My son has been having problems with his a-5 when using a remote line. It will shoot fine a couple times and then it will mifire and sputter. On another forum they said to drill the hole in the ASA a little bigger that it is to close to the thread side. This makes sense since if we use the remote on any other gun it works fine and if you look at them the hole is closer to the nipple.

has anyone heard or done this? will it affect anything when just using a tank instead of a remote? We are using CO2

As long as you dont drill out the little bump that's in the ASA then it should be fine.

Although I've never heard this problem before. What kind of remote is it?

Have you tried attaching the tank striaght into the ASA? Do that to make sure the remote is the problem and not the gun itself.

Usually when using a remote line, there is usually a Stem valve used to turn on and off the tank. Sometimes screwing it all the way in can block the airflow from the tank valve. Try opening it a half turn.

yes the gun works fine without the remote line. And the remote line works fine with his other gun.

People have done that modification many times... most do it to vertical adapters.  I would say it is a good idea.  I would also drill a matching hole on the other side (two holes in the ASA) to make sure there is enough area for smooth flow.  Just be careful not to dage anything else while you are doing it.

I will be doing this myself to both an ASA and a vertical adapter tomorrow.  I will let you know if I have any problems.  But first I am going to fill my nitrogen tanks, or buy a bottle of Co2... I will probably do both.

Ok, I have just accomplished this.  ANd yes, I did have a few problems.

I learned not to use a drill press for this.  Not unless you use it with some kind of vice.  The shape makes it hard for a clamp to hold it down.  My left hand paid the price.

I ended up switching to a corded hand drill and using a vice to keep it stable.  The hole is a little deeper than I though, so just be careful when you drill it out.  There ends up being a lot of metal particles inside of it when you are done, use a can of air to clean it out, don't blow on it, that stuff doesn't taste very good.  Also, I would reccomend screwing air into it for a little bit to help clean it out more before hook anything up to it.

So as long as you put it in a vice, you should be fine... my drill press doesn't like me right now.  Plus it sort of damaged my vertical adapter... I will see if I can salvage it though.
