Subject: RT Working Properly?
Date Posted: 05 July 2006 at 8:59am

just got my gun back a few days ago from my local PB shop, I got them to install an RT for me. I tried it out in the backyard, it appears to be working, but I can't get it to keep firing for more then like 5secs or less. I have to release the trigger and slowly pull it again till it starts auto'ing again...

is this suppose to happen? or is something messed?

You're supposed to sweet-spot it.  Also, adjusting it might do some good.

as in the valve? adjusting how fast it shoots?

There is a little screw you need to play with to get it perfect.

ya i know which one you were talking about, I tried playing with it, never broke a ball with my electric hopper so thats good, but it was hard to keep it going

im guessing cause its the little bit of kickback the gun has, hard to keep your finger in the right spot

It takes a bit of practice and tweaking to get max effect from the RT.  You are actually doing pretty good with 5 second bursts right away.

But, as indicated, adjust the little screw on the right receiver (where the RT hose into the gun above the rear grip) until you find what works for you.

You could/should also look into various other easy mods, such as removing/lightening the trigger spring, the straw mod, and the super RT mod.  Each of these will also make it easier to sweetspot.

In addition, if you are shooting with CO2, it will always be hard to sustain long strings, since the gun will tend to freeze.  Using nitro will make it harder to sweetspot, but easier to maintain once you hit the spot due to lack of freeze.

how long would it take the gun to freeze using co2? (which is what I'm using)

depends on how fast  you are shooting.  it can freeze realy fast at a high rof.

The straw mod is where you put a small piece of a capri-sun straw on the
pin that the sear rests on. It makes the pull lighter. I don't recomend this
with a r/t because you will get the paint blender mod. (uncontrollable firing)

On the contrary - the straw mod is the greatest thing for the RT since sliced bread.  It makes sweetspotting drastically easier.  Most powerful upgrade for RT other than the super RT mod, and since the straw mod is about ten times easier, it is pretty good bang for the buck.

well tried out the RT for the first time in game

and wow what a damn disaster, nothing but problems. It was the first time I had ever broken a ball in the gun before. Now I have to take apart the gun and try and clean it

and it was so erratic, tried to shot a single ball (pull and release) and it would fire 2 balls.

i dunno hopefully its just the setting of the valve, but I did try and play with that too

Your RT is messed up. I was breaking ball and had the same problem and tried everything to fix it. I wind up replace all my internals and many other parts and nothing worked. I sent the RT back to Tippmann and they replaced some things and now it shots fine. Send it off to Tippmann

your sear spring may be too weak, unless you don't pull the trigger hard enough to fire semi.

You need to get used to the r/t, you first few times you'll b too full of adrenaline or too excited to pull it right in a spur of the moment firefight.

i was dry firing the gun, and I turned the valve alllll the way down, so it shouldnt auto at all.

I would pull the trigger trying to just "shot" one at a time, and for a split second the gun would go off like it just ran out of CO2, it did it a ffew times actually when i was trying it

do you have an a-5 or 98? i assume 98 because your talking about a electric hopper. i was having problems when i first istalled mine and then the guy at the pro-shop replaed the flow resistor screw's o-rings with bigger ones and now it works better then some e-grips.

Canadians do it on top.

If you turn you valve all the way down it should be really hard to pull the trigger. I was working on my friends RT and it did the same thing. When I turn it all the way down I was shooting 17+ bps (tested it in front of a chronograph) and chop balls like crazy. After I got it back from Tippmann, when it was turned all the way down, I could barely pull the trigger. I had to open it up 2 wholes turns to get 7 bps or so. Quit stressing yourself and trying to figure out how to fix it. Just send it back to Tippmann and use the stock grip for a while. It cant hurt.

If you havent done anything that would void the warrenty they should.
The other thing is that if you modded your sear spring or trigger spring it may be too weak to catch the rear bolt, or could be that the recoil is enough to re- engage the shooting cycle. Another possibility is that your sear or rear-bolt groove has worn and isnt catching first go. Take it apart and have a look.

You mentioned that it sounded like it was running out of co2. Did it recock itself? Check the oring on the rear bolt.

Yes, Tippmann will fix everything. If they cant they will send you a new one. Tippmann have excellent customer service and they don't charge for their services. Or if you want to, send them your whole gun. That would cost you more on shipping though.

ya I guess I will bring it back to the place I got it installed and ask them if its worth sending it back.

I did recock itself, like it would make that running out of Co2 sound for a split second, then stop (it would be recocked) at this point

when the valve is turned up higher and I try to just pull and release the trigger, sometimes it would shot 2/3 times

I have a stock installed, would that cause any problems?

Why wouldn't it be worth sending back? It would only cost you $5 and it should fixed your problem.

Your stock shouldn't be creating any problems. If you think it is just take it off and try shooting it a few times without it.

You would have gotten it back by now. Tippmann service department works fast. Usually a week for everything, that includes shipping to them, them fixing it and them shipping it back to you.

Tippmann will, the store might or might not. Having a Tippmann is almost like having lifetime warranty. Anytime you have a problem just call them and they will do their best to help you.
