I love this gun.  I have the 21 inch barrel and it is pretty accurate.  I want to start getting all the possible upgrades i can, and the only one i can't seem to find is an electronic trigger.  Does anyone know if tippman makes one, or any other company?

YOu can get an E-Grip if you have a newer version of the 98.... If not look for an E-Bolt on EBAY....

i looked on ebay but they all say that they only work on the custom pro...i thought i saw one but i didn't know if it was just a rip off or not...

If you want a sure-fire electronic system, buy an E-bolt. Ebay is your only place to find this, usually.

If your 98c is newer, you can use an Egrip in it. If it is older, your only option is the Ebolt. Check the Nation and Ebay for them.

Is the board for the a-5 and the 98 C the same?

I want an APE for both my a-5 and 98c

i checked my serial number, and it is like 170,000.  I'm pretty sure that is too old.  What is wrong with a 21 inch barrel?  I played the other day and it worked great.

I just looked up an ebolt...13 shots per second.  Not exactly what i was looking for but i guess it is all there is.  Is there any way to make is shoot faster?  I play with a couple of guys who are shooting 30 balls a second.  It would be nice to keep up with them....and is there a more accurate barrel than a 21 inch stone cold II?

I highly doubt your playing iwth guys that shoot 30bps. Its pretty much impossible to do without some sort of ramping or bounce.

21" barrels are pointless. Its not the length of the barrel that matters, its the quality of it and the paint to bore match. Longer barrels arent more accurate and dont have more range than their shorter counterparts. Thats right, your 21" barrls shoots as far as an 8" barrel. I wouldnt go with anything over 14"

yes, long barrels are not more accurate than say a 12 inch. all it does is increase friction, requiring more gas or power from the gas to drive the ball down the barrel. this wastes gas. if you want a great, low price accurate barrel, get the lapco bigshot or the j&j ceramic. of course, the best way to get accuracy is to match the paint with the barrel.

to make an e-bolt shoot faster, you can put a matrix board in there. also, get the 98 center feeded. however, 13 bps should be plenty. if your friends are shooting anything over 18, than they have some sort of "cheater mode" on, such as ramping and high bounce.

my buddies are just a bunch of country boys who play on the weekend...they think that faster is better...i really care more about accuracy, but i like the idea of having that automatic setting...just in case.

Unless you have a regulated and/or lp system...it does not waste gas.  It may require a minimally more amount...but the same amount of gas comes out nevertheless.  The only thing that changes when you change the "velocity" is the blocking of air with the set screw.  You are not wasting gas, b/c the same amount of air comes out anyway.

The great thing abou thte E-grip/E-bolt is not the automatic mode. Its the semi. E-grips/bolts make the trigger VERY easy to walk. I think I remember nick saying the E-bolt was uncapped in semi. If so, you could shoot faster in semi than full auto.

just with the 98. it has a "turbulance" style velocity adjuster, the more velocity, the less turbulance. many guns have a tension velocity adjusting system, where a spring drives the hammer into the valve, releasing the air. the more pressure applied to the hammer, the more air it releases, the more the velocity.

so, in a gun like this, the efficiency will go down. but anyway, anything over 14 inches is pointless to me.

Yes that is true.  14" is the perfect barrel size.  Could "snipe" with it as well as play front.

what about that flatline barrel?  Is it any good?

Posted By: FA22RaptorF22
Date Posted: 30 June 2006 at 9:39pm
Yes.  Very accurate.  But be warned it is very picky with paint.  Just likes small bore.  I reccommend an ultralite 2pc. 14"  or a cp 14"

we just got in a big debate about the flatline. anyway, the flatline is a good barrel, albeit expensive. it really is picky about paint, and tuning, so i really dont think it is worth the effort or the 100 bucks, just for a little range.

With the flatline, the better paint you use, the better it performs.

My friends have no problems shooting teh cheapest paint they can find, its just not all that accurate.

i would just hate to buy the flatline and have it be no better than my 21 inch barrel..if it is true that it is no better than the original...i hope not.  I bought the gun off ebay for 96 bucks and got the barrel with it...

It will have better range than the original.

The flatline/apex are the only barrels that add range.

i suggest getting a 40 dollar lapco bigshot, or a 30 dollar j&j ceramic. both perform beautifully with most paint.

i personally have the j&j, and love it.

I have experience with both, and they are both really accurate. The bigshot is slightly moreso than the J&J, but thats up to you whether its worth $10 more.

i heard cp's are good, but j&j's are self cleaning! if you break a ball in the barrel, just shoot some more and all the junk flies out, for the most part. also, while they may not be as accurate, they are quieter than the bigshots.

No experience with them, so I can't suggest them.

Eh, you still gotta squeegie em to get all the crap out, so self cleaning doesnt matter to me.

Without a silencer they'll hear you shoot, so might as well make em jump when it shoots

so...from what ive learned so far is that since my gun is so old i can only get an E-bolt, and my 21 inch barrel is no better than a 12 inch.  In fact once i buy a lpk or x chamber the barrel will decrease the effiencey of my gun?  Is that right?

Posted By: You Wont See Me
Date Posted: 30 June 2006 at 9:52pm
It wont decrease efficiency on a tippmann unless you have either a rear velocity adjuster or a regulator.

The inches of the barrel arent whats important, its the quality. Dont buy a "14" barrel", get a 14" J&J ceramic/bigshot/CP/whatever. Point im trying to make is its the quality that matters.

it can be kind of a handful out in the woods, but it seems to have more accuracy than the original.  Plus the gun and the barrel only ran me 96 bucks....

i gurantee you, almost any barrel is better than the original on a 98. not alot of effort was put into those old barrels...
