You'd go blind without protection. When they were doing the starting tests, they lined up soldiers, got them to turn their backs, and dropped a nuke. After the explosion, they made the soldiers turn around, and march to see how close they could get to the origin. I really doubt any of that footage was classified, if it was, it's been declassified for YEARS. Theres books with more information/ photos than any of those clips show. We went over tons of them in my history class in grade 12. Compared to what we have now, Hiroshima was miniscule. *edit* Heck, Lamar used the first house getting blown away in an ad campaign years ago. |

The crappy bit is that you wouldn't. I'd heard that many scientists were afraid to test the 1st hydrogen bomb. That the fusion would start a chain reaction that wouldnt stop until the earth was essentially a star. Since hydrogen is so very abundant, it wouldnt take long. Can you imagine the stones, insanity, arrogance and powerlust it took to come to the decision to blow it up. I can see the meeting now. Yea, well, I guess youd have that going for you. Rather than doing right for the sake of doing right they would be rationalizing their actions based on nobody knowing, and they wouldnt get caught because they killed everyone and everything. The US had more nuclear weapons then Russia ever had. The US won the arms race by a long shot, our government didn't realize this at the time though. And yes we did do a bunch of testing on small islands in the pacific. The most famous being the Bikini Atol tests. |
