I'm installing a new valve.  I am using blue loctite 242 to seal the threads from the braided hose where it connects to the valve.

I noticed that the loctite seems to still be wet after a few hours.
The label says 20 min to seal & 24 hours to cure.  Will the loctite stay wet after 24 hours?  I don't want any getting into the internal workings of my new valve.

LocTite only sets up inside the threads. The bond/seal reaction takes place ONLY where oxygen (air) is excluded. Globs of it on the outside of the connection may eventually dry out, but will never "set up."

When you use LocTite or Permatex do not put it on the very leading edge of the male threads. Run the bead of LocTite around the fitting about one to two threads back from the end of the fitting. The fitting should start into the female side before the LocTite makes contact with the female side of the junction. This assures that none of the sealer gets inside the valve.

After the joint is tight, wipe off the excess that has exuded out around the edge of the fitting. Now, if you had used the Permatex blue gel you really wouldn't have to wait for things to "set up."

Go read post 15, mine, about valves and sealing. Marker Trouble? Read Maintenance Archive

I would use teflon tape for that connection. Loctite can form an airtight seal, but its not really what its designed for.

That and its a real whore to get the hose off when you need to upgrade or just change things up.

Not if you use the Blue  (medium strength) version.

LocTite makes a whole line of sealants and thread lockers. Orange looks to be a sealant rather than a thread locker, but the number is really necessary to identify it.
