I ought to have all my colleges selected and such, and sending in my application soon. But I honestly don't know where I want to go. I mean, I'm considering SFU, and Pratt, but, I dunno.
Pretty much everyone else in Hood River is going to go to U of O.

Ahhh! don't do it! You'll flush down the toilet a lot of the "fun" aspects of college.
I did ROTC (enjoyed it) still got my comission, got my branch and still got to live very "free" life during my college years.
My good friend did westpoint for 2 years left and then did ROTC at the University of Utah for his last 2 and had a great time. He wishes he did regular ROTC (if you wanna do the military thing) from a regular college from the get go.
if your squared away your going to do well in the military regarldess of what school you come from.
If the prestige of westpoint is what your after then by all means. But by in large that's a big price to pay for something that in my experience fades quickly.
Just my 2 bits :)

im stilll not sure what i want yet, but regardless, ive got two years to think, and it will lead me into the army. The college they went to probably weighted the grades for them. but the way my school sees it, if you have taken all honors/AP classes and got a 3.9, and someone else took all on-level classes and has a 4.0, the 4.0 student is ranked above the 3.9. last year, we had 14 valedictorians. the year before was even worse, we had 23 valedictorians.

The person with the 4.0 may be ranked above them, but no college would honestly choose them over the AP/honors student with 3.9. It isn't fair to compare somebody who is making a B in an AP class to a person in a regular class making an A.

a lot of scholarships are based on rank, top 10% top 15%, etc. so if my school would weight grades, people who deserve the scholarships would be ranked above the people who got by with the minimum that are getting the scholarships.

Realizing that you were just discussing GPAs, but it is important to remember that the GPA is only one factor in deciding admission. This is particularly true at top schools that routinely have their choice of applicants with outstanding grades.
SAT/ACT scores are tremendously important, but so are resume items. A lot of people will have similar GPAs and test scores - the applicant with a different resume will have a distinct advantage.

My bro recently graduated from UCLA; I currently go there; my sister started the '06-'07 year here too.
My advice for applying to UCLA: Of course the good test scores on both SATs. Extracurricular activities is always good. Help as man li'l old ladies as you can!!! During your junior and senior years in high school, take as many advanced placement classes as you can and average a 4-5 on the tests. If you can have your principal write a letter of recommendation for you. My principal's LoR really pulled a lot of weight for my admittance to UCLA. As for your essay/letter of intent, you need to make yourself shine; no doubt all the people applying will be overachievers or insanely bright students. Make an impression.
GPA isn't everything. My friend didn't have a stellar GPA and still was admitted here. Why? He had other stuff in his application to compensate for his GPA which impressed the admittance people.
I wish you the best! GO BRUINS!!!

Aerospace is finally getting tough, I'm actually having to work my ass off... Junior by christmas.
| I'm not sure. Are you going to the AU/UF game this weekend? |
Hell yes I'll be there. Worried about it though. I almost threw up after last weeks game, and not because of alcohol. |
That'll be a hell of a game. Hopefully I can get out of game day traffic in T-Town so I can get somewhere to watch it.

Applied to Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and Purdue. Denied at UIUC, so I'm going to Purdue for Mechanical Engineering.

Ditto with UF.
I had a 4.0. One of my friends had a 4.2. Three of my friends had a 4.5.
None got accepted. It is pretty crazy. I am going to UCF for two years and transferring into to UF later.
|
I've seen you mention how difficult it is to get into UF, but 6 people from my school in the last two years (avg. class size about 25) got in no problem. I know for a fact one of them had below a 4.0, and one other got accepted to UF but rejected from UGA. I have no doubt UF is a good school, but I just don't see why you think it so incredibly difficult. Enlighten me please.

I got into UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Charlotte, ECU, and Appalachian State, which are the only places I've applied.
I'm probably going to App. to play football, unless one of the Div-3 schools can give me more than half of my tuition through academic scholarships.
PS- We better get one of the little new to college guides from Mbro and Choop like the rising freshies did last year.

Only College I've heard back from so far is http://www.Linfield.edu - Linfield , where I was accepted with a $12,800 per year scholarship. Supposedly it's one of the hardest schools in the Northwest for admissions (Reed is #1).
Funny story, 20 minutes before Linfield called to tell me I was accepted, Willamette university called. The admissions counselor who was reading my application wanted to ask about my math grades, which in junior year went from an A first semester, to an F second semester. I was able to explain it, and we ended up talking for like 15 minutes.

Schools that have expressed interest in me: SMU, Spring Hill College, The University of Chicago, Mercer University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Rochester, NYU, and Miami (Fl.) is almost harrassing me, they send 3-4 emails, one letter, and maybe a phone call a week, and it's getting on my nerves.

Ahh, man, I guess since you told me that I can't accept the offer to UM's or UNC's early entry program, because they really don't mean it when they ask me to.
I've had four siblings go to college before me, I know what they mean.
