I know most of you, or I hope most of you seen this. But you might have a bad sear spring. It is more likely to occur in a marker that has a r/t or e-grip from the factory. But it still could happen to a stock trigger model! Check your serial number! Please read the news section on Tippmann's home page. I have posted many threads regarding the r/t and the bad sear spring. But I want to make sure that before you all start thinking you need to buy upgrades to get the full effect of the r/t, you have checked on this. Also if all of sudden your having problems after the install. You need to read about this update. I know many of you have seen me post this but, when I went to install my r/t I noticed that it came with a new sear spring that the instructions said must be installed. I called Tippmann to see if I should install the spring with the kit or the one for the service update. I was told to use the spring for the update. Not the one in the kit! Check into this if you are having weird problems with your marker. I'm not saying this is the cause of your problems but I want all of you to have checked this out first. I have put over 2000 (wally world) paint ball's in mine and have yet to break one! 1000 of them are with plain co2 tank, r/t , and the updated spring! Gotta love a Tippmann!!!

Its not a bad seer spring. I actually called Tippmann just yesterday about my "Burping 98c" and found out that the seer itself also needs replaced. According to the guy on the phone, the seer they have w/ the gun would not function properly very soon after getting an R/T because of wear AND you need a stronger spring. I haven't gotten them yet, but I'm assuming the new seer has some kind of plate on the back, or is a tad longer.

When I called Tippmann and told them I have not yet had a problem with mine (stock trigger). He then told me I would just need the preventative kit. It came with a new rear bolt o-ring (Red) and the new sear spring. I also informed him my r/t was on the way and all he said was install the new o-ring and spring when I install the r/t and I should be set! When I called back about using the spring in the r/t kit or the one they sent. He asked me if the one in the kit was blue in color? I told him no, and he said to be safe use the one we sent you. If you look at your manual the sear spring is refered to as blue in color. The one I took out of my gun had a blue finish to it. I will call tommorow about the sear itself.

I just read about the update in the news section again. They say: The SPRING will cause the bolt AND sear to wear premature. Nothing about the sear being the cause of any problems. It only goes bad if the SPRING is not in spec. I think he was telling you that your sear needs to be replaced because your gun is now burping. Which means your sear is worn from useing the r/t with the out of spec spring. Like the one's that left the factory with the r/t installed. I'm gonna go out on a limb but I would guess that the new sear they sent looks the same as the one in your gun now except not worn. I never shot my 98 without the r/t and new spring installed together. No problems yet. like I said 1000 wally world balls and still throwing ropes of paint.

O.K. I called Tippmann today. If you never had a problem with your 98 and it is one of the guns affected then all they will send is the preventative kit (o-ring and new sear spring). If your marker does have a problem then you get a new rear bolt,sear,o-ring,and the new spring. The bolt and sear are not any different than the one that came in your gun from the factory. They are just new parts to replace the worn out ones you have because of damage caused by the bad sear spring.
