I'm new to this and am not sure which gun would be best. I know I want to get a Tippmann and am kind of partial to the A-5, but which one is best?

A5 is the best

A5 comes with the cyclone out of the box and the custom pro comes with a barrel, double trigger, and drop. You can put the same upgrades on each one, so they're pretty equal as far as performance goes. I would go with the A5 though.

I'm going to have to disagree and Say 98 Custom Pro. I posted a similar topic last week on this. From what I've found people will generally say go A-5. I would have to agree that it is a sweet gun. The 98 Pro is also equally good. So why go with one vs the other? For one, money. The 98 is cheaper by about $70, ($50 if you get tippmann's rebate). Second, they are almost about equal in upgrades you can do. Out of the box the A-5 has the cyclone feed system, but you can upgrade your 98 pro to one for about $60. Some of the cons of the 98 pro is that it disassembles a little harder than the A-5. Don't be discouraged though, it is still cake to take apart and work on. Both guns have darn near identical internals. If your into mil-sim style guns the A-5 wins hands down for upgrades. If you are looking into preformance the A-5 will beat the 98 pro right out of the box, but the 98 pro can be upgraded to match or exceed the a-5's performance. Both are bullet proof guns you can't go wrong with. As for the comment "everybody has a 98", I think everybody has an A-5 and personally I think more people are enamored by its potential performance as a main reason they buy it rather than the functionality that already exists. You can get that same functionality out of the 98 pro for a whole lot less. I chose the 98 pro for looks and ergonomics rather than the A-5. For me it is more comfortable to hold. I've upgraded mine to where it cost a whole lot more than the stock A-5. Here is what I've done to my gun:

98 Custom Pro $160

Tippmann X-chamber $40

Cyclone Feed System $60

Grand Total....$260

New A-5 with rebate....~$210, upgrade with x-chamber $250

So you can see with upgraded options, pairing them with the same parts there is only a $10 difference. Basically it will make it come down to looks unless its money, then the 98 Pro is the winner (and you can upgrade it later when you get more money). Like I said, you can't go wrong with either, just buy what makes you happy, whatever you choose won't be a bad decision. I'll probably get an a-5 in the future to tinker with, but for now my 98 pro rocks.

Go with the c-pro. I had it and I loved it. A-5's are too big and bulky for me.

Thinking about it...

Well so far I have a ton of people that say A-5s and some that say custom pro/ 98 custom. Plus some people I know who say custom pro. So I guess I have to decide myself.

By the way I was planing on eventually upgrading into a sniper type paintball gun or maybe something like the A-5 stealth.

So would that change which gun I should buy?

Well to get the A-5 stealth you will have to own an A-5. But people have mixed emotions on the flat line barrell. It's about a 50/50 draw on the amount of people who like/dislike it. Read some of the sniper threads, there are about 9 billion of them. Woodsball sniping is next to impossible since all guns shoot the same distance, unless you have the flatline or apex barrell, in which you have range but no consistent accuracy. So you can go with either gun and put the same barrell on them. The 98 pro is a little less "bulky" to hold. I'd say go with the 98 pro still. Paintball is  run and gun sport, you can camp and hide and try to pick players off, but once they realize where you are, you don't stay put very long after that unless you want to get tagged out. Personally you want an  accurate consistent gun that can produce tight clusters of shots. Like I said, range isn't really an issue since everybody has the same range. Hope this helps

I never understand these posts.  When will people realize that there is no difference between an a-5 and 98!

Seriously, an a-5 is a 98 with a verticle adaptor.

They both take the same upgrades, both have the same internals and workings, both just as durable, consistant, co2 ready, anything!

If you pay the money to put the cyclone on your 98, it's like $10 less than the a-5, and does the exact same thing.  It's all about personal preferance and feel.

PERIOD!

Every few weeks and sometimes days it's always the same question "what is better A-5 or 98c?".  Thanks RavenGuard for taking care of this one. - Very well said.

Again, good call RavenGuard. If anyone wants to challenge that then go to tippmannparts.com and click on the A5. Then read what they say!
