I hate people like you.
The only "emo" music you know of is probably Hawthorne Heights and Fall Out Boy, both of which are horrendous bands and NOT emo even though they are labeled that because of the modern day "emo" stereotype.

You've probably never even heard real emo music.
I think Benjichang has gotten in this argument with some people before, so he knows what I'm talking about.

I'm not talking about emo as it is now...
I'm talking about emo music when it first began, when there was no emo image... a prime example for a great early emo band is Sunny Day Real Estate.

edit: and carbine, good call on Scary Kids Scaring Kids... they are a good  band.

I disagree.
Indie just refers to an artist that is independantly produced.

(though I agree that indie as a "genre" is a really stupid concept)

Funky- How is David Bowie less known/popular?
Regardless, I think the world needs to listen to more Bowie.

Also, another not exactly small band- Wilco
Pick up Kicking Television, it rocks, ad is more accessible than their studio stuff.

I'd say his recent work isn't as well known.

His recent albums sound nothing like Ziggy did.

Thus why I mentioned the albums.

Streetlight Manifesto, The Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, The Suburban Legends, The Gadjits, The Untouchables, Union13, SkinnerBox, The Mescaleros, The Rocksteady 7, Hepcat, The Business, Street Dog, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Briggs, US Roughnecks, F-Minus, Die Hunns, The Bastards, Brain Failure, The Ducky Boys, The Horrorpops, Westbound Train.

I've been listening to Antony & The Johnsons a lot recently.

Antony is this really androgynous singer (technically a man but she identifies
as a woman) with a voice that will absolutely blow you away. You just can't
believe that such a voice is coming out of such a person.

If that's too weird for you, you should probably download some Ryan Adams.

If Prod posts videos, I post videos.

Westbound Train is a band I have been starting to get really into as of late. The lead singer has a great soul-singer style voice, with an amazing vibe.

The band is a great combination of Roots-Reggae and Soul, with a good early Ska beat.

I like screamo a bit better than straight emo, emo just keeps dragging on and on about how someone died or someone's depressed or how someone else got dumped.  Also, many songs are acustic, which dosent really entertain me.  At least with screamo, you cant understand what they're complaining about.

Blue October's demo CD (They started at a local bar). It's completely different than their well known stuff, but still pretty good. I think you could probably classify it as true Emo. They don't have the look or the sound of cliche emo, but their songs are typically depressing...

I have this ability to completely ignore lyrics. If the music (vocals+instruments+rythm) is catchy, I focus on the collective. Basically, I don't pay attention to lyrics. That's why I'm starting to like some of the bands/songs that many people don't like; I seem to like the way they are played. A good example is Linkin Park. I find them catchy for some reason, but no one likes them.

Edit: Except screamer! I hate that with a fiery passion! No amount of mad guitar skillz could save a screamer song IMO. I don't like Linkin Parks screamer songs...

Lol, Ive liked LP since their debut.  People have just written them off as a band for the wannabe punk middle schoolers, but ive held on to them.  Cant wait for their new album, think its due no more than halfway through next year.  Its kinda wierd, but theres not a single song by them that I havent liked.

i have always enjoyed LP

I also quite like screamer song, many times it just takes a bit getting used to, but once you can actully here what there screamer and actully start to listen to how the music is it sounds good.

to someone who dosnt listen to screamer music all they hear is noise, you just gotta get used to it

There is only 2 kinda of music i refuse to listen to...

emo and country

yes, there is a couple good songs in each of those genres but for the most part, i hate them

Living in Omaha, you become exposed to a lot of great local bands.  The Faint, Bright Eyes, Cursive, and The Good Life all got their start here.

Less Than Jake, Cursive, Flogging Molly(popular yes I know, but also not that popular), Street Dogs, Brand New(I like their first cd, and a few songs off Deja Entendu, not really the slow softer songs), The Toasters, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, At the Drive-In, Matisyahu, Reel Big Fish, etc. Yes I know some are kind of popular but to mainstream not really.

I need a new Sig...

Moxy Fruvous, Lacuna Coil, Devo, early Mr. Big (pre-acoustic stuff), Tommy
Bolin, anything Jim Steinman wrote/produced, Blue Man Group, Casting
Crowns.

All I can come up with at this moment.

The thread was not asking your favorite bands. It was asking you to post bands that fit two criteria.

1) You like them

and

2) They are less known about or less popular than most.

Your bands fit the first, but not the second, therefore, should not have been posted.

Guys, can we please all declare a cease-fire long enough to get this thread
back on track?

Thank you for your cooperation.

Everything else was posted.

I love these type of threads. I usually find a couple new bands to start listening to from these.

Beulah was hands down, the best show I've ever seen live. My friend Tim and I saw them at a little concert hall in Pittsburgh's Southside. There were only a couple hundred fans, and Beulah played fantastic. Near the end of the show, several fans were invited onstage, and the one keyboard player (there are two keys players in Beulah) invited me onstage to shake the tambourine during the songs "Silver Lining" and "Disco." It's a shame a band that good is no longer around.
