LOL! Everyone is all worried because Korea just got to fire a nuke? Something tells me they aren't stupid enough to fire it at any other country, besides, nukes can't travel that far. Stop worrying. The only way they would be able to get us would be either have a VERY BIG plane (don't they could even make the trip ) and drop it on us, or transport it behind our backs into our country and bam.. and Korea just isn't that stupid. You peeps should be worrying about China, they have more people than us, and their ARMY is VERY powerful, and their technology well....let's just say they always seem to be a step ahead of us.

are you retarded?
The US has always been ahead of the Chinese in technology. They get their technology by stealing it from the US. Their Army is huge, but not as powerful as you think. We could still beat them. Although with troops in Iraq, China would be a little more trouble to beat. It would also be suicide economically for China to fight the US and vice versa.
EDIT: I failed to mention that they also have missiles if they get them to work properly, that are capable of hitting as far as Maine I believe but not Florida and some southern states.

Does that really matter? The fact is, if a little country fired a nuke at us, and we fired one back without consulting the other countries world-wide leaders\board, we would be in deep crap, and China would not be "EASY" to beat at all. You need to understand, this is NUCLEAR war, not send in infantry (which I assume you are\were). Sigh,
Revo, a "nuke" is a bomb. It is a detonation device. It blows up. It does not fly. Missiles fly. Bomb goes on the missile.
Also,
North Korea would not attack China. If they did, China could retaliate with more than Pyongyang's could even think of ever returning.

1 nuke doesnt crumble a country look at japan it took 2 and their pretty small of a country. if a country is full of enough crazy's its gonna take a few. and also nukes can pretty much travel around the world. havent you learned anything about the coldwar. they shoot up almost to orbit then fall at the right projectory(sp) hitting a target very far away. if russia shared any of its secrets even just one crazy scientist we got problems.

Not all missles operate in this manner. That type of technology relies on complicated/expensive guidance system which, I'm willing to bet, N. Korea has not acquired. But, who knows? I'm too worried yet. More importantly, these guys are crazy... they detonated that thing underground near a populated city... their own city. If something went wrong do you any idea how many people could have died... it wasn't a big bomb but still...

Not to mention, the bombs we (being the USA) use now are staggeringly larger and more destructive than the ones we used on Japan in 1945.
According to the best reports currently, the bomb Korea tested was under the amount of power that the ones we used in 1945 were. The problem is that expansion from that point on is an easier path than getting to that point.
It only gets worse from here.

You have EASY in quotes. I dont recall saying conquering China would be "EASY". I am Infantry. We could conquer North Korea with limited Problems. I also dont see the US ever being on its own. Do you honestly think Britain, Australia, and Poland would side with another nation in war against us? Even France would side with us. Not that they would be much of a help but they probably would. So No. I dont see any nation that is a current ally attacking us if we were in WW3. Reinstate the draft and we could stop any force.

I think his point is that we would still win the war. If we reinstated the draft, most people who hate it, but the army would still become much stronger.
I don't think we have too much to worry about with N.K.. There are too many countries that would fight against N.K.. If they used a nuke on any country, it would pretty much be suicide.

Mateo, we used the A-Bomb, not the H-Bomb...H-Bomb is much more powerful, and that is what we would use today. A = Atom H = Hydrogen. A-Bomb is = 500,000 tons of TNT H-Bomb is = 50 million tons (megatons) of TNT Compare, debate, continue.

They aren't all that size. Atomic bombs measure anywhere between less than one ton through 500,000 tons of TNT (equivalent).
Hydrogen bombs can deliver up to and beyond 50,000,000 tons of TNT, but almost none are actually that big. The largest ever detonated was Tsar Bomba, equivalent to about 50 megatons.

Yes, however he was simply comparing the destruction of an A-Bomb, such as the "Little Boy" that was used on Hiroshima, Japan. Any hydrogen bomb would have been atleast 3x or move devastating. However, I also believe, nuclear weapons are out of date. The latest craze in military weapons are Biological. You can even create virus's that take go for a certain strain in DNA. For example, you could unleash the virus in N.Y.C. it would infect all civilians, but only kill black people. Given, to make a virus like that it takes time.. but it can be done.

Biological is third fiddle to the other "WMD's."
Not as quick, hard to keep contained, easy to accidentally spread to allies and your own self.
Good for terrorists and all that, but bad for practical warfare.
Plus the BWC makes developing it kinda hard.

Dosen't defy the fact that the U.S. right now is trying to master bio weapons. It's a much more.... "silent" weapon compared to nuclear weapons. Basically as of right now, here is what your money is going to if you are talking about weapons. 1. Bio-Warfare 2. Chem-Warfare 3. Nuclear-Warfare. That's just how it is now. The bad thing is how dangerous each of these weapon sections really are... Biological weapons can be the most deadly, since they can spread like the plague and virus's can mutate to avoid "cure". Anyway, this was on Korea finally having a test so I'll just say, stop worrying. Korea is not going to attack the U.S. anytime soon.

This thread is full of retardedness, but most of it seems to have been guested out of existance.
North Korean missle tech still is not advanced enough to hit (most of) the US. They could still hit US military targets in Japan and elsewhere in the Pacific. As for Darur Hawaii is about the last state I'd want to be in if NK wanted to nuke us. It's the only thing they have a reasonable chance of hitting, and stategically important for the pacfic fleet.
According to the reports, the bomb they detonated was in the 1kiloton range. Much smaller than the bombs used in WWII. Probably a very crude gun type device and not implosion type. I'm not saying this isn't bad, but we still have time before a military strike isn't feasable due to horrible (nuclear)retaliation.
Somehow blaming the US for this is just wrong. Kim Jung Ill is undeniably an asshat, he was working on this stuff long before Bush was elected, and if anything, we've been too limp-wristed in our approach to dealing with them. I'm all for the purposed UN responce including the limited blockade. Sure, it's provocative, but since they want to play with the big boys and we know they're nuclear capable, we can just tell them that any missle/shell they launch at SK will be assumed to be a nuclear device and immediate devistating retaliation in the form of turning Pyongyang into an inferno will result. If they want to up the stakes, it works against them too.
I think they've really gone too far this time, and I don't even think china would veto sanctions now. They publicly embarassed China by defying them. China is trying to step into the superpower position, not being able to reign in NK is bad for them. I don't thik they'll vote in favor of sanctions, but now they may just abstain from the vote.
Revo, you're probably still trying to create a new account and haven't got the piture yet, so I'll actually respond to you. If NK were to somehow nuke us, we wouldn't need to "ask permission" to retaliate. Defending against agression is protected by the UN charter. I've heard of talking out your butt, but how you manage to type with yours is beyond me.

Oh no, this is another real problem Bosh refuses to deal with at all. I swear to fsm, I do not understand where the hell they get their logic....NK has nukes, openly hostile to their neighbors and allies, and runs their country like a giant concentration camp....Bosh lets China deal with it and wont even talk to them. Iran (probably) wants nukes and doesn't give a crap what anybody says, has just reaped the benefits of the WoT and expanded their geopolitical power exponentially, and has been directing it's terrorist proxies to attack us and our allies in the area.....Bosh get's mad and clams shut here too. Iraq MIGHT have WMDs, invaded their neighbor 12 years ago when they were powerful, and did some relatively minor screwed up stuff to the minorities in their country....Bosh invades them on false pretences and completely handicaps our ability to deal with the other bad crap that's goin on in the world, should he ever get forced into doing something that makes since like that.....Is it any wonder why the world sees us as stupid, stuck up, and power hungry? We act like it! 'Course, we're too far up on our high horse to notice anything like that....Or rather, the current administration is....
That explosion= yet another failure of the Republican Regime.

A bad negotiation can do a lot of harm as well. The trick really is to speak softly and carry a big stick. Bush Spoke loudly and then hit someone else in the face with the stick, but got it stuck in their skull and shut up after that.
What's up with democrats calling for us to pull out of iraq and invade everyone else? (Sudan, NK, Iran ect?)
PS: Is there's a reason you keep typing bosh instead of bush or <poopy>

as i have said before, in the next presidential election i will vote for whoever proves they can solve the problems. hell if they manage to fix them and turn it around to progress, that would be wonderful, just don't make them worse or create more.
basically the ideal candidate, which we know doesn't exist.

Red, but what we have been doing since Clinton left really doesn't work. In reality, not just in the world of the annecdote. We've been hurting them, we've been being tuff. We draw a line in the sand, then we back up. The only way this tough act is going to work is if we're actually going to back it up...militarily. Which we can't now. If we'd go back to the logical way of doing things, we would be speaking softly and carrying a big stick. Carrot and stick tactics do work. We say, "we'll give you security assurences, food, money, whatever and you lose the nukes and stop being an ass". There is still an implied "or we'll stomp you" there.
And the Dems have been saying stuff like that because we tend to believe in using the military for things that make sense...(ie. stoping crazy nuke guy, stopping genocide, ect)
Oh and the Bosh thing is just something I picked up a while back. It means "dirt" in farsi or something.....

| Let's hope he doesn't sell them. You could worry about that. | yea N. korea is a country hungry for money (not that theyd use that money to help their own people) but anyway kim is enough of a maniac to sell technology to terrorist groups in order to up his power. Also N. korea's only major money making exports are missiles and opium.

Some are reporting today that N. Korea may have faked the nuke blast by stuffing a hillside with couple of tons of TNT...
Edit: One http://abc.net.au/science/news/stories/2006/1759541.htm - link I've found suggesting that NK lit off a whole lotta dynamite, instead of a nuke..

Wouldn't surprise me. It's kinda hard to get that small of a nuclear explosion. As far as I know non of the "sniffer planes" have detected radiation. Either they packed a hill full of TNT to fake it, or tried to make an implosion device with plutonium and it fizzled. Either way their nukes work about as well as their long range missles.

Current estimates are between a 2-12Kt nominal yield. That supports either a very primitive 'gun' device, or perhaps a fizzled implosion. The Sum Of All Fears, anyone?
If they DID fake it, that would have required such a massive amount of high explosive that I'm sure someone would have noticed. Then again, it could have been imported slowly over years, so I could easily be wrong.
We have to assume that N.K. has nukes, and deal with them appropriately. I'm just not sure yet what that entails- but best to err on the side of caution.
