Today 8/13/06, is the first time i experianced a full paintball game and i have to say II LOVEEE ITT......SOOOOO MUCHHH FUUUNN.....just the whole concept of hiding...communicating to see where they are and just hitting them is all fun to me. of course at the place i went to ( http://www.libertypaintball-ny.com - www.libertypaintball-ny.com ) i had to get thier rental equipment and they supplied rentees with a Tippmann custom gun stock. it wasnt a bad gun at all. however my biggest issues wit the gun is its accuracy and distance. my type of game is a lovely sit behind some good cover trying to spot some peeking enemies trying to get my teammates and obv i cant look thru the sight of the gun and hit him with direct results. Never with the way the balls were curving after about 15-20ft. i wish i had a counterstrike awp style sniper gun and just picking them off easily but since i dont know much about paintball guns i dont know if they have some sort of gun like that. so i was wondering whats the best bang for the buck with excellent accuracy and distance for some good kills. i had many incidents where i see the enimes and they dont see me but i try to hit him and all my balls are curving and i reveal my position rather than killing them. ARGHHHHHHHHH and there not that far away. so help me get into the game by leaning me towards a uber yet cheap gun Thanks |

| so i just glanced over that, sounds to me like you want to be teh 1337 oober sniper. well, keep dreaming, it doesnt exist. if you give us a price range, and the type of pb you will mostly play (woods or speed) we can reccommend some guns and upgrades for you. but hey, first post and you got it in the right forum, congrats! |

I'd go with an A5 and a new barrel like a JJ Ceramic or LAPCO Bigshot. Once you get some more cash for paintball, I'd say to look into a forepower upgrade. Welcome to the forums!! I personally would recommend the 98 custom with the WAS E-Trigger myself. You can set it to any mode, very light trigger pull. Get the Cylone feed and you can't beat it. I like a 98 custom better than the A-5 myself having owned several of both through the years. Nothing wrong with the A-5, but you can get more gun for the money with a 98 Custom Pro and hop it up with the E-Trigger. You will like the E-Trigger MUCH better than the Response trigger in my opinion. The response trigger is too pressure sensitive where as the pressure in your tank drops, the tuning drops off and isn't adjusted like it was with a full tank.....the trigger pull is a beast and takes some getting used to to find the "sweet spot". The E-Trigger is like clicking a mouse. Zero trigger pull and you can spit them out even on semi auto. But to each his own. You may have to try each one and see which suits you best. I have played for well over 20 years and have had about every type of paintball marker made and always come back to the 98 Custom.....they are hard to beat. Of course a good barrel is a must. The Tippmann Werks barrel that comes on the 98 custom pro isn't bad. But you will be much better served with an All American or Lapco Bigshot. I would spend more money on the barrel than any other upgrade, to a point. Anything is better than the stock 98 or A-5 barrels....they are pitiful. |

If you don't have a lot of money to spend right off the get-go, I'd get a 98 Custom Pro with A.C.T.(Anti Chop Tech). From there like most paintball guns, it's a blank slate waiting to be customized to your liking. As you've mentioned, you'd prefer woodsball and extra range. A flatline barrel when you can afford it is a nice addition. Next upgrades should be an electronic trigger and a good motorized hopper. Those together will help increase your rate of fire. If you start getting into wanting to throw a lot of paint and you're still using C02, a good expansion chamber like the DOP 8-stage is a must.
It's good that you're here investigating your options instead of just blindly going out and making an impulse purchase on the advice of a store owner. If you have friends that play, tap them for info too. See what other people are playing with and ask them questions about their markers and what they like or dislike. You'll find some people that will give you some good advice and you'll also find people that are somewhat prejudiced when it comes to hardware. Take it all in. Keep looking, you'll find a setup that will make you happy. Congratulations on finding paintball and welcome to the forums! -------------

for distance, any home-owned marker will shoot the same distance. the reason the rental markers don't seem to shoot as far, is they lower the velocity so it's less of a pain to adjust it each time someone plays a day with it. sounds like what you need is a Tippmann 98c ACT... and of course the aftermarket barrel that was mentioned (lapco bigshot/jj ceramic)... btw, welcome to the sport and our forum. ------------- X |

Well today i went back to the paintball ball place.and again i had a blast...jesus so much fun! BUT ARGHHH DAMN rental 98c pro wasnt shooting accuractly due to the fact u guys say the stock barrel is garbage...must be y. i missed like 4 guys today because of that. im def on the hunt for a gun! everytime i go back the more pumped i am to buying a gun. so again i was cruisin through the galleries and most of u guys are hailing to the promaster...and their price dropped to 250...which i can afford.
so im thinking whats a better gun. a 98c pro ACT with a 12" or 14" longshot barrel for that accuracy that im looking for or a stock promaster in the meantime?
i also want punching power meaning a gun with hard hitting power. can i get that in either gun? so help me out here guys |

You don't want a Promaster yet. They are electropneumatic, which means you can't use CO2, or you'll blow up the solenoid. I suggest getting the Tippy and getting used to it before getting a good electropneu. ------------- Evil Elvis: "Detrevni is definally like a hillbilly hippy from hell"

The best thing you can do to improve accuracy is train with your gun and get a good paint/barrel bore size match. sigh...ok coming up (sept 17) is a big ass tourn where they take all the courses and make into one huge course...i need to be ready for that day. so i need a decent gun to compete with these guys. im really just thinking of getting a tippy 98 custom pro with a lapco big shot 14" barrel. would that be a great start?

Sounds good to me. Tippies are good starter guns, and are easy to maintain and are reliable. And we don't just say that because we're on these forums! If you have a high spending limit, you can get an E98c. It's fast and has potential. But if you really want a Promaster, you should be aware you'll need a fast hopper, and a good HPA tank. That will run you an extra 200 or so dollars. If you do get the Promaster, learn how to use it effectively and treat it well. No, a Promaster and Virtue boards and anything in that class is speedball oriented. HPA is High Pressure Air. Basically a nitrogen tank. Well, HPA tanks are a quite a bit more expensive, but the fills themselves shouldn't cost much. Most people don't use nitrogen anymore, they just use expensive air compressors to fill the tanks with, well, high pressure air. The problem is, the compressors have to be specifically bought to fill the tanks, because normal compressors only have an output of maybe 300 psi or so. You need aroud 4,000 psi or so to fill a paintball HPA tank. These compressors can cost $10,000 or so, so getting one is out of the question. While this is the case, most fields should have one of these compressors to fill HPA tanks, as to so many people use it. They dont charge that much because once they buy the compressor, they dont have to buy anything else ever unless it breaks. Let me put compressed air and co2 prices this way: CO2 tanks are cheaper but more expensive to fill, Dont worry about HPA now. Just get a CO2 tank or two with a Tippmann and you will be fine..... -------------
