Well, today i tried replacing my sear spring with a clicky pen spring and it was too weak. I had like 4-6 shot bursts, with a few single shots inbetween. Well, thank god i was dry-firing, or else i would have had a nice blender effect going on... but anyways, i no people use this mod, and i was just wondering if there is a certain spring that works well and is strong enough? I think mine was from a bic, i cut it roughly to size and bent the ends for the sear and the pin, so i dont think its a question of if i did it right... but it might be. -------------

| i knoe ppl put pen springs in triggers for lighter pulls but i didnt think a pen spring would be good for a sear or not?? |

The sear spring is the one you would replace to make the penspring mod work . I've used the penspring mod on both of the 98 Customs I've owned with good results . The other spring , the trigger return spring can be completely removed , it serves no real purpose . The intent of replacing the sear spring with a clicky pen spring is to reduce the tension without destroying or altering the original spring . I have used springs out of those cheap advertising pens they give away , and they work just fine . The trick is as has been mentioned to reduce the tension and still get reliable resetting of the sear when the rear bolt cycles . I cut the springs down to approximately 7 full coils , plus one full loop on each end for hooking to the pins . Try cutting down the spring one full coil and reinstalling it to see how it works , Thats the process of "Tinkering" , and Damn those that think performance upgrades have to come "From the Pro-Shop" With the original mechanical trigger , the 98 Custom has a trigger pull of about 3 pounds . A few mods , like the penspring mod, polishing the internals , and hand fitting and polishing of the sear will result in a significantly crisper, lighter and Faster cycling marker ! Some will say polishing the internals will void the warranty , but I have not heard of one forumer ever having his warranty not honored by Tippmann because of this , and until Tippmann says it will void the warranty , I doubt it will... After all , polishing the internals is simply removing powdercoat "Overspray" from where it was never intended to be in the first place . yeah, but it dosent make the sear pull lighter, just the part before it... And thanks for the advice guys, ill go try a couple of the things you said... hopefully a few of them work. -------------
