Sounds kinda...made up to me...like the time there was the scare of Joey Jordison (slipknots drummer) dying. But in the case its true...thats a freaky freak accident. ill miss that crazy aussie with really short shorts. Though I woulda thaught he woulda been bitten by a croc or something...not some stupid ray...lol
EDIT: Nevermind, its on CNN too...so it must be true lol

Aw man, that sucks! I really liked his show as a kid. He had a wife and a couple of young kids, too. Bloody shame.

Steve Irwin dead
The naturalist and television star Steve Irwin has died in a diving accident in far north Queensland. He was 44.
Police say he was stung through the heart by a stingray while diving off Port Douglas.
He was filming a documentary when the accident occurred around midday AEST near the Low Isles.
A helicopter arrived with paramedics on board to try to resuscitate him, but it was too late.
Irwin, who was was born in Victoria in 1962, inherited his love of reptiles from his father.
His father Bob was a keen reptile enthusiast and moved the family to
Queensland in 1970 to open a small reptile park on the Sunshine Coast.
Irwin took over the family business in 1991 and grew it into Australia Zoo.
In 1992 he ventured into television, making the first series of the Crocodile Hunter.
When the program aired in the United States, he shot to international fame.
Irwin is survived by his wife Terri and two children.

I saw it on NBC this morning..... Its kinda sad too, they had an interview with him from a while back and all he talked about was his kids.......
You would think that a crock would eat him or something, but no. a stupid stingray. That would be like hitler chokeing on a cookie or something at the end of WWII kinda.......
I used to have a stingray as a pet........

I used to make fun of him, but now that he's gone I realize that I actually liked him.
I always thought he'd die by being hit by a truck or something. He always seemed to be either pathologically lucky or incredibly skilled, even when he was wrestling large reptiles.
Goodbye, Steve.

Sucks to see him go. I never really thought of how he would die. But watching TV, I've always sorta had that feeling "its TV, a whole camera crew is there and everything, its a controlled situation, nothing too serious could really happen."
Makes me think twice now.
I feel really bad for his wife and kids.

The underwater video footage of Steve Irwin's death after he was
speared in the chest by a stingray was "shocking" his manager
reportedly said today.
John Stainton told reporters the footage, which he had handed to
police, was the worst thing he had ever seen, Sydney's 2GB radio
reported this morning.
"I have seen the footage and it's shocking," Mr Stainton said.
"It's a very hard thing to watch because you're watching somebody
die and it's terrible."
Mr Stainton, also a producer and director of Irwin's popular
television shows, said the footage showed Mr Irwin pulling the barb
out of his chest before losing consciousness.
'The tail came up'
"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came
up, and spiked him here (in the chest), and he pulled it out and
the next minute he's gone.
"That was it. The cameraman had to shut down."
Mr Stainton, who was aboard Mr Irwin's vessel Croc One when the
tragedy occurred, said it was likely the television star and
naturalist died almost immediately as a result of the stingray's
blow.
"(He was) probably a metre coming over the top of it," he said.
"He was underwater. I think, and the coroner's report will say what
happened, but I think he died fairly instantly."
Mr Stainton said he was still in disbelief that a stingray could
claim his close friend's life.
"He was always on the precipice," he said.
"He always pushed himself to the very limits but I thought he was
invulnerable and I think he did too."
