(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians
per year are
120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician
is
0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of
Health Human Services.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>
Now think about this:
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S.
is
80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths
per year, all age groups,
is
1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths
per gun owner
is
.000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>
So, statistically, doctors are approximately
9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>> FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,
BUT
ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>
Please alert your friends
to this
alarming threat.
We must ban doctors
before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>> Out of concern for the public at large,
I withheld the statistics on
lawyers
for fear the shock would cause
people to panic and seek medical attention.

Not so funny - Michael Moore isn't opposed to guns.
But as to the original post: Cute and clever, but, like most bumper sticker logic, it is complete statistics abuse. Funny anyway, but there are unfortunately some people out there that are somehow convinced by bad math and think this little joke constitutes a great argument for something-or-other. *sigh*

Is a gun going to deliver a baby? Prescribe medication? diagnose a patient?
Let's see some statistics on how many lives physicians SAVE annually in the US and how many lives guns SAVE annually in the US.

Doctors see more people than just one person.
Just one person owns a gun.

yeah it's just how stereotypes linger...
give it a break, if people are dumb enough to believe that math, i think they can do fine without a doctor. self-chlorination of the gene pool.

a 1995 study conducted
by widely respected criminologist Gary Kleck, of Florida State
University, in which he averaged the figure to be approximately 2.5
million defensive gun usages (ie. where a firearm is displayed/used to
deter criminal conduct like burglaries and assaults) per year. He based
his statistic upon a national crime victim survey. Here, for example,
is a portion of peer review on Kleck’s study:
“How many times
each year do civilians use firearms defensively? The answers provided
to this seemingly simple question have been confusing. Consider the
findings from two of the most widely cited studies in the field:
McDowall et al. (1998), using the data from 1992 and 1994 waves of the
National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), found roughly 116,000
defensive gun uses per year, and Kleck and Gertz (1995), using data
from the 1993 National Self-Defense Survey (NSDS), found around 2.5
million defensive gun uses each year.

Most of those guns are probably rifles and shotguns. Which some
shotguns might be used for defensive purposes. While I am not
sure which side this supports. Most people own more than 1
gun. Between my dad and I we own 12 guns. All are used for
sport. But can be used for "defense" when the need arises.

| Yes. It goes something like "Mr. 12ga says give me all your oxycontin or the cashier gets it!"
And there was that story a while back about the guy who shot a corn off his toe with a rifle....
I'm somewhat of a gun nut and even I'm not overthinking this. It's a joke in response to activists doctors trying to get ammunition labeled as a harmful substance or guns as a national health crisis. Lazy bastages would rather prescribe mood-altering drugs to hyper-active kids who's parents(on zoloft) can't be bothered by them instead of sewing up gunshots. It's too messy and they don't get kickbacks from the ammunition companies like they do the drug companies.
