Subject: Things I will not miss.

So last night I worked my last shift at McDonalds.
Things I will not miss about working in fast food.
1) The screamers. Apparently It is hard to comprihend that our drivethru speakers work remarkably well, and screaming into them in broken fragments slows us down, not speeds us up. Ex. “GIVE…..ME…..TWO…..NUMBER….ONES…WITH”
“Sir, sir please don’t yell, we can hear you just fine”
“OK…..GIVE……ME…….TWO…”
Here is a tip. Talk normal into the speaker, we can hear you just fine.
2) The insults. People assume that if you work in fast food you must be idiots. Many times I was told by customers “Yeah, that’s why you work in fast food!” They didn’t quite get the fact I was going to college, and had a 4.0 in highschool. They got taint-burgers.
3) The bringer-backers. Shut the hell up. I don’t care if you got pickles when you asked for no pickles. You have fingers. You can pick them off. You are paying less than $5 for your meal, you just voided your right to complain. We are getting paid crap, so we void our right to care about you or your food.
4) The special orders. “Give me a quarter pounder no ketchup extra mustard with light onions and pickles add extra lettuce and can I only have one slice of cheese on that?”
No. No you cannot. Order it normal like everyone else. You are not special, you are not cool. If you want anything different, go to Burger King asshole.
5) The people who don’t know menus. Everytime somebody came through asking for a classic double with onion rings and a large Pepsi, I wanted to kick them in the face. It is not hard to know the menu items for the place you are at. 6) The splitters. The people that cannot understand that if you are in a car with people, and you all order, you pass the money to the driver, who then distributes change. I got to the point one night where I quit letting people make separate orders in drivethrough. People who come through with 4 friends in the car, wanting 4 separate orders, well they had to think on their toes with the change for a chance.
There may be more to come as I get to them

What about the people that get pissed when you ask them if they want to make it a combo or whatever. My brother said people would scream and yell when he asked them that.

We never really asked if they wanted a combo. If they ordered a sandwich, drink, and fries, I would ask if they wanted me to ring that up as a combo to save them .45 cents. Other than that, I found it best not to meddle in other peoples affairs.

It kind of IS your job to make special orders if asked to if you work in food services... Believe me, I know it's a pain in the butt. I've worked at a small restaurant for 2.5+ years, and special orders suck, but you have to do it.
The customer comes first. You're getting paid to satisfy them.
Nothing pisses me off more than "I want light batter on my fish & chips," or "I want half of my pizza with no cheese." There's no way to do 'light batter' and the cheese will flow across the pizza if there's none on one side.
Out of curiosity, where's your new job at TKD?

I don't mind special orders at Taco Bell because we make all the food as it's ordered anyways so its actually easier to leave the extra stuff off and such. I hate the idiot customers that **edited** me out because we made their food wrong when somebody at the front rang it up wrong or something. Yeah, like that's my effing fault.
Oh! And the stupid ass lady that came in last friday and ordered 27 freaking items when we were already busy as hell and then had to get the manager to complain about EVERYTHING. "Uhhh these tacos aren't wrapped right". My ass they aren't, i'm the one that works here I think I would know. "There's not enough cheese" Blah blah I hate some customers.

Heh. I have told people they are not allowed to special order. They get angry and usually storm out of the resturant.
I don't really care. I have done it for two years, and never got fired or wrote up.

I feel your pain. But my last night I got even. I filled the sourcream shooters with water and had a nice squirtgun fight. Then I was working drivethru. My family came in the lobby so I sat out there and talked to them for awhile... 4 cars in the drivethru. Then to just piss them off, I would tell them to pull up to the second window... We only had one window. OOh that guy was hella pissed.

i'm nice to the people at the mcdonalds down the street from me... i never special order anything.... but i have a friend who takes his food back if it's not "special"... i don't get it... you pay a dollar for a double cheese burger with condiments and you're still not happy.... i mean, if you don't like something, get a fork or a knife and just scrape it off... it still tastes the same...

I personally don't work in fast food but a friend of mine says that he actually get's people, at the Hardees he works at, that will COUNT the number of fries they get in an order and if they don't get that same number next time they come and complain to him! Holy crap, if that was me getting yelled at I would punch that idiot in the nuts so hard that he could never have children as stupid as him. And the 90% ice thing sucks too.

He is quitting...
But yeah I definately understand where you are comming from, but at the same time you DID apply for a crummy job and they pay you to serve people, not fill space.
I managed a local ColdStone while I was in high school and I could not stand some of the crap that people pulled. I had one hippy lady come in and request that her ice cream never even TOUCH the styrofoam cups. She was telling this to a new employee and he just looked at me like 'What do I do?' I told her that it's doable, but she WILL have to pay the extra money for the waffle cone that it will have to go in, otherwise she wont get the ice cream. To be honest, I could have had him put her order in a to-go dish that is made of plastic, but she was pretty mean so I wanted to milk her money *a whopping 75 cents of it*. Anywhom, I tell the employee to put plastic gloves on so that he could grab the waffle product which would normally be placed in a styrofoam cup, and to just hand it to her that way so as to avoid any bare hand contact with ready to eat food. Everything was cool and she paid while the rest of the orders were being filled for her group, so another seasoned employee comes out to help the new guy go faster. He didnt hear a single word that was exchanged between the three of us so he just mixes up her order for her and then plops it right in to a styrofoam dish. The lady FLIPPED and started saying that her ColdStone experience was ruined and she went back to the tip jar and took her tip out. We offered to refund the order so she would at least gotten a free icecream but she refused and said to just hurry up and finish the rest so that she can leave. I hated her so much.

I work in a supermarket bakery where we decorate cakes.
Someone ordered a cake and brought it home. Next day we get a phone call.
"Ummm, we ordered a cake that was supposed to be gold, but we got chocolate"
"Ok, bring it back and we can make a new one for you or give you a refund"
Next day the lady shows up with a half a cake trying to get her money back.

I'm currently working at Boston Market which is sortof fastfood because we have a drive thru window, I experience the same troubles.
The great part about working at a restaurant that serves chicken and cornbread and all the fixin's, is that it attracts lots of old people and gangster drug dealers.
Old people like to pull into the drive thru backwards (our parking lot is sort of wierd) and we have to help them get backed out properly when a whole mess of cars are waiting at the drive thru properly. Either that or they don't understand the menu at all.
The gangsters just do not understand that their systems are too loud and it screws up everyone in the dining room and the drivethru, even the cooks and the dishwashers in the back get confused when all they hear is bass. They usually pull up with a wad of cash of some sort and give me big bills, only because he's too messed up to count money.
There are thousands of things that confuse me at this job.

I'm with ILP on this one. You get paid to do a job, and apparently you
did it rather poorly. Don't expect to change any opinions with this
"But I made minimum wage, blah blah blah" crap- I worked the same deal
in the hardware department at a store for four months this spring, and it didn't entitle me to act like a jackass. Try a bit of maturity in how you deal with other people- it's for your won good in the end when karma rears its potentially ugly head.

I always treat food service people with respect, particularly beause of idiots like this. I save any **edited**ing, complaining, and discourtesy until after I've got my food, and even then only if it's deserved.

We went through Jack in the Box drive through backwards once. Like trunk first. Passenger orders the food and grabs it. It was pretty amusing for the workers.

I, too, work in a restaurant. But I work in the kitchen, so thankfully, I don't have to put up with retarded customers.

Yeah seriously TKD, you really are way in the wrong here. I don't know why you think you deserve to decide how people get treated based on the ammount they spend on food. Quite honestly I think that if you ever get caught disrespecting a customer that you are getting paid to serve, they have every right to beat you or shoot you. Perhaps both. No matter how high and mighty you may feel as a clerk of any kind, the customer owns YOU in the end. They don't pay you to be a jerk off, they pay you to meet certain standards of service dictated in your employee hand book given at any job. Nowhere in that will it state that you have the right to serve 'floor' burgers or to annoy customers. You just smile sweetly and do what it is you are told to do, not what you want to do.

I'm talking like a 30 person cake.
Tell me that's not worse than anything you have seen.

half sheet?
I have the same job currently.

Yes, half sheet. Not many people know the size of that though. |
Heh, I worked in the deli which is attached to the bakery(currently dating the bakery girl as well). And I was thinking right when I read that "half sheet". good times.

TKD your an ass. You accepted the lowly job and the minimum wage. Your job was to serve the costumer. Its not up to you how much they pay for a burger, and in the end, you are getting paid to do you job-even if it is 7 dollars an hour. You accepted the responsibility, and it is your fault, no one else's you had to put up with picky costomers. Its the frigg'n food industry, what the hell did you expect? For an A student, you sound like a total dumb-ass.
