That's right, folks, here it is:
Out of the box I like it. Very solid feel. The plastic isn't quite A-5 solid, I don't think, but it's very close. I won't worry about dropping this thing. It is also lighter than its 98 cousin. More details after I shoot it, which will be soon.
Better pictures will also be forthcoming at a later point.

If you like it thats all that matters. I think it looks like a water gun. But what do i know
|
Posted By: Rambino
Date Posted: 21 September 2006 at 7:38pm
Well, took it to the range.
As to how it shoots, feels, sounds, accuracy, etc - you all know already. It shoots just like a 98 - not surprising, given that it has all 98 internals. The barrel is a stock 98 barrel (although I slapped a Freak on it right away).
On semi (this is the electro version) it is just like shooting a stock e-grip/e-bolt. Much faster than a mech, but not exactly walkable. I expect that regular e-grip trigger mods will apply, which could make it much faster.
On 3-round burst I was outshooting the Revvy. I will try the full auto/ramping modes when I remember to bring my HALO.
It did uncock on a few occasions at high ROF. This may be due to using nitro with the integrated x-chamber. It may be that the gun will work better with CO2.
Overall, I am very impressed. It is a 98 in a very sturdy package, completely self-contained. No hoses, attachments, or anything else. Completely plug-n-play, which is exactly as it should be. Other than BE guns, most other "beginner" guns still require a reasonable amount of handiness to figure out what to attach where. Not so with this.
I'll have to get back to BFG soon to give it a whirl in a real game.

True. I should have stated it clearer. With my Angel I can walk the trigger easily (although not well). With the Triumph it was strictly "pull the trigger fast". A better walker than me could probably shoot much faster. I would be very surprised, however, if the average Triumph buyer would be able to to that.
But, as noted, some spring switches or mag mods, some trigger stops and limiters, and this could be pretty sweet. My biggest gripe personally is that the trigger is so contoured. I prefer more of a straight trigger, but is really just a matter of taste.

Why would you say that? You have obviously never held one of these.
This gun is as solid as any of my other guns. Like I said earlier, if I drop the gun, I am more worried about the loader, tank, and barrel than I am about the gun.
And I have no reason to expect that it will be any less reliable than a 98 Custom, since the internals are all the same.

I personally question the long-term operating reliability. I'd like to see pics of the inside because, looking at the owner's manual, it looks like the metal hammer is just sliding back and forth on plastic. And not even smooth plastic but ribs. Even if the hammer were mirror smooth, this would still wear the plastic pretty badly.
Let's see some pics of it's guts!

ya that does seem like it would be a problem i think the blowback is wierd
because since its 98 internals originaly used in a metal gun have been put

So I finally took the thing apart. Here are internal pictures:
What I started with:
Front cover off. Two screws. No access to anything exciting other than more screws.
Battery cover off. This is a nice feature. Single allen screw to change the battery, without any disassembly.
Foregrip off. Two screws and an allen bolt.
Rear grip off. It is held in place by two allen bolts, cocker/mag style. There are standard bottomline holes on the bottom of the grip.
Expansion chamber exposed (XT and eXT only). The ASA does not come off. Looks like you could tap in any of your direct 98 accessories/lines into the powertube here to create a more custom look and use your own ASA.
Closer-up of same.
And the guts. They look pretty much like 98 parts. I don't have a 98 to make side-by-side comparisons, but it looks almost the same to me.
Partially reassembled. It is fully functional in this form.

Absolutely. I do that tomorrow for the heck of it. It is not as solid as a 98, of course, but it is very solid. Like I said in an earlier post, I will worry about breaking my hopper, tank, and barrel before I worry about breaking the gun.
the only delicate part of the gun is the electronic, but the rear grip housing is very solid protection there as well.
And I am confident that the eXT will be $100 before long. My personal prediction based on no knowledge at all. With mid-range electros at 250-400, the low-end market will have to get pushed down.

I realized a skipped a picture. Here is the inside of the grip frame, showing electronics.
The trigger structure is like the A-5 E-Grip, except that it is not a removable module like the A-5 trigger housing. In that sense it is, again, just like the 98 trigger mechanism. I haven't seen a 98 e-grip, but I would presume that it looks just like this.
Presumably most/all of your ebolt/e-grip trigger jobs would work on this gun.

That seems like a little much to get the gun apart. They made this gun with the begginer in mind, no? So why would they make it so hard to take apart...
And BTW, that e-grip looks almost excactly like my 98c e-grip, except for the battery is placed a little bit differently. Other than that though, its the same exact thing. Good pictures. :)

Goin back to the e-grip it looks identical to my 98 which means that people will be able to put WAS boards in (if they already aint in them) and APE boards and it should also except the APE e-trigger as well, then it sure as well will walk. Trigger costs most of the gun again but its a hell of a trigger and would give a very unsuspecting look, like a ghost gun looks normal but can rip
------------- Well...Putfile deleted all my pictures so I don't have a signature atm!

Just to let you know, you might get a leak where the asa meets the expansion chamber. That happened to my dad, and no hes looking for a new gun, because it hasnt even lasted a year and we've played only 8 or 9 times! And its a beast to take apart compared to a custom pro, a5, and vs3.
