I have two 98 customs with expansion chambers on them. solid guns i love them. but im looking for something more compact. i have always been a fan of smart parts and always been looking at the shockers. but i see alot of people here with IONS. my question is, for such a cheap gun, is it good? i mean, how well does it work, is it easily upgraded. i am looking for something around the 300 price tag, and the ion seems to fit the bill, but i dont know much about them. so any tips? also what about the impulses and promasters. i hear alot about them, but i dont know much of them. any info is much appreciated. |

Okay. Shockers suck. Just getting that one in the open. Now, Ions, they are okay for the price but by the time you out all your up on the Ion you could have bought a better marker, and the resale on Ions are really bad. The Promaster is better than the Ion stock but no promaster can be a fully upped Ion. The impulse re out-dated, they had their reign but its over for them.
Now, if you wait one more month, the Proto Rail is supposed to be releasd which is supposed to be the best buy for under $300. Also all the previous model markers will drop in price so more markers will be in your range that weren't before. If you simply cannot wait, look into DM3s (Generation E Matrix) or maybe a Viking. If you score the forums you might even find a steal. There was a E1 Nexus for $300 on ebay but that auction ended. -------------

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with most of the stuff jerseypaint
said; I've loved my Shockers (and I've had a large number of them...),
and they never gave me any problems. Light and fast, but not the most
efficient, even with an HE bolt. I'm currently shooting Nerves, which
use the same frame/electronics as the Shocker, but with much greater
efficiency and a little more consistancy due to the LPR. Now, to give any advice, one has to ask; do you already have HPA? A fast loader (Egg, Halo, or vLocity)? You can find a used Ion or Promaster for 100-125, a 4500psi tank for 100ish, and a Halo for 50, which puts you at about your 300 marker. Both are nice little markers that won't give you problems if you take care of them properly. -------------

dont worry i know paintball. just i dont know every gun and maker. i know the main ones, bob long, dye, smart parts. . . . . but uhh, the whole point is for me to get into electronic markers. but what u guys think of the low pressure system for the 98 customs (non ACT) and the response trigger. ive been looking at both for a while now and i may just go with those instead of a new gun |

| hopefully by december 1 i will be able to get the promaster unless i find a better deal on something better. i dont feel the need to get it now seeing the only field open right now just closed its outdoor speedball course and only has its woodz open. come december 1 their new indoor speedball field will be open. untill then, i will make do with my tipp in the woods. i hate having such a crappy gun for the woods. =] |

woo hoo the inevidable happend today. my trucks driveshaft fell out while driving a friend home. so hopefully it wont cost to much for the part to fix it. if its a big dent, then it will be a tad longer till i get my new gun oh and yeah i know about the dm4 prolly dropping price and all that, but for now im set with my decision. unless a better deal strikes. we shall see. thanks for all the help guys/girls |

What does that have to do with the Shocker sucking and the Ion being good for the price? I never said the Ion didn't suck but the Ion doesn't go for around the same price as a Minion or PM6. Better spool-valve markers than the shocker. Now the Shocker NXTs are released and basically, they ashamed all older versions, so my view has since changed. Only to the fact they have an HE bolt and Break Beam eyes. -------------

Aye...moronic ye be again! Shocker be a advanced version of te Ion! The older versions be before the Ion! So of course the Ion would have more advanced features. Shocker is an Ion, just a more advanced version now. The one you just compared (very old Shockers)... that's like comparing a Talon to an Angel 1. Knowing people like you when the NEW Ion is released you will say the Shocker NXT sucks. You have, an A-5. Not a Shocker, go home.

Okay. I guess I have to spell this out. The 2006 Shockers suck. The Ion is a great deal because of the price and the perforance you get (but you do get what you pay for). Now, the Shocker NXTs are much better because they come stock with HE bolt and now have Break Beam eyes. Before they had Bounce Beam eyes and had horrible efficiency. Now with the new upgrades then can actually compete with markers in their price range, not just get ashamed by them. I'm not going by date, I'm going by upgrades. And I might have an A-5 but I'm not ignorant nor dumb. -------------

Aye. I have shot a Shocker and an Ion. I will stand by this statement that I am making. The Shocker IS more accurate, and more efficent, out of the package. I don't know anyone besides ye, that actually agrees that the Ion is better than the Shocker. Don't get me wrong, I love the Ion.. but I would take the Shocker over it anyday. People seem to forget.. the Ion's design was taken directly from the Shocker.

ITS A GREAT DEAL, not a great marker. No doubt the Shocker is better. But for the price it is not. I'm saying the Shocker was not good for the price. For the same price you could have gotten something better such as a PM6, DM5 or a Minion. Which are markers that are also spool, but alot better. -------------

Aye, I thought you were stateing that the Shocker wasn't as good as an Ion. And yes, DM5 and PM6's are all good, but we are talking Smart Parts... if you want to go into other guns.. heck...of course there are better buys. If I could go back, before I bought my A-5 and pimped it out.. I would have most assurely gotten an Ion. Because I would have had so much extra money, that I could up it to it's max potential (as I have done with my A-5). Most of Smart Parts guns are over-priced...that's a given, the only one that isn't is the Ion... I wasn't argueing price, I was argueing performance, we were both on two different pages.
