It is cool that you have stuck with it for so long.

SMG for $800!? Nice haul...

Pretty cool to see the older players, and I mean that as non-offensive as I can. I've been playing since the mid 90's. My first gun was a Tippmann SL-68II. Used. Got it for $20, and loved it. I'll never forgive myself for selling it.

10 people on 80 acres of New Hampshire woods in June 1980.

Edited Note: The game was capture the flag (sort of) with 12 different colored flag stations. The object was to be the first to collect a flag of each color without getting eliminated. The winner never fired a shot.

i herd that dennis tippmann invented it for markers cattle. Hints the name paintball marker. One night him and his buddies were drunk and started shooting each other. Thats the story Ive herd.

It was started by Hayes Noel and Charles Gaines.
They decided to have a duel with some cattle markers and it evolved into stalking eachother in the woods.

They considered the first real game (not just standing around and shooting each other) the one where they invited all the friends out to play. For gee whiz info, the guy that won was an outdoorsman (lumbering and hunting) named Richard White.

From what I have gathered, and done a little research on. Is that the US forestry Service asked for a reliable way to mark trees, because some trees would be across a stream or thick brush. The Nelspot Paint Company created the paintball for that reason, and used a ball since it could shoot farther than a stream of paint. Also, later it was used for ranchers to mark stray cattle.

Nelspot paint went to a Crossman to design the gun and they created the Crossman 707, but after 4 years they found it not to produce enough money. Then Nelspot Paint went to Daisy, who, since not owning the 707 patent, created the Daisy Splotchmarker. The Splotchmarker was later know as the Nelspot 007.

Okay now back on topic for this post. Nice gear, Ive always like the SMG. If you want I think someone over at mcarterbrown converted one to .69 caliber. I would love to see someone at my field using one.

I don't have an SMG, but I do have an old 68 Special. Its still in great condition and in perfect working order. I never get to use it anymore since I'm a broke college student, so I might have to put it on ebay or something soon. But it is so much fun to play with. I love how it kicks like a real gun and is loud as hell.

Nice SMG, and nice .68 special as well!

The guy that won that very first game did it without firing a single shot.

It was a really odd capture the flag kind of game. They had something like 12 people each with their own flag station, they played on a ton of acreage (I can't remember the exact figure, but I think it was between 20-30 acres) and the objective was to get to each flag station and get a flag without getting shot or loosing your own flags. It took something like 10 hours to play if I remember correctly. It's in the Ultimate Guide to Paintball at the very front. And SMGMAN, I bet the nelson and splatmaster boys HATED YOU with a passion didn't they!
