I just ordered an Apex Barrel and i was wondering if anyone has any tips on using/cleaning the apex barrel.

I heard that the rubber flaps are fragile and can be torn by some squeegees

Yeah dont use a Squeegee with the Apex. You'll need to use a barrel swab because the rubber piece in the front can break easily.

Interesting info if it is true. The barrel plug that comes with the Apex fits tightly and ought to be a problem if the ramp is fragile. I use the mop/swab type just because virtually the  only place that gets broken paint is the rubber ramp. The squeegee style barrel cleaners don't rub against the ramp well enough to clean it. I have even cleaned it with my t-shirt wrapped around the tip of my finger. Hadn't thought it fragile!

The barrel plug for the Apex is a new patented style that was written up in Action Pursuit Games magazine about a year ago. It cannot be shot out of the barrel.

You can tell the crowd when they choose to use the phrase barrel "condom," and snicker, rather than sock or cover. The end of the Apex barrel is oversize so if you have to use a sock, if the field doesn't allow plugs, it is a special large one...and not usually available at many stores or fields. The Flatline barrel (98c)takes a standard sock. A sock designed for the Flatline installed on the A-5 is large and will likely work on the Apex.

My field has that same no barrel plug rule.  This guy I played with who has a flatline took two normal barrel covers and sewed them together.  You'd have to use some pretty heavy thread and a lot of stiching, but if you can find another one, its an option.
