Looking into buying a new Tippmann. I have an old 98 custom. I am planning on buying a nwe Custom Pro E. First upgrades will be an APE rampage board, low pressure kit, regulator, and nitro. Does the Custom Pro E use a specific power tube to run the E-trigger? Because I know the LPK comes with a power tube and I don't know which power tube I should use. As for regulators, I assuming that they all use the same threads. So I could buy any brand reg, and they would all screw into the vertical adapter. Right? All ready have a J&J to slap on the front of it. Other upgrades will include a front bolt, loader, and maybe some sort of centerfeed(maybe something custom.) Let me know what you think as well as any suggestiongs. Thanks.

I don't see why the E-trigger would have it's own powertube. The RT does. Unless you find some off-the-wall goofy reg, they all have he same threading. |

Oh yea, I was confused. The RT has one because it uses the excess air to reset the trigger. The E-trigger is electronic so it doesn't use the same feature. (Semi newb question) Does the LPK powertube neccesary for the operation of the LPK, because I also had my eye on Pro-Seal and Rufus Dawg products. As I was scanning tippmannparts.com I noticed that you can buy the APE rampage board as well as the armature pin. Wouldn't that mean you could make your own egrip for $75.00 instead of $100? I like 98's and I like the idea of a fast 98. Plus they are relatively cheap and fairly rugged. Speedball 98 would be a good title for what I am going for. Tippmanns are so unassuming, it would be great to have one that would drop some jaws.

220 for the gun. 100 for the board. 100 for the lpk. 50 for the reg. Say 500 all together. That is a pretty amazing speedball setup if you ask me. Sure, 500 bucks could buy a Black Magic Cocker, but it seems to me like everyone and their uncle has a Cocker. No offense to any Auto Cocker owners out there. Like I said, the idea of a 98 like this just seems cool. Something not everyone has. Plus I'm making this gun. I am not buying a prebuilt package.

Speed ball 98C? Here you go! 1) E-Bolt, using Palmer Rock for ram air With this barrel and Nelson Hemorrhage paint, tweaked dwell and ram pressure, this marker is operating at 140 psi with velocity chronographed at 275 fps. Quiet and fast. My best finger speed gets me 13-14 bps. Near future additions are to be a new paint feed system similar to the Q-Loader, but with higher capacity pods, feeding from the bottom through the front handle. No hopper sitting on top. Also mods to the electronics to raise ram cycle rate to 17 bps.

I am assuming that is the setup you are running, and I don't doubt you know what you are doing. However, I kind of want to get a new marker and start fresh. Plus I like the E-trigger configuration and it's getting increasingly hard to find and E-bolt. Does anyone know the parts list for the E-trigger upgrade for the Custom Pro. Because if I can buy a mech Custom Pro and just drop in the APE Rampage board along with an armature pin then that seems like a better idea than spending more money on the Custom Pro E and then a Rampage board. Bruce, how do you look at your gauge during gameplay? Or do you even bother with it? Ingenuitive setup you are running there. The gauge I watch during play is the tank pressure gauge. I use the gauge on the Volumizer to verify the settings of the Palmer Stabilizer...which lets me know the health of my system. I have had a failure of the HPA tank regulator which grossly over pressurized the LP Stabilizer. The marker started shooting oddly making strange noises. The Volumizer gauge verified that my marker pressures were over 400 psi and slowly climbing. That gauge also lets me know how efficient my ball to barrel fit is...for example, my Hammerhead does a perfect job at that 140 psi setting. My Apex, with the ramp adjustment at about the mid way point requires almost 240 psi to maintain 275 fps with the same paint. That gauge is not a requirement, but it lets me track changes in settings and reassures me that the electronics and regulators are working correctly. During play, I check it between games to assure myself that I'll probably still pass an on-field chrono check. The Palmer Rock, that provides the LP gas to the ram, is attached to the left side of the ASA and feeds into the grip through the blue micro-hose. The Palmer "Sideline" Stabilizer is attached to the right side of the ASA and feeds the Volumizer through the Macroline. -------------

| My one suggestion to you karll is don't replace the stock W.A.S. board with the ape, you will have extra cash for something else. The W.A.S. board is a very good board and should anything go wrong with it , is backed by a very generous Tippmann warranty. |

I've fooled around with e-grip conversions on a 98 and they are OK. If I were doing it, i'd get the APE kit. They make the Super Selonoid, the Board, and trigger I believe, and that should be all you need.

I am almost positive you can make your own Custom Pro E if you just buy the Ramapage board and armature pin. Can it support eyes though? I reckon I will just buy a good enough hopper than can keep up and not worry about it. Thank you for all of the advice, and keep posting if you choose.

one last question, ACT or no ACT? I wasn't planning on getting an ACT custom pro because I figured it was just more moving parts to eff up. I figured I could get a fast enough hopper and hope that it keeps up with the Rampage board. A friend of mine said go with the ACT. I am torn.

You don't need a specific trigger. the spring clip on the back of the stock trigger or almost any aftermarket trigger will work... The ape trigger is specially designed for maximum performance with their equipment and features adjustability and magnetic return. I'd go the ACT route, it's the next advancement it tippmann technology. basically the drive arm has the ability to disengage from the front bolt if there is something blocking the bolt from making a clean fire, it is then pulled back onto the bolt as the blowback pulls the hammer back into the recocked position. |
