to know why it's cheaper than all the other barrels? It's because you get what you pay for. You pay $20 for a barrel chances are it's going to suck. Do yourself a favor and get a Lapco Big Shot or some J&J barrel.

And someone please explain to me how a longer barrel makes it more accurate... This is ground break news!!! We must inform the press at once.

It's a common misconception that rifiling and a longer barrel will increase range and accuracy in paintball guns. Why? Because everyone is thinking of real guns. In a Real gun rifling puts a spin on the bullet allowing it to travel more accurately. This doesn't work with a paintballs because they are not solid. The liquid inside the round just creates friction as the outside shell rotates which ends up reducing your accuracy. As for barrel length, yes, in REAL guns, barrel length greatly improves accuracy over long distances but even then too long of barrel has deminishing returns. For a real gun you would use a barrel length appropriate to the caliber of the round and the amount of powder to be used. In a paintball gun, we are all shooting at or around 300 fps and at the same caliber, so there is a point when you just can't crank your gun up high enough to maintain speed and use a longer barrel. In the end all it does it hurt you while not delivering any better performance and sometimes actually getting worse due to velocity loss. I know the 21" is cheap, but by buying it you are going to hurt yourself. For a paintball gun, like everyone before me has mentioned, this point of deminishing returns occurs from 14"-16" after that it really is all down hill. Maybe it's worth the extra 10 bucks to get a J&J or a Lapco BigShot?
