Wrong. Ps3 is going to be a flop. It's debut can not keep up with the Wii. $599 is absurd for a console. Wii may not have the claim over graphics but it wins in every other aspect. Cost, design, games, innovativeness, efficiency. Stats does not a console make. -------------

HAH! That's quite possibly the funniest statement I have ever heard among the many statements on Console War. PS3 is more powerful in all aspects, that's a given. However if the power cpu and gpu crash all the time, and whenever they are about to be released, somehow have a problem, I'm not seeing this "Pwnage" over the 360 and Wii. Sony is trying something that will either make them the GOD in media, or the hobo of it. PS3 has had SO many bad things gone wrong with it, and everytime Sony is about to release it they so "Uh...it's going to be a few more months.. but we've added we will be adding THESE features which we got from the Wii and 360 to it so be happy!!!!!" Sony is basically trying to make the PS3 a computer, however a "super-computer" is what they are aiming for. Blu-Ray is a laugh too, sure it holds 20 or so gb if not more, but who's going to pay $90 or more for a ten-pack when you can use DVD or HDDVD? It's very stupid to say the PS3 will kill all when Sony is basically, stealing all ideas, pauseing, resumeing, pauseing, adding more features stolen from other consoles, and then telling the gaming community "Oh... we are having problems.. just wait another month it'll be out!" And NOW the big annoyance. Everyone was expecting to get a PS3 this year (Everyone who is actually stupid enough to buy it at Launch and USE it (Not ebay it for 3x the value) Well, suprise, only 400,000 units will be shipped to the entire U.S.....fat chance on gettin' one eh?. Don't compare specs because they don't matter if the system dosen't run correctly, and besides, most game developers are already HATING the PS3 because of how hard it is to actually develop games on it! More than 75% of their "Exclusive" titles are now coming to the 360 because game devs say it's so much easier to produce games on the 360. End statement is this. "Stop saying the PS3 is the most powerful, it dosen't matter if it constantly crashes, or something fries, or it dosen't start up. And stop saying it's more powerful than the Wii.. the Wii is not based on power, it's completly based on FEATURES, Nintendo was smart and didn't try to throw in OMGZ SO POWERFUL cpus and gpus, they are doing basic, they are simply doing what they are known for, making the most reliable, fun, and most innovative system out. Given, since Wii is being released before PS3.. PS3 might hold back a little longer, while Sony attempts to implement all the features that the Wii has. And 360 main strong-point is it's "Xbox Live". Sony has yet to prove that they know anything about online gaming, the PS2's online interface and game lobbys were a complete joke compared to the Xbox's. Wait, see, then discuss. ...Ricwhic what does that even mean? Revolution is the Wii which is $250... and the PS3 is $500-600, which as we all know, isn't worth it right now. Also, unlike the 360, if you buy the cheaper PS3 package, you loose one component forever.. HDMI, they basically took the port completly off of the system in the low cost package, where on the $600 one, the port is still in the system.. wow........ You honestly think that whoever can pack the most pixels into a game...will be the best? Just cause it looks good, doesnt mean its fun/ enjoyable. Sure, I was super stoked for the PS3 when it was announced/ demos were shown....but holy crap, could they have messed it up anymore? Forcing blu-ray already when the market hasnt fully switched over? They want to avoid a lawsuit, so they take out the rumble feature of the controller. Then they steal straight from nintendo and toss in motion sensing? There have been so many delays and broken promises, the majority of gamers either hate the ps3, or just dont care. It launches two days before the wii, and normally I'd be conflicted, but I'm not. It's Wii all the way for me. The people who can afford to throw $600 into a console, dont need the "features" that sony is offering. People dont want a new all in one home theatre. They want a good, fun, affordable console. Now where could I find one of those..... oh wait Wii |

Meh, I'll actually agree with Choopie, the Wii is of course, the most affordable, and feature rich console coming out.. given that the 360 is more powerful and has a nice online gaming setup... but for most family's, the Wii will def fit the bill, the PS3 really has no place... and if it fails.. sony will fail, sony is on an EXTREMLY tight budget right now as well.

| xbox360 was a let down to me. Now I know it will get better as the developers truely learn how to utilize its power, and all 6 cores, but upon launch I was greatly disapointed. The only difference I saw graphically was on shiny metal on occasion. HL2 on PC still rocked its socks visually. I do really like how xbox live is designed. Sony keeps crapping the bed on that one. |

i stood around in an EB Games yesterday and held a conversation with the chick behind the counter for well over an hour. discussion roamed from the Wii, of course, to companies, ps3, xbox360, and eventually pc gaming and further digression from teh original point ending in mp3 players. turns out that about a week ago they got to attend some conference and played with the Zune. she seemed thoroughly impressed with it and offered some valuable insight into the player. what caught my attention was microsoft's attempt at taking more of your money. you can send someone a picture, and they keep it for however long they want, send them a song and they can listen to it a max of 3 times over a period of three days before they have to purchase it if they wanna keep it. turns out you can use points from xbox live(i think i understood how it works) to buy music. so you can go to eb games, pay them for points, and download stuff. (itunes music store ripoff, i know) completely off topic, but not a great start for microsoft's entry into the mp3 player market. -------------

Wow....that really sucks.. I hope they do include atleast one way to put in your OWN MP3's so that you aren't forced to pay ten cents to listen to a song for three days...noone is going to buy it if they do that.

A few points. - Because they did it is not a valid argument. Anybody who claims graphics are the number one priority are idiots. - Ps2 did not have the best games. Slightly better than Xbox, yes, but nowhere near good. Tons of rehashed WW2 shooters get old fast. - $599 is idiotic for a console. Sony is asking for a flop. People can pay that much and get a PC, and have selections of better games for cheaper, and play in a better online setting. I fail to see how Ps3 can be anything but a total failure. Sure, less than intelligent people who have brand loyalty will jump all over it, but after then I see it drowning out into the land of flop, just like the PSP. -------------

psp only fits for certain people.... i had one i thought it was good but i went to college thought i would get nothing done... so i sold it... i was very unhappy with teh games that they first came out with more and more people are buying the psp now... i used to work for best buy in this area and thanksgiving last year i sold probably 200 psp's myself... i think the wii is a really good system... i just feel like the 360 is such a peace of crap... i how people had teh system for about 2 hours and the 360's had already broken... can someone say rushed

I'm reserving my judgement until all the consoles are out and I have had the opportunity to test each one and to look at the game selection. I'm a fan of all three of the old consoles. I thought the Gamecube had better, more creative, more fun games than the PS2. And PC is better all around. Better gameplay, better online, better choice, better everything. The point is I can make a PC better, and improve with trends. A console is stuck with what it has. -------------

Ok...PSP has very few games...that is what kills out. WOW! We have our mp3s and videos on a handheld game system! But we can only go up to 4gb with SD mem cards! WOOHOO!!!!! I had a PSP for about a year, traded it in for the DS Lite, and have not regretted it.. better games, better controls, no loading times. As of right now, Gameboy's in general, including the DS, have destroyed the PSP. Why do you think the games are so limited? Sony's main focus is the PS3, and they have already blown tons of money into it so the PSP is.... well, not thier main concern. You could browse the internet on the PSP from the day of release. Wipeout (launch game) had a hidden browser feature. So that's not impressive at all.

Most intelligent post in this whole thread. Right now the Wii is so hyped up, and the PS3 is getting so much crap, that if the Wii has some problems and the PS3 turns out being decent, I could see the PS3 doing really well (maybe after a price cut  ).I'm also going to wait and see. |

psp is to much of a nitch buy... if you travel alot you would love it... i no when i went to colorado i got stuck in the air for a couple hours and i was glad to have it... the movies are really good on it too... o course the ds would out sell the psp thats stupid of sony to even think they could... i just like how sony is actually putting an effort into the ps3 to make it the next lastest and greatest thing to come out... theres tons of features in there that probably are not necessary but they wanted to wow people on what they could do... no matter what anyone says you can not say microsoft put out the best product that they could... they rushed it out so fast game developers had do cut out so much of the games to even have a game out for the release... i have yet to see any reason to buy the 360 im excited to see teh wii but the wii could flop based on release games... same as mostly an system now... if you dont have games to back it there is no reason to buy the system

im actually considering a DS lite, the games are usually pretty sweet, but psp does have some pretty sweet titles, it really depends on three things, the price, what you want it for, and what kind of games you enjoy, and unless everybody agrees with that, the battles will never end. Personally I enjoy metal gear solid, need for speed, etc on the PSP, but I really love the mario games on DS |

Yeah, except every person who has demo'd it yet loves the launch games. Wii sports alone is making people pee themselves in anticipation, and graphically, it's pretty basic. Heck, red steel? I cant wait to try out sword fighting with it. |

It's too early, its stupid. The entire consumer market hasn't even switched to DVD yet, and is no-where near transitioned to HDTV. Sony is trying (poorly) to force the switch to blu-ray far before the markey is ready. Yeah, the blu-ray drive standalone is really pricey....so how much cheaper would the ps3 be without it? How many people would prefer that over the few who are all "zomg blu-ray" |

what does it matter if the public has switched to hd or not... you can play it with out hd and you will still see a big difference over the 360.. the switch will happen to blue ray sooner or later... blue ray will be expandable up to 50G... even without blue ray ps3 is still much better machine then 360... and whoever said that the lower priced one doesnt have hdmi... it does just to let you know ------------- Tuesday starts the weekend... Eh. I love shoot-em ups and multiplayer games. So far X-Box is the best for those games, so I am going to go for the 360 before I get any of those. Nintendo is always too kidish for me, but I love Super Smash Bros. The PS3 I probably won't ever buy. It doesn't have any games that X-Box 360 won't that is really that great. -------------

The switch will more than likely not come about until the PS3 has flopped. The switch may happen, but it wont be quick enough for it to be of any use on the PS3, and the PS3 will not be of any use unless they get some beyond kick ass games that come out only for the console. -------------

i dont understand what the point of the public switching is did people have to "switch" for sega to psone... ya they are using new disks blu ray is basically is a dvd that can store more information... what is the need to switch... are you telling me that i have to get some crazy cool thing to play my ps3... no if you plug in a ps3 and xbox 360 and wii to the same tv you will see that the ps3 is better graphically thats step one to being a good system... now games i have no idea where people come up with xbox had better games, thats right because it didnt everygame on xbox comes out on pc which my pc runs better then an xbox so that shows me the xbox didnt do anythign to make the 360 better then it could have been.... game systems should WOW you as in i didnt even no they could do something that cool... thats what the wii and ps3 have that wow factor ------------- Tuesday starts the weekend... The wow factor wears off after an hour of gameplay. The fun factor may wear off after a few weeks, months, or years, depending on just how good the game is. In the long run, it's gonna be the fun factor that will sell the most consoles and games, and make a system "successful." |

You will not see a difference between a DVD movie and a Blu-Ray movie unless you have an HD-TV, and even then it's not that big of a difference. About graphics in games, yeah, good graphics do not a good game make. |

So you're an idiot then? Why would you fight that "zomg blu-ray pwns!!" then go "NO, dont play movies on it!" So...put the pretty hardware in, jack the price up.....just dont use it! As for "seeing a big difference" over the 360? Thats no great feat...the 360 is dissapointing graphically so far. I know it will get better as developers utilize the system more and more...but as is, it doesnt even come close to a pile of PC games. And the whole issue of the public "switching" has nothing to do with switching consoles. I dont care that the gamecube uses its own discs, and that the n64 uses cartridges, etc. I dont, hardly anyone else does either. But trying to force the public already to change their DVD collection to Blu-ray, and their TV to HD, for a small difference....its a bit rediculous. Heck, people were up in arms about the 360 being HD manditory. The graphics are worse if you dont have HD....thats stupid. |

The PS2 isnt going to exactly be a walk in the park for developers either. By the sounds of it, writing games to work on the PS3's "cell" is a bit rediculous, and takes twice as long.

Then why would Sony and Microsoft advertise their systems as being able to play movies, and include the capabilities to do so? And how is reading a movie any different than reading a game disc for the console? I know plenty of people who use their Xboxs, 360s, and PS2s to watch movies and I haven't heard of any problems.
My roommate, as well as the kid next door both have 360s. Both power-packs are sitting on the ground, and neither have had problems. I don't know about the standing up thing, but I'm guessing that's BS too. You should generalize and make huge blanket statements when something goes wrong with a small percentage of products... n00b. |

actually the 360 is the first system in a while that has actually gained money off the system sales alone... companys make money of games sales and accessories not the system... and yes i do believe that the 360 will beat the wii but only because the when people think of nintendo they think of little kids games... most people will probably buy the 360 more then the wii and ps3... price and games mainly... thats says nothing about what system is better tho

I claim not to be divided nor biased towards any of the consoles' manufacturers simply because I own both companies' stuff. I don't mind about the price tag because give it time and the price will drop. A PS3 for $600- maybe it'll transform into an Autobot. Blu-ray; internet, blah blah blah. Maybe I am paying for features I will not need but I am satisfied with the reasons for which I am buying the systems- the games. I'm more loyal to the titles/ games that come out. The Playstation has Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid. I love Halo and other Xbox exclusive games so I own an Xbox. Yet I'm a Zelda fan to the bone, so I'm still looking to own whatever Nintendo will dish out for the new Zelda titles (as long as all my favorite games/series are being produced). Of course I do not exlcude my beloved PC. Whether the PS3 flops or not during its debut; or X360 has had a holiday season to it own already; or the Wii remains the family-friendly console, my heart and attention and money will go towards what the consoles are for- gaming. ------------- Mahirap ng maging pogi... |

Not to get nitpicky, but... If you are going to quote financials, you could at least have gotten the most recent ones. Microsoft's fiscal year ends July 31, and their Q4/yearend financials have been out for a while. And you should also read your own link. We all know that MS makes buckets of money - the real question is WHERE.
You will note the word "loss" a few times in there. Microsoft currently loses money on their gaming business - not just on XBox sales, but the whole unit. |
