Well, with the Full Mech 98 project finished and the e-bolted 98 well on it's way (except for body mods and milling for both) I'm looking into another project to get my hands dirty with.
This is gonna be a little slower than my previous two guns, but should be fun none the less.  Enter Air Soldier Products.  Yes, I'm thinking the pump kit!  What I have already:  A 98 Custom body, with internals...  mostly left overs, but still in decent shape, a cyclone sans hopper, and a palmers inline.  These parts have kind of been collecting dust since they were the donors and left overs for the parts needed on the Full Mech and the E-bolt.
Basically I'm trying to get a feel for the quality of the pump kit.  I've done a search on the topic on here and I found a lot of people thinking about doing the conversion, but I couldn't find anyone that actually did.  I've also shot an email to ASP to go over a few concerns I have.  The number one being if i'd be able to run the cyclone off the valve due to the introduction of the blowback restrictor plate that comes with the kit.  other than that, I think it'd be smooth sailing.  mill off the foregrip so the gun is smooth, tac cap the cyclone, devise an asa that mounts a 9oz tank under and parallel to the body, this thing would rule the pump world!

Let me know if you have any experience with the pump kit, or if you've seen or read stuff on it somewhere.  thanks again!

I think I've only ever seen it on pbreview. Sounds awesome and shouldbe wicked cool when it's done. Good luck!!

Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

thanks for the encouragement...  I figure if i'm gonna have my two 98's on the operating table to do body mods, milling, and paint, i might as well throw a third one in the mix this winter and do them all at once!  Come the end October it'll prolly be getting too cold for PB, so I'll have plenty of time then!

I may have misunderstood your intentions, but I foresee some difficulties with the cyclone.  My guess (and it's only a guess*) would be that the air flow to the cyclone would be uninterrupted.  (As long as you used a power tube designed for the cyclone/response trigger.)  I base this on the fact that the only picture I found of the kit (on pbreview) showed what was included and there was a valve, but no power tube.

Where I see you running into problems is in the timing of the cyclone and bolt.  In semi-auto applications, the cyclone is timed to the bolt operation because they both are operated by the same air pressure.  In a pump application, the cyclone would operate as soon as the marker was fired, but it would no longer be automatically timed to the operation of the bolt.  This has the propensity to be very messy.

If I was doing this, I wouldn't make they cyclone air operated.  Instead, I would consider trying to link the pump arm to the manual reset system on the cyclone.

Anyway, I am intrigued with this project; so please keep us updated.

Good luck.

*Your post got me curious so I tried to find a schematic/picture of the modified valve but couldn't locate anything that would satisfy my curiosity.

Edited for clarity.

For some unknown reason I thought ASP stop selling the 98 pump kits.

I don't want to say a cyclone on a pump is a waste, but I think you could put it to better use. Either way, very innovative. Keep us updated.

That would explain why their website wasn't very helpful when I was researching this.

I can see what Mack said is true. Even if the cyclone did still work when it trigger the bolt will be in the forward position waiting for you to recock it so you will have to disconnect the cyclone from the air system. You could do it so the back strock of the cocking arm cocks the gun then the forward stroke pushes the "plunger" thingy on the back of the cyclone to cycle it. Sorry im bad at explaining I dont know the proper words for the cyclone parts lol, ill try and get a paint extraviganza made to explain better

Continuing from the last box

A latch system will have to be made so when the cyclone has cycled the hook lets go of the cyclone letting it reset.

Interesting engineering project. I would, however, suggest scrapping the cyclone part of the project and mounting a 20rnd spring-feed.

Aw come on; the cyclone part is the challenging/intriguing part.
