I think it's interesting that almost all reviews I've seen out focus on the software and the store. I really could care less. You can use iTunes as a Jukebox on your computer and use Zune's software just to sync the Zune. And who buys music, come on
From what I've heard of the device itself, it's not that bad.
Anyone have any personal experience with the either?

Well, you don't die when your software crashes, and I didn't say it was pwn, I'm just trying to make sure people realize that it's not a 100% failure rate, like apple fanboys would like to believe.

Yeah I was gonna mention how they tried the software on other PC's and it seems to work fine. Having set up a few on display at work *BestBuy* everything went fine. I had no issues with the software and anyone and everyone who has any Microsoft product on their PC is already used to the Registration process. I have no complaints other than the fact that the Zune is a bit thicker than I thought it would be. Oh, and there are no cool ways to integrate it in to your car stereo besides an AUX jack.

"Songs wirelessly transferred from one Zune to another can only be played
three times. After three days, the song expires – regardless of whether
or not it has been played. Just playing half the song (or one minute,
whichever comes first) counts as one “play.” You can never resend a
song to the same friend, nor can a song received from someone else be
passed on to a third person. These limitations apply to all files,
including copyright-free self-recorded songs and similar."

Not really. Also, on engadget, there are several fishy comments about how good the zune is. Fishy as in microsoft using robots to make spam posts. Check it out:
"My girlfriend and I both bought zunes today at Best Buy. After we
installed the software (worked flawlessy on xp pro on both our
notebooks). We started downloading the crap out of the marketplace with
our subscriptions. I just met her a hour ago at a coffee shop and we
sent each other some songs to test everything out. A bunch of people
kept asking us what we were using and what the hell we were doing. It
was pretty cool. I am not a big fan of the 3 x 3 plan, but if you have
the subscription package on marketplace, its not a big deal at all
since all songs are free (just your $15 fee per month)."
There are several very similar to that, emphasizing the whole "welcome to the social" tagline.

Except apple will cover it if its hardware, and it borks "every year" as you say. And stop being cheap and get something bigger than 4 gigs, or shutup and dont complain about lacking space.

I thought about getting an ipod but apple didnt do anything about the hardware problem when I asked them to fix it. This happened twice. My battery constantly dies at random times on the first and second ipods Ive owned and everyone else has the same problems with them. Why would I buy a new more expensive ipod if the ones Ive had didnt work. Wheres the logic in that?

You don't need to get a new iPod every year. Just get one larger than 4 gigs and hang on to it for several years. I have a 4th gen one that I have had very few issues with since I got it 2 and a half years ago.

I didnt get a new one every year because they didnt hold enough songs, I got new ones because they kept breaking. Battery problems mainly (randomly turned off, life kept getting shorter, etc) and and in one instance never turned back on again. I have to say I love itunes though, possibly the best music service out there.

ok first off everthing has its problems....and i mean everything even apple
makes mistakes. but the first question is how much did you use your first
ipods with the messed up batteries and whe you got it did you charge it
all the way and then let the battery die all the way. If not thats part of
your problem and your own fault because you didnt let the ipod orientate
its self. also you only fit 200 songs on your for gig are you retarded that
is literaly a fraction of the space a 4 gig has i myself have 600 songs on
mine and it says im a little over half way full. Honestly i also have to say if
you cant figure your ipod out (i mean come on my grandma can figure her
ipod out) then how are you going to deal with all the software problems
on you zune. By the way last little not if you think your ipod has to few
songs then imagine half of those on your zune because you have to fill
the rest of it up with patches

Does it not Sync with WMP as a PlaysforSure device? I must say I do see quite a bit of Microsoft bashing in this thread, especially from people who haven't used the Zune at all. Chewp, does it really take every reply being negative, sarcastic and full of spite to make you feel secure? Apple will always sell more mp3 players than Microsoft will. Fact is someone came out with a device and you are all dogging it before you or anyone here gets to use one and report first hand. I think the screen size is neat and the wireless transfer would have been nice if they didn't DRM the hell out of the files. But let's focus here, you can send pictures to other people and keep them however long you want/view them as much as you want. Let's keep an open mind and let the product perform before shutting it out, ok guys?

No, it won't work with PlaysForSure, and that's what a lot of the negativity has been about. But Zune Marketplace has it's own rental-service, so couldn't those people just cancel their PFS subscription and get a "Zune Pass" and re-download everything. Is that what you'd have to do? I admit I don't really bother to figure out how the subscription stuff works. It would be a hassle too.

I think the Zune looks pretty awesome: music, photos, video, wifi, a nice display, and *almost* as compact as the iPod.
It's just DRM and the fact that it's made by Microsoft that kills it.
I'd have to say I agree with HV.

Also, the zune software is total hell.
Engadget said there are so many stupid limitations, like you cant listen to the zune while it is plugged in, and you have to replug the zune after a transfer if you want to change somthing, it sucks down way to many cpu cycles, crashes every 3 minutes, uber slow transfer speed, ect
The software takes up ~175 megs of ram, and adds 3 processes to your machine.
Its amazing Apple can write a better program for windows than microsft can.

I still use my cd players, when I get new cds and am to lazy to put them on my comp and then on my mp3 player it's a nice thing to have.

While the Zune has built-in WiFi capabilities, it can only connect to
other Zune devices; it can't wirelessly sync with its host PC, nor can
it wirelessly connect to the internet and download new music via a
Wi-Fi hotspot.

Well on the one hand I wasn't acutally trying to say that cd players are better than mp3 players, I'm not a tard. But yes when I get a new cd it's nice to have a cd player lying around so I can slap it in there.

if you want to break it put your iPod near a powerful magnet. It should erase everything on it, they might give you a new one for that. iPod> every other mp3 player on the market
