I was just thinking about how the drinking age is America is 21 and was wondering if this causes a culture gap with other countries that have have lower ages e.g The UK wich has a minimum age of 18.

What age did you start drinking as a kid. And what did your parents do if they caught you?

It's an Anchorman reference Rico.

With that said not till I was late 17ish going on 18.

Parents knew it happened sometime, didn't like it at all      didn't like it but didn't do much either.

Now I'm in college though, I can get beer faster than a pizza.

Aight... didn't know he changed his name.

Eh, the minimum age was 18 when I started drinking.   I am officially old... 36 today.

I didn't start really drinking until right before I was 18 at the beginning of my senior year. I'd been drunk before but didn't really party as a habbit. My parents had a problem with this for quite some time saying that I was too young. Argueing that they were legally allowed to drink at 18 sort of brought them around. However, as soon as they allowed me to do it, they also allowed my 16 year old sister to do it, and even buy for her without asking for her to pay them, since unlike me, she doesn't have a job to afford alcohol. ?

Am I the only 18 year old on the planet that doesn't want to drink? It has no appeal to me at all.

My son is 17, hasn't drank (yet), and has no desire to as of yet.  I was 14, and it was my dad who gave me my first beer.

I started drinking at 16, my parents knew and didn't really like it. But they really didn't say anything because I was responsible about it.

Now that I am back from boot, its funny..

They are like "You are a Marine now, if you can die for your country you can drink."

So if you caught your son drinking, what would be your reaction?

I started at age 17, a month before grad. Prior to that, I had no interest to, but I felt I was up for it/ ready so I went for it. Now I'm in 2nd year university, and my parents know/ dont care (well...now I'm legal) And actually, the first martini my mom ever had was one I bought for her when she was in town last time.

Started at age 12 but only around 5 times. Got back into it sophmore year of high school through senior year of high school. Now I will only drink about two beers at a party.       Unless its summer.

Parents found out about it last year when I stumbled in to my house drunk thinking my mom was sleep. She didn't care since I had a sober driver.

Well it's pretty much like this...

You have to get tanked to the point of no return every time you drink. Every time. There's no other way to drink. Therefore, drinking leads to a hangover every time.

It's simple really.

If I caught him, not sure I would do much to tell you the truth, we have a good relationship, so we've talked about it.  I've always let him know that I don't care where he's at, or what shape he's in, I don't want him to ever drive if he's drunk, or to get in a vehicle with a driver who may be impaired, but to call me and I'll come.  I've reminded him about that regularly so hopefully he'll do it, not much more I can do really.

That is really the only thing that you can do. Most kids(like myself) need to learn through experiences. Parents are there to help guide them into making the right choices, but not make choices for them.

Oh and 16, but I'm not a huge drinker.

I never really had a problem with hangovers.

I always drink a couple of gatorades after I finish drinking, and I swear it prevents the hangover everytime.

First time I got drunk was in 6th grade at a St. Patricks Day party soo I was...12? Wow..that's sad. Didn't really drink but like once or twice between then and 8th grade and I am now a very good beer pong player. My parents know I drink and don't care, Saturday morning when I came home the conversation with my mom was "Did you play beer pong last night?" "Yeah." "Did you win?" "I won some, I wasn't shooting as good as usual." "Wait, what exactly happens when you win?" "The other team has to finish all the beer on the table." "Well that doesn't really sound like winning at all..."

Randomness on underage boozing. A foreign exchange student from mexico came to my high school. He got deported because he brought a bottle of vodka to school one day and started drinking it in the middle of class.

i got drunk a few days ago at school, some asian kid brought in 2 powerade bottles mixed heavily with vodka. when it hit him he got all hyper and giggly, with blood shot eyes so you could tell he was drunk. and someone in his 3rd hour class sniched on him and he had to take the breathilizer test and registered on the top level, he got suspended for a week. also hes on probation for it.

Probaly 1st time was when i was 15.. with my friend and his HAWWT sister in a tent, well apparently after a bottle of vodka i turn into one sexy fella. After that ive really only drank maybe once twice a year, and my belief is always " Go big ". Ive only had one hangover and that was last year on a snowboarding trip. I had 6 shots of 151, a half glass of hypnotiq and almost half a bottle of absolute vodka. I threw up all night, got a black eye from the toilet, and had the worst and first hangover of my life. I havent been drunk since then. A lil tipsy after a night out with my wife, but thats it. And january brings on a whole new snowboarding trip.

( According to my friends my amounts quoted above are on the more conservative side... How am i supposed to remember?

You know why they don't know how?
Because we make it a taboo subject, and kids are barred from useful information. It's just like having abstinence only sex ed, people are still gonna do it, just not safely.

I was drunk my first time at 13.  That was my first ever experience with any sort of mind altering substance.  After that, I've only been drunk 4 or 5 times since.  I really don't like the feeling of being drunk.  I just feel stupid and say things that I wouldn't say if I was sober.  I'd much rather just save the pleasure of killing my brain for something else like LSD or DMT or something.

I was 15 when I first got drunk.

I got caught drinking 2 months ago. My rents flipped out. For the first month, i wasn't allowed to leave the house, unless it was for school, football, or work.
Truthly, I feel like I'm 7 again. In order to go over a friends house, an adult has to be present. I almost hasn't allowed to get my license. I have to give them a detailed list of who I'm going out with, where I'm going to be, and how long Im going to be there. Thats if I'm allowed out though, which has only happened twice so far since the incident.

I know that they're doing what they think is best for me, but they never did this stuff with my older sister.
