So, I just found out the class I was going to take this summer in order to save my scholarship wont accomplish that goal, so I'm not taking it. Anyway, now I've got an extra $524(and maybe a bit more) to play with. I need a new desktop so, there we go....Any suggestions?
ps I've been seriously considering a Dell, but there are a lot of Dell haters on here, so if you're one feel free to give your reasoning and offer other options....

i have a dell... i'm fine with it... although you're gonna be pushing it to get a good system with how much you have. of course it all depends what you need and what deals they're running right now.

There are pretty good build-your-own computer kits for about that price if I
remember right.

http://www.fifthedimension.net/Merchant5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=fifthedimension&Product_Code=BBasic&Category_Code=S5 - Here's a good and cheap system, they mostly cater to businesses and you'll have to "aquire" a copy of windows if that's what you want but hey, not a bad deal still.

Nice man, thanks a lot. Only bad thing is the lack of a monitor, so I'll probably just end up finding a nice package deal on ebay....found out I have to wait a couple of weeks to get my money back anyway though, so I guess I've got time to shop around...

Ryan, what hardware are you running on now? May be feasible to upgrade most of what you have to something better...

Yup, he actually said that.

There is nothing wrong with Dells. I don't own one, but for the average user, they do their job fine, and if you find them when they're running specials, you can get em for a steal.

My main comp is a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 8100(laptop). My old desktop is a compaq presario that has a pretty new graphics card and 256meg of ram, but a 988mhz processor....Not much hope there. Plus, I just kind of want another desktop. My grandpa kind took over the old compaq, and all I have in my room is this laptop...I have looked into upgrading this old thing though...sadly, not much there...
