Ok, so im kinda so im not the weakest or skinniest guy ever. But having to rely on speed when I get in fights and not being able to lift some stuff when i need too, gets old pretty quick. So I could use some help. My legs are really strong from lots of bike riding and such... But My upper body needs some (a lot...) of work. So I figured I's ask you guys, what excersises and things like that do you find most effective to work on your upperbody.

btw, da excersise equipment i have is  bowflex, and a tredmill so ya...

You don't need anything fancy. Pushups, chinups, pullups all use your own body weight and are quite effective at strengthening and toning. I'm noticing a lot of improvement just off doing constant chinups, myself.

More important than strength is speed and technique. Learn how to fight and you won't be screwed because there's not a lot of mass behind your punch.

Get fat, then work out. Fat is the easist thing to turn into muscle! If you barely have any...you're outta luck. I'm over-weight (250 6'00) but I can lift things that none of my friends can. I can also use my body-weight to knock people right over which is a +. I'll admit, people are faster than me sure, but once there on the ground.. they are NOT getting back up :) Even if they do, I just ram them with my shoulder....and their back on the ground again.

Finally read the end of your post sneaky... why do you even have equipment? If you really want to build muscle you don't need a crappy bow-flex or any weights for that matter. There are PLENTY of things you can lift up which will build up muscle :-P. I find it funny that people actually GOTO gyms... You can easily do things outside to build muscle, work in the yard, cut some wood..... etc.

if your a skinny guy take protein suppliments and keep to a excersize schedule.

if u have a bowflex use the bowflex, if u have free wieghts there alot better for you because youll get your stabilizer muscles going.

As mentioned, excercises that use your body weight are great, use a nice wide stance with pushups to give your chest muscles a good workout, use a shoulder width stance to give the triceps more of a workout.  Dips are some of the best all around upper body excercises you can do.  Don't forget about your shoulders, dumbell lifts work great, and don't worry about how many you can do, focus more on your technique, nice and slow and work the full range of the muscle group.

i got ripped working in a machine shop. however i figure if im ever in a fight its going to be in defence and im gunna inflict as much pain as possable as fast as i can.

instead of relying on strength alone i carry a fire ax in my car...

as for bulking up use your own weight pushups, pull ups, sit ups, run, bike ect. plus eat alot of chicken.

Body weight can only get u so far untill your just getting more defined. You'll need weights to bulk up, and dont fall into a pattern of doing the exact same work out each time. Switch it up and do the same musles but in different ways. I've been working out for around 5-6 years now and its the best thing ive done.

o yeah i almost forgot broads are all about abs, so throw ab workouts into your schedule.

(sorry for the double post) but I dont try to get into fights... but as im sure you will all agree, I tend to annoy/piss people off. So all the "rednecks" at my old school hate me and even tho i dont go there anymore, I still get death threats from em. (i guess thats what happens when your protective of your friends, sarcastic, and very oppinionated) and since i hang out at the mall a lot with my friends, i tend to see people that hate me frequently there.

what the hell are you talking about? Fat and muscle are two different things.  If you're fat, you'll get the most benefit from lifting, or so you think because the fat gets burned and you see the muscle.

Anyways, upper body.  Start of with bench press, your first lifting days should be low weight with tons of reps.  That should tear the muscle up and prepare you for regular lifting.  Or at least thats what they do for us in weight training.  Bench press for chest, Incline Bench for your shoulders and other parts of your arms.  For biceps do curls, and pull ups.  Push ups also for chest.  For triceps take a dumbell and raise it over your back while standing up, provided you don't have a universal gym.

Pyramids. I love em, its good PT

You start out,

1 push up
1 sit up

jog for like, 30 seconds.

2 push ups
2 sit ups

You go up to ten or fifteen, then you work your way back down. 15 push ups, 15 sit ups. And so on and so forth.

Do that like, tuesdays and thursdays and saturdays if you want. I run on mondays, wednesdays and fridays. I usualy work out twice a day.

well i'm not just doing this so i can beat the crap outta some guy, but I work on cars, I have to help move large objects around frequently and other junk like that, so its kinda annoying having your arms being tired after just trying to put the new springs in the drum brakes...

i've always found that its ALOT easier to build muscle out of fat. Maybe not 50 pounds over weight style but if u want to be bulkier and your a stick its alot easier to build it off of fat rather that off of nothing.

you guys just wanna flame him on every post he makes, if your wrong or not

Just because your muscled up dont mean you can fight.

If you wanna be in good shape eat right, dont drink soda, run when you wake up.

Also jumping roap is great for you. Lifting and all that fun stuff is good to. Or swimming laps.

Just stick the friendly looking needle in your butt and you are all set.

Anyways, if you dont have many weights or anything, start off with push ups, pull ups and sit ups until you can invest in some weights.  Or you could look into a gym membership.

I gave up soda and in a week I lost 5lbs. Its really weird because I used to crave it like you said and now I dont. Plus I save money that I'm supposed to use for lunch at school. Yeah $15 extra a week.
