i dont kno if this is common of flatlines or what but im not used to foolin with em so heres my problem i recently put a flatline of my 98c and it has been pretty acurate but for sum reson now when i shoot at a target i have in our feild the paint ball flys rite at the target jus looks like its goona hit directly without stearing off course at all but wen it gets about 2 feet away from the target the ball jus flys way up it the air like it was shot off of a ramp

Was it windy? Was your velocity consistent? How far out was the target?

Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

Are you using good paint (ie. is the paint dimpled, dirty, or offshape, too big or too small)? The flatline is very very picky on paint. Is your barrel clean?

NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil.

that sounds like a velocity problem.. since while it's flying through the air the velocity of the ball changes.. It was most likely caught by a draft of wind....Flatline does best at 280-290 fps and I recommend RPS Paintballs, STAY away from Big-Balls though.. those chop I recommend Marbalizer or Premium RPS

I have to partly agree with RevoXT, it sounds like your velocity needs to be changed a little. Since the amount of backspin is hard wired into the barrel design, the velocity  gives you the only control available.

Use a chronograph...OR, now I am going to qualify this...the Flatline shoots best at velocities lower than 300 fps, so in this particular case you may be able to "eyeball" the trajectory flight and make adjustments in velocity that correct the flight of the ball. If you adjust the velocity too "hot" the Flatline usually really acts up (wild flight and broken paint in the barrel). So, with this barrel only, you may be able to adjust things and end up with the correct velocity by trial and error. Still, after you get the flight corrected, have the marker chronographed.

The Apex barrel's back spin can be adjusted right on the mechanism of the barrel. So small idiosyncrasies can be easily adjusted out.

As for RevoXT's recommendation of paint...those brands work well, but for the most part are relative expensive. I have found Nelson Hemorrhage to be very, very good (small diameter) in my Flatline and it costs only about $34 a case.

The best CHEAP paint that I have found is right now on clearance at ALL Sports Authoritys... and it is EXCELLENT paint. It is called Dusk, normally online for 1,000 it's like 30$ or something, right now it's only 18-20$ for 1,000! I personally try to stick with higher-end paintballs because I HATE chopping.. however my field "Paintball Atlanta" uses RPS-Field which seems fine.... I'm going to try out Bruce's paint though and see if it's good, because 34$ per case is one heck of a price.

This is a very common problem, or more accuratly a product of the flatline design itself, and is caused by high velocities.  What is happening is that the paintball is moving too fast when it leaves the barrel, and it is not until the paintball slows down that it begins to poduce lift by spinning.  Think of a curveball in baseball.  The ball curves due to the spin placed on it by the pitcher.  However the point at which it begins to curve is determined by the speed of the pitch(AKA velocity), the faster the pitch, the closer to the plate that the ball begins to curve.

The solution of course is to follow Bruce's instructions and you should be good to go.  For a flatline, use of a chronograph is good to get you in the ball park, but due to variances in shell and paintfill between brands the only way to achieve consistant accuracy out of a flatline is to keep adjusting your velocity until your marker shoots how you want it to.  Like everything you do, you get out of it, what you put into it.  By spending a little time with your marker now, you and your marker will be better on the field.
