...like, the 150mil one, what would you spend it on? I personally would pay for both my and my fiancee's college, then spend about 10k on an uber comp/entertainment center, then build my dream house in the back of 10 or 15 acres, then pay off my grandparents house and/or just buy them a cabin by the lake they go to every weekend and give them enough to retire on, then start a paintball field/proshop, then buy my girl whatever car she wanted, then buy these four vehicles:
The Caddy XLR for everyday driving. (Yes I ripped it off Whale)

The Bugatti Veyron, just for fun. (or maybe some other super car...I don't know...)

The GMC Canyon, for work and/or off-roadin...Prolly in black.

And some sort of ticked off sport bike, again, just for fun.
Then, I'd probably get whatever other neat toys I want (uber smartphone, ect) to finish out my spend fest. After that I'd donate a couple million to various charities/schools/political campaigns and invest the rest for the future, probably a mix between real estate and stocks.
How 'bout you?
ps I realize that I posted car pics, but feel free to include pic of any kind of expensive stuff in you spending plan...lol...I am so materialistic...

You know what it is don't you? I thought for sure Ryan that you would know!
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKa, NYSE: BRKb) is a company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, that oversees and manages a number of subsidiary companies. Berkshire Hathaway's core business is insurance, including underwriting of property and casualty insurance, reinsurance and specialty nonstandard insurance. The company is controlled by Warren Buffett, who is one of the most celebrated investors in history and is currently the second-richest man in the world according to Forbes magazine. Buffett has used the "float" provided by Berkshire Hathaway's insurance operations (a policyholder's money which it holds temporarily and is allowed to invest for its own profit) to finance his investment schemes. In the early part of his career at Berkshire these focused on long-term investments in publicly quoted stocks, but more recently Berkshire has purchased a diverse range of non-insurance businesses including candy production and sales at retail, newspaper publishing, retailing of home furnishings, sales of encyclopedias, sales of home cleaning units, manufacture and distribution of uniforms, retail jewelry, and manufacture, import and distribution of footwear.
The Company averaged a phenomenal 25%+ annual return to its shareholders for the last 25 years while employing large amounts of capital. Berkshire has identified utility as its next big area of investment. In 2005, Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935 was repealed; this allowed utility investors such as Berkshire to have more control over their investments.
Thank you Wikipedia.

Hmm...that actually sounds like a good system...I wonder why no one has tried that before...
How and I'd also like to add a nice vacation home in Southern France, and a custom made motorcycle like the one from Akira to my list. Like this one:

But more true to the original design (bigger mainly), but maybe painted black. I'd also have a kick arse nav system there in the front...that would make it awsome for road trips...I bet you could inclose it too...But uh yeah, nevermind...not gonna highjack my own thread...back to the lotto spending!
Edit: Barn, sorry to disappoint, but hey I learned something.... Interesting idea, I'd diversify if I were you though.....

Buy myself a decent house, to avoid that particular debt later. Put enough aside to finish school. After that I would invest every dollar and live off the interest. I'd still be a police officer and an army reservist- I'd be one of those quiet millionaires you hear about now and then who lives a modest life and then leaves a couple hundred mil when he dies.
Lottery winnings aren't taxed here in Canada. Assuming a diverse investment portfolio I could probably get a secure 10% a year- that's 15 mil a year to play with; most of that would probably go right back into the principal- I couldn't possibly spend all that.
I'd make sure my kids were set up so they could enter life educated and debt free, and then give them each five mil or so once they hit 25 if they were free of legal troubles etc.
As I got older and smarter and close to dying I'd set up most of it in a charitable trust with the principal remaining untouched, half the interest a year going to charity and the other half going into the principal so it could continue to grow.

A Ferrari.. and a Hummer. Then a Log Cabin in Maine. THen a M4 with a nice rail system and some fun gadgets. A custom built chopper. BMW 7 Series. A nice house. nothing to big though. Just enough garages to fit my cars. Then I would invest in something I like.
Maybe buy that new 6.68mm gun. I dont remember the name of it. But its really nice. Put a good chunk in the bank. Donate to the wounded troops. Buy some Dragonskin or something. You know, useful stuff.

me and some co-workers have thought about this because we recently started a lottery pool.
First thing I would do, contact a good CPA and lawyer. Last thing you want to happen to your money is for it to disappear.
as for spending:
1) about a $500,000 shopping spree. I'd build an absolute top of the line computer system, a laptop, a complete new wardrobe, and just anything else that I wanted that I have always just had to walk by. I'd probably take a few friends with me too on that shopping trip
2.) I'd find a nice apartment here in down town milwaukee. If not an apartment, a very nice condo.
3.) furnish my place
4.) put away most of all the rest of it, and make sure my family will be taken care of. No one in my family will be using the excuse "I can't go to college because I can't afford it".
5.) Travel. Everywhere.
edit: oh yeah... i'd have a dollar give away on here too. Free dollars for everyone!

There's four jets that can be rotated to some extent. Diagram:

On the new JSF, or whatever they're calling it now, there's a single rotatable jet on the back that can do that....I think I heard that they cancelled that project though....

Aside from investing/ charity stuff: I'd pay to finish all my schooling, as well as both my sisters schooling. Pay off anything we dont have paid off (cars, house, whatever)
As for new stuff. I'd try to get my hands on a Cadillac Cien:
As well as probably a Gallardo:
Oh, and of course, an STI:
and Toyota Tacoma
I'd buy a pile of new clothes. I'd build a wicked gaming PC, and (when it comes out) get the best intel G5 I could. Home entertainment system, and an absolutly killer music collection.

Land. As much as I can get, and just sit on it.
Set aside enough to pay taxes on said land/house/school.
Fund my dad's start ups, he has so many ideas...
Buy a few small things. (Car, comp, pb stuff)
Charity.

this is an awesome thread. i would probably spend about 2 million buying everyone in my family a nice car of their choice. about 1/3 of it on charity. a nice house for my mom/dad and grandmas. buy the new jersey nets. help friends and their families with money problems. a couple nice pball guns and start an organization that helps families in need. o yea, and buy a private jet...or 5.

I don't understand why anyone is saying anything about paying for college and whatnot.
The purpose of college is to get the knowledge/skills to get a good job that supplies enough money to live comfortably.... If you have $150+ mil, why on Earth do you need college?
I personally would not go to college and never work another day of my life.
I'd buy a nice $1 mil or so house and pimp it out with some sweet flatscreens and a bomb sound system. I'd have a game room with pool table, arcade-type games and etc.
As far as cars go, I'd get a Lincoln Towncar for everyday driving and a convertible Corvette for when I need to get somewhere fast.
If I got bored and decided to make a business endeavor, I'd complete one of my life goals and open a headshop called "Bongs 'R Us" right next to a restaurant called "Munchies."
I'd drop a few mil on the effort to legalize recreational use of marijuana, and use my vaporizer every day for the rest of my life.
With whatever was left (should still be over $100 mil), I'd invest 50% in stocks/bonds, 25% in the bank, and 25% in land.

With whatever was left (should still be over $100 mil), I'd invest 50% in stocks/bonds, 25% in the bank, and 25% in land. |
You, sir, would make a fine millionaire.

It's because we're not all lazy stoners...
No seriously though, I would still go through school, because I like learning, and I would still go into teaching, because I think I will really like my work. I really think I would get bored just living it up all the time. If I didn't work, I've have to start some sort of non-profit group to work with or something....However, if I did hit it, I'd prolly start an uber paintball field, and if that went well, I probably wouldn't teach...I don't know...nevermind..lol..

Pay off all outstanding debts.
Pay off 4 year college tuition. Finish college.
Buy a small home in Orlando or Atlanta. Pay off completly.
Put 75% of whats left over in the bank, and never touch it, just keep
using the interest. Take the other 35% and invest it. Most in mutual
funds, the rest in medium risk stocks.
