First off, I am new to the sport and this forum. So if this is the wrong place to post this, I apoligize. Here is my question: I recenlty installed a Flatline barrel on my 98C, and have come to appreciate what it does. I am considering upgrading to an A5 for X-mas. I have seen threads in the forum and advertisments for 98C to A5 barrel adapters. The use of which, would mean I would have 2 adapters (the flatine adapter itself and the 98C to A5 adapter) on the A5. Has anyone ever done this or seen it done, and if so did it work? I know it sounds cheap, but I hate the thought of shelling out another $100 for an A5 Flatline. -------------

The apex is even better, I don't have it yet, I have the

when you get one just make sure you getting an adapter for the right way. you want a-5 threads going to the gun and 98 threads inside the adapter. just making sure you dont guy a adapter to put A-5 barrels on your 98. some people make this blunder when shopping online if they arent careful. -------------

Phil, That link was well worth the read. I think the A5 may be better overall...all things considered, but I already have an investment in my 98C, and I really do like it! My biggest dissapointment with my 98C is that I can not put an e-grip in. Thanks to you (that link, and everyone in it), the more I think about it, the less it seems worth buying an A5 for that purpose (an e-grip). So, I think I will stick with my 98C and upgrade to an R/T and a new loader or cylcone feeder. I appreciate the advice, it'll save me a few (hundred) greenbacks  -------------

Yes, definately stick with the 98c. By the way, I think the adapter would cause a lot of barrel breaks beause of the sudden change of the ball moving upwards after having the full force of air behind it from going through the adapter first. I hope that made sence(sp?). |

Ya I love my 98C older model and honestly if you really wanted to put e grip into your gun you could. Someone one this site did it, but I can't remember who though, I think it is too much time and too much effort when you don't get that much in return. I personally like the Rt because it is upgradeable especially with the cyclone, you can upgrade to super rt, then get QEV, then Vortex mod, Lightening Rod. And then you'd have a fast gun and it doesn't need batteries and it is waterproof! And lighter than the A-5 (only by about half a pound). People mod and mill the 98C in so many ways, it is so capable of anything if you put your mind to it. Even e-bolt. Anyway I think you are making a well informed decision and if you put that money into your 98 Custom and you will have a better gun than the A-5 with stock parts. I'm glad I could help. |

The A5 – 98C argument has been done to death. No they are not the same gun, but they are both Tippmanns and yes they both perform in much the same manner. If you want an easy fix, hassle free gun that you can play with straight out the box, get the A5. If you enjoy tinkering with your marker, adding bits and bobs, then 98C is for you. |

If you have an older style 98 with the tension sear spring your only option is an ebolt. Some have put in a sear tripper but its really not so easy. If you have a newer style body with the compression sear spring, then you can easily mod a sear tripping e-grip to your 98.\ But again, with the ebolt... You just going to spend alittle more money than the egrip, but in alot of peoples opinions, the ebolt its better. |

To answer the original question; yes you could use a 98 to A5 thread adapter to mount a 98 F/L on an A5. However, this is not something you should do for the following reasons:
