Once it bruises, it'll be there 3-6 days. I've had them go away by the next day and others last for 5 days. Just depends.

When i first started paintball the local paintball guy behind the counter suggested buying a neck pad.

Not only are those things expensive (10 bucks for a peice of badding with velcro), but they DO NOT WORK.  Massive bruising even using it... feel as though i should have went without.

We were playing yesterday and a new player was standing right underneath a window from a upstairs of a barn, my gun was leaking so I was in the staging area attempting to fix it, when I look up and watch another new player stick her gun out the window shot directly down and nailed the guy right on spine of his neck...ouch!. Broke skin and huge bruise .

ive been hit in the neck with a neoprene guard and the guard doesnt stop the impact, it just saves you from the slap of the ball on your neck.  you can go to a dollar store or wallyworld and get a bandanna to tie around your neck and it works just as well.  roll it once or twice to get a few layers of cloth and tie it in the front, since your mask covers your neck most of the time.  it saves some of the impact if you get hit from the side.  if you get hit in the front its not fun either, but thats probably a less likely hit.

and PS i definately recommend a cup.

Yeah during my second game to play we were on the assualt team taking this hillside. Well, during our attack I took a couple in the kneck, but I had my vest collar popped all ghetto style lol! So, it didn't hurt. I would say either buy a kneck protector or a thick collar popped on a jacket or something. Or don't get hit there!
