It all depends on the velocity of the gun, distance, and type of paintball. If you get anything, you'll have a welt about the size of a paintball which will last a day or so.

at that distance, with a shirt, maybe a redish-purple bruise.
any closer, you may get a little purple and blue welt.
it should sting for a second or 2, but in most instances, you get over that. of course, all this depends on if your gun is set at field velocities, like 280 fps.

Different people just take the hit worse than others. One guy I know would get a welt the size of a baseball for a paintball hit.

heh.
my first time, i just wore jeans, sliding shorts, a t-shirt, and a jacket... depending on wear you live, you might want to replace the jacket with a longsleeve shirt. the sliding pants can go if you feel brave... getting hit in the nuts doesn't hurt that bad...

umm, i got hit there from like 6 feet away (bunkered) and i sat out for a few games.. it must have like clipped ur nats, cuz i felt like my bawl cracked open..
Also about the welt thing, ive noticed that some of my friends that are a little *Heavy* (fat) w/e seem to get really small welts.. im guessin the blubber like rebounds the hits.

Well.... If you play woods ball (in the woods) use camo clothes. A camo jacket, BDU's, cammo bandana/hat. Dont use new clothes because you will get dirty and colorful. You rarley get hit in the coin purse so I wouldn't wear a jock but, Your choice. If you dont want to spend 50 dollars on camis than jeans and an old sweater will work to. Hope I was help.
EDIT-I'll post some pics of my camis...I'm bored and need somthing to do.

Actually, from my experience, large padded people tend to get bigger welts that bleed.

Thats high speed imaging...well atleast from a crappy high speed camera. My Dad teaches a course at MIT every year on high speed imaging and machine vision and I always help run the labs. One year during one of the labs we filmed a paintball hitting the lense of a JT Flex 7 mask and you can see the lense bow inward. I'll try to find the video and post it, it really reinforces the importance of a good safe mask. We also do a lot of military testing, I got some awesome video of from the military testing we do. Here are some still pics from the MIT course labs: http://web.mit.edu/Edgerton/6.51s/2003/ - 2003 pics , http://web.mit.edu/Edgerton/6.51s/2004/ - 2004 pics , http://web.mit.edu/Edgerton/6.51s/2005/ - 2005 pics . The 2006 pics should be up soon. In the 2003 pics I wrote my name (Greg Thomas) on one of the cards being shot. I think there might even be some Schlieren photography pictures on one of those pages.

basically. High speed cameras film at a much higher frame rate then your standard video camera. High speed cameras film from anywhere as low as around 100 frames per second and anywhere as high as 100,000,000 frames per second. When you film something with a normal video camera and then play it back in slow motion you end up with a choppy and poor picture. High speed allows you to capture an event that happens too quickly for normal video cameras to capture. Then allows you to play that event back and instead of seeing a choppy video, you see a nice smooth and clear video of an event that happened literally in the blink of an eye.

i don't wear either a neck protector or a cup for the same reasons. i've had several close calls (i've been hit countless times on the upper thighs, mere inches away), but until i get hit bad enough that i can't take it, i'll be fine in a light camo jacket and green pants.

I've got a scar (kind of purplish) on the right side of my stomach because of a really close hit. The guy was right on me when my gun broke. He snuck around behind my guys and I backed out because my gun wasn't working (stupid spyders ) and he didn't see me and visa versa until we were really close. I bled like crazy, but the chicks loved it.

were u play is also a way to decide what "armor" you should wear.Front players need to have protection but not to much to interfere with running and sliding.if your a back player that tries to shoot long range you dont need nothin but a tee shirt. It really depends on how much of a man you are. &n bsp; One of my friends wears 2 jakets when he plays and he just sits in the back and waists paint shootin with his eyes closed.

i wear a really thin knock off jerzey and a long sleeve shirt, or short sleeve, depending on what the weather is,
Then i wear reversable shorts(thicker) and camo pants, which are pretty thin
and if its colder out, i might wear high socks, from baseball

I would advise a nice pair of gloves(paintball ones)and something to cover the top of ur head(ie hat, skull cap, etc) .For the woods like someone else said a set of BDU's but its all on ur preferance.... Like with me i will wear my Speedball jersey into the woods some times because it is a bright color and people kind of focus on me. While other times i break out the camo. If u play speed ball i would say buy a jersey some have a lil extra pading on them but get it a size too big and wear a tshirt under them. Also a Pair of sliding shorts and like a pair of loose pants. Nothing that is gonna restrict your movement. BTW i wear a cup first time i ever got shot was right to the marble sack........ u just have to get used to wearing them i dont too much anymore because i am normally behind a nice lil inflated bunker.....
Well thats all for now if i think of anyhting else i will add later

Shot in the finger from four feet away. Lasted 2 weeks. I wear a long
sleeved sweater, jeans, and gloves usually and can't forget the cup. I got hit
there three months ago and don't ever want to again.
Edit- If you don't want to hurt at all wear a life jacket. I have seen many
people wear them at the field.
