Subject: Bolt-Action 98 custom

I have an idea of buying a used, POS 98 custom, and converting it to bolt-action. Basically the gun will work like an old WWI or WWII bolt-action rifle, where you pull a lever back, a round will fall into the chamber, you push the lever forward again, shoot, and repeat. i should be able to take out the linkage arm and somehow rig the front bolt up to the new lever that will be located on the outside of the gun. i'd also cut off the front grip, and make this gun into a WWI mil-sim gun, more for show and looks than actually playing with it....

now here's my question: will i be able to mill into the reciever half (the side with the loading port), to hook up an arm for the cocking lever, or will that cause the gun to leak air? any comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

Umm. not sure where the lever would go, cause the feed elbow is right where the bolt is.

You could mill anywhere around there and it would be ok as long as you dont hit the barrel threading.

Why would you want a bolt-action 98? Just for looks? Or the right to say "Guess what? I gotta bolt-action paintball gun"

i was planning on attaching the cocking lever to the rear of the bolt, so that it doesn't interfere with the feeder elbow.
i just wanted to make sure that if i cut into the side of the reciever, it won't leak air anywhere.

and as far as the point of this project, it's just like I said above: it's mainly for looks, and it'll give me a little side project to work on over the winter. i don't plan on actually shooting it, save for a few times outside in my yard...

why would you take out the linkage arm? even if you did that and did the out side lever. you still have to find a way to pull back the hammer. Id just make an over the top/or under lever that goes to the cocking handle (and take the oring off the hammer)

the hammer will go back to cocked position regardless. i don't want the front bolt to go back until i pull the lever back, so that's why i'd take out the linkage arm....

um..... oh yea..thats cool.

how about just making a new linkage arm. one thats still attached to the front bolt but then attached to your cocking lever on the side. it will not hurt the gun if you cut into the top of the reciever to get to the linkage arm.

actually, that's a really good idea. i was tossing around ideas on how to mount the cocking lever to the bolt, but i might incorporate the linkage arm (or a piece of it) into the cocking lever. but i definitely want it coming out of the side of the gun, not the top.
