So I'm one of those people who doesnt believe HPA is all that great, at least when it comes to tippmanns.  I have an A-5 and am putting an E-Grip on it with Rampage board.  I use a 20 oz. C02 and more often then not i use a remote.  would you say a good x-core chamber would be good enough, or should i spring for a palmsers stabilizer?  If you suggest an x-core, which brand is good?

It's always nice to have a regulator on your gun. You could pass with an x-chamber just because you aren't using an electro-pneumatic gun. Depends if you can spare the extra cash for a reg.

X-core is made by Dead On. Apparently it's one of the better X-chambers.

I'd go for the reg, because I view the X-chamber as a band-aid.

go stabilizer if you can afford it.  x-chambers don't work too great in my experiance...

......X-Chambers work fine, only if you use the good ones though. The Tippmann X-Chamber isn't all that good.. it's four stages just like the stock Spyder Expansion Chambers.. you want ATLEAST 6 or 8, right now I'm pretty sure the X-Core is the only one that offers 8... it WILL "most" likely break up more liquid than a Stabalizer. Stabalizer (correct me if I'm wrong) is six stages + regulation.... X-Core is alot cheaper and will fix almost all your problems w\ C02. Heck, my gun never freezes up with Anti-Siphon alone.. I just added the X-Core for even more "protection"

If you can afford a Palmer Stabilizer, go for it.  But if you want to go on the cheap, the DOP X-Core 8 stage expansion chamber is a great addition.  They're only $20 give or take and do a great job.  If you stick with C02, an antisiphon tube compliments the expansion chamber nicely.

Go with the stab... its not all about just freezing up its also about spikes when you regulate the air it puts a big stop to most of the spikes... but with co2 you will have a lot of shoot down because co2 doesnt recharge fast enough for an egrip

A friend of mine runs his A-5 with CO2.  He has a remote and a good x-chamber.  He has left his E-Grip on full auto, max ROF since he bought it.  He never freezes.  Based on that sample of 1, I would think you would be fine with the x-chamber.

That said, the Stabilizer does provide additional regulation benefits, although they are minimal without the LPK.

will i really get shoot down?  i thaught co2 had better recharge rates?

You should NOT get shoot-down if you Anti-Siphon and X-Core it.. heck you could ever do TWO X-Cores get a adapter to screw INTO your tank then gun, then one in the vertical adapter place, you would NEVER have shoot-down then

with high rates of fire everythin has shootdown it just depends how well your tank is... nitro tanks are better more not having shootdown

i dont no for a fact but i would say yes... i would say take the move to hpa... you can get a ok crossfire tank for a 100 which is the same price of a stab... but for the co2 with stab you most likely will cuz co2 is a nonconsistant gas

for some reason i still find it hard to believe that co2's recharge rate is bad enough to give me shoot down with an e-grip.  some second oppinions? no offense Ric

C02 recharge rate is FINE. The problems he is talking about (I am hoping) is w\o an X-Core or Anti-Siphon.... You should be fine. I'm pretty sure C02's recharge rate is faster than MOST HPA tanks.

i think that c02 will actually recharge faster for short bursts than hpa. this is with anti siphon or remote. just don't expect to shoot a whole tank off, it will eventually freeze. hpa should have the same shootdown whether you shoot 10 shots or 1000.

the reason co2 is underrated is because it sucks until you antisiphon or remote it.

yes but they are making hpa tanks with almost no shootdown like the new crossfire tanks are in the top 3 i believe in least amount of shootdown... its in a magizine somewhere

"From the tests, the Centerflag, Crossfire and Pure Energy systems were found to have the best flow rates, with the Evil Scion producing very good results also.  Of these the Crossfire is the group leader, which, although matched by the Pure Energy system in terms of recovery time, does not suffer from the same pressure fluctuations.  The remaining systems all have regulators that start to close early in the recovery period, which has the effect of restricting airflow and extending the recovery time – the worst offenders being ACI Bulldog and the Dye Throttle with recovery times of over 10 times that of the Crossfire."

Yah, I have a scion. When I use my custom pro E with female stabalizer, I got no shoot down or it was very little shoot down that it wasn't noticeable. Yes, I was using co2. Palmers is known for their great regulators and very good recharge. In cold weather, the palmers kept my gun from freezing and kept giving me consistent shots. I love that thing.

Yes, its possible , shootdown happens when the CO2 cant convert to a gas from a liquid fast enough , and the temperature of the liquid drops , lowering the gas pressure , causing "Shootdown" , even if you have guaranteed 100 percent conversion to a gaseous state with the CO2, Its possible at sustained High rates of fire .

This is just a rough guesstimate , but if you do say,,, repeated bursts of 50+ ropes , with intermittent single shots , you WILL experience shootdown with CO2 , whereas , if you do mostly single shots ,or triplet bursts , and infrequent sustained bursts of "Supression " fire (aforementioned bursts of 50 plus rounds) , you'll most likely be fine with a reg or expansion chamber . My style of play more closely matches the latter , so I play with my 98C just as the air system came , and rarely if ever do I notice any shootdown .

The most accurate answer depends on your intended style of play , Yeah , its possible . I lay out supression fire when its called for , but its really difficult to say "No, system X will never allow you to experience shootdown" , it depends too much on how you use it , almost like getting mileage from an automobile , you keep the pedal to the metal , you arent gonna get the most mileage ,  , but you WILL get there quicker !

Anyway, it simply comes down to this. IS IT WORTH IT? I personally would say no... seems others would beg to differ but that's fine. C02 has never given me problems (then again i've never used it w\o anti-siphon or an x-chamber) HPA is something I would only goto if I had a Smart Parts, Autococker, or any higher end gun like that. Tippmanns do FINE with C02 and even more so when you install the cheap, but very effective fixes.

Well with shootdown rate. if your doing 10 bps at 50 degrees yes you are screwed. Not only will there be a nice big cloud of white stuff in front of you your balls arent going anywhere. in my mind its worth the investment of an air tank. i love mine Carlton 68/45 135 bucks. Pm Enos he used to have a wicked awsome chart on Co2 recharge rates.

I have a pps with an anti siphon tank running on a remote with my a-5 egrip.  It shoots 0-13 bps fine holding it down with no shoot down that I can see a whole hopper.  15-17 you can hold it down for around 5-10 seconds probably, I never tested it before but I'm thinking it probably wont recharge that fast enough to just hold it down.  I've held down on 13 bps a full hopper it's fine.  I use 13 bps becuase...I dont want to waste that much paint. :D  but if you're going like 20 bps I've tested it, it can only shoot about 2 seconds and it wont recharge it fast enough but then I hooked up a hpa tank to it and it shot it fine and you can go through a whole hopper..although the cyclone really doesnt keep up with it anymore so I guess you dont know if you've got any shoot downs or not.  PPS works fine for me. :D  Just my own personal experience, yours may differ.  I've never tested out the x-core thing before.
