Ok in the world of firearms the smoothbore came first. then the rifled barrels.

In paintball there are rifled PB barrels. but the're sometimes hard on the paint. so how do you get the paintballs to spin without rifling?

how about the smoothbore barrels spining. if you have a good paint-to-barrel fit, it could work. right?

you could have the inserts like the freek to get the PTB fit. then have a small motor spinning the barrel. it would probbably be about the size a the flatline. but it would weigh a little more.

your thoughs?

The spin would cause it to shoot to the left of the right(depending on the spin)

Thus is why the flatline spins the ball backwards.

it wouldnt work bullets work in a riffled barrel due to thier expansion, they fit tight under enormous pressure, you cant get a perfect ball to barrel match due to machining restrictions and the fact that life sucks,

spiral porting gives paintballs a slight spin due to escaping gases

You guys do know that a spinning paintball is a bad thing? Paintball's don't spin like bullets, they don't even spin like balls. They're actually egg shaped, if you think about it they lie on top of one another and crush each other into eggs, and a spinning egg doesn't go that far.

hea I just thought this was kind of original. spinning the barrel could work. Or at least it could make some good $$$

Wow Monk, your genius. Good thing you posted this early in the thread so as to debunk the myth of side spin...

Sure rifling works great for a solid object, but a paintball has a liquid core. It would wobble like a mofo.

i think the idea of a rotating barrel is a good, original idea, but just unesscesary.its not like a pb sniper is gonna be pulling off a 100yd shot anytime soon,i think accuaracy has pretty much reached its peak with the standard pb

first off, this is not a new idea in any sence of the word, second rifling in a gun actually cuts into the bullet, you dont believe me? go to a shooting range or google up a pic of a fired bullet, there are little cuts in it from the rifling, if you where to use this concept in paintball to the point where it would actually make a differance, you would bust every ball you fired.

Now some of you know of some barrels that are rifled for paintball, well they are rifled... but just barely so they really dont effect the ballistics at all, soooo long story short "It aint gunna work."

^^ yes

Im not saying cutting rifling into the barrel. Im saying having it smoothbore. If you have a good Paint-to-barrel fit, the rotating barrel will spin it. No cutting of the paint.
