LPK, e-grip w/blade trigger, new barrel/barrel kit, a good reg, fast hopper, and air tank.

In short, if you don't really love your tippmann, sell it and get an ion lol.

I say keep the tippy though. ;)

Agreed, With the money you'll spend you can get a good tourny gun out of the box.  I upped my 98 a bit and use it as a backup/woods gun.

Yes the ion would be better for electro tourneys.

I use my tippmann for mech tourneys and it pretty much PWNZ

If you have the 98, get an e-bolt or build your own...  It'll definately be able to keep up with an Ion.  I've got an E-bolted 98 that i've put together and right now it functions and minus the HPA tank and Hopper which you'd have for either gun it has cost me under $300...  Granted i'm gonna spend a bit more to get it exactly as I want it, but for an ebolt setup (including the base gun) that isn't bad, and it's a tippmann...

I wouldn't say 'keep up' with an Ion, but you could close the gap a bit. If you put $300 dollars into an Ion, then there is no question that it would surpass the 98.

quoted for truth

If you want to go the cost efficient way, not only can you build your own ebolt, but you can build your own LPK.

By doing this, you will have a sweet gun, and know EXACTLY whats going on inside of it. Its always nice to know how your gun operates...

Your statement isn't valid.  I'm saying I've spent $300, including the gun, and you're saying $300 on top of the gun.  I was stating that my stock BSI E-bolt will more than close the gap on a comparably priced stock ion.
Now if you want to put $300 on top of the Ion sticker price, then I'd add a Pred Board, Eyes, and a Palmerized LPK to the 98 and the Ion still isn't far, if at all, out in front of the 98.  Weight might be the only factor...

The stock BSI ram cycles at 30 bps...  are you telling me that a stock Ion is gonna keep up with that?

Posted By: karll
Date Posted: 21 July 2006 at 1:11pm
I didn't know you mean that was with the gun. I was lazy and didn't read as well as I should have. Plus, I didn't know how fast the ram could cycle. You are more than correct in saying that it could keep up with a stock Ion. Pardon me for speaking out of turn on something I was less than sure on.

the stock ion noid can do that too,  the board is just capped at 17.

My ion with the t-board,lucky bolt, and qev in ramp mode with no debounce could possibly hit that speed, i dout your tippmann can.

Ok, i've had a bit too drink, so this is gonna be a long one...  Praise to all those persons above the drinking age that read this and can toast to it!  This isn't directed at any one person, but just a vent about ions in general...

And...  I'm talking stock BSI 98 Custom Ebolt cycles at 30 BPS...  not t-boarded ion, i'm talking BONE stock...  no QEV, no debounce, STOCK...  you show me a stock ION ram that hits 30 on a cycle and i'll shut up...  and by the way, this is a tippmann forum...  not at smartparts, you find an ion like every 1/10 of the population that is into paintball.  I'm sure there is an Ion forum where you can talk about switching plastic body colors to make you marker "different."

and please dont come back with "everyone and their brother has a tippmann, because i'm telling you I have an ebolt, and if you show me more people in my area code that have e-bolts than ions, let alone a BSI ebolt, THEN i'll shut up...  any takers, area code 757, show me 100 ebolts in that area code and i'll show you at least 800 Ions...  CUSTOM is the name of this game, and if I can make a Tippmann keep up with your Ion, then my job is done, and I walk the trigger at 13 BSP all day long, your cheater modes mean nothing.
so if you want to talk, make me shut up...  the finished e-bolt will have a DM4 Pred Board, with Eyes, and a LPK for well under what an Ion plastic wonder would cost... whatever...  Don't cry because a Tippmann, yes what some will call a WAL*Mart Gun, can doo that too!   If you haven't seen the thread, I have a functioning BSI e-bolt that so far has cost me 280 bucks...  I'd love to see the Ion that is supposed to be it's match.

Sorry this is so long, but it's time to make a point...  for all of you that say Tippmann doesn't belong is Speedball this is your notice.  We have an electro-pneumatic that can keep up with the best of them...  And if you think this thread is crap, then i'm pretty sure those e-bolt users on here will back me up...  we are fewer and definately more proud than those Ion and Timmy users out there...  Ours didn't come production off an assembly line, we truly put the Custom in 98 Custom, and our Model 98 Breatheren are welcome too!

I know there are threads on here about building your own ebolt.  You might want to use the search function.
Basically it consists of an Pneumatic Ram, a switch, a controller board, and a selonoid with a regulator feeding it.  These components replace the sear, hammer, and drive spring.  The ebolt makes for an ultralight trigger pull, and the electro-pneumatic set up removes all the mechanical functions making for a more efficient marker.
the LPK consists of a Low Pressure Valve, a regulator and an accumulator.  These components allow you to regulate your air pressure down, thus producing a more efficient usage of that air.
Both upgrades can be purchased as kits, or you can put together your own.  Hope this helps.

The E-bolt How wonderful it truely is. most of us E-bolt owners are also not scared to customize our guns. Why is this? We care so much about our guns because we ACTUALLY technically built most of our gun. So, hell we made it, we are damn not afraid to customize it.

To define customize: Anything that improves your gun, Without buying it from a store and simply bolting it on.

Yeh, bolt-ons are one thing, but you'll rarely find someone willing to take a dremel tool or file to their timmy...  That's what i love about the 98, you can do so much to them to make it "your own"  Weather it's custom body work, custom internals, you name it...
Speaking of custom, did you all see my Pro-lite with the e-grip and ape board machine onto it?  Now that is custom!
