Yeah, RS has one, shorty has one of the older models as well. He uses it on his plethera of .68carbines.
It's a really nice barrel, I've had the chance to use it. He let me use it for a bit at the "Path of Disaster" game back in '02

^^^What are you talking about Carl? The SC barrel was flat out amazing. It was the only straight barrel that could actually be used to implement sniping maneuvers and still have a length of under 12". It's superior range and accuracy and quietness were unmatched, even by the Flatline and Apex. We say you can't snipe nowadays, because no one has the SC barrel.
The reason you can't find pics, is because in at around 5 were made, specifically for those who had, uh, "connections" with Big Al. Unfortunately, he's no longer around, so no more will ever be seen. If you were to find one, the price would probably be well above that of a new Angel and then some.

The limited number of Super Chromium barrels were made by hand by Dash of Air-Tipps. He's out of Los Alamos, NM. Dash is a machinest that works for the government there. He'd take some of the "special material" scrap from his job and make paintball stuff with it. The Super Chromium barrel one one such invention that was amazing.
Dash also made my 68-Carbine (the Weed) run low pressure. I could shoot a case of paint on one 20oz. tank of Co2.
I'll have to dig mine out and post a picture of it. It sits in my SL68-II. Talk about a nail driver...

^yes this is great info but it still doesn't explain why there aren't being anymore made.
This guy should start a business because he seems to know a good amount about make quality paintball stuff, or if he has the barrel patented then he could even get hired by a company like dye to make it and other stuff for them; or he could just simply tell Dye or any other pb company) how to make the barrel and get paid royalties for every single barrel that is made until his grand kids' grand kids are dead - or at least until someone else can make a better barrel.
So why aren't there any more being made, by anyone, someone other than Big Al (as some say), or Dash (as Rock Slide calls him) must know how to make it? So why aren't they?!!
Plus how did you get one?
And yes I'd love to see a picture.
If it is really ball on ball all the time, it could be selling for over 1K and I know that all paintball teams would be buying it and I would even buy it myself after I'm in my career and making money. Right now I'm in school so I have bills to pay but I would later on, and I think so would many hardcore paintballers.
Anyone know if someone has plans on coming back out with it in the near future?

After intensive searching, I found a locked thread about this barrel. And this info:
Dude, if and when you become platty, the Admin either PMs you, or you PM
him. From there, the Admin takes over and tells you when and where to send the
money, and when the barrel will get to your house.
If you don't accept it then, your chance is gone. You only get one chance.
I thought like you when I was a regular member, then I become a platty one
day(on a glitch) but the admin didn't know that, he PM'd me with the info, and
I got mine. Best thing that has ever happened to me.

Yeah you just send the money through the mail, then you get your barrel
shortly after. From what i hear this barrel is almost godlike, shoots really
tight groops and farther than a flatline.
It supposedly costs $711!?!
I really want one!! Is all of this true? Especially the part about having a chance to get one once I become a platinum member?

Sorry, it's not true. When Tippmann upgraded the forum software the last time they switched the star status to being based just on post count. So that was the end of the tradition. (Platinum membership had previously been invitation only)

Dash doesn't make them anymore and has gotten out of the paintball business. The reason there were a limited number is the material they were made from. You have to understand... He worked at LOS ALAMOS... Where they make things that go BANG!

Lots of exotic materials around that I don't think Dye could afford. Dash made a few, gave them out as gifts, and didn't make any more.

if it tarnishes it would be one of the worst things for making a barrel with

One of the "mystery" alloy ingredients is rare, and thus so is the barrel.

I heard it was made by big Big Al, so maybe if I slept in his tent???
But then I read:
Quote from Zesty:
"Alright, first of all, no BigAl didn't not make it, the producer/manufacturer of the Super Chromium is unknown....secodnly, just because it is called the Super Chromium does not mean it is made solely from Chromium!
I'm pretty sure it is some hybrid alloy.
For those saying it's fake: I must be fake then as well, because I was offered to go through the "ritual" to be able to purchase the barrel.
The barrel is as real as you and I."
_______
I also read somewere it was made by a company called Nush wait now that isn't the name I can't remember it... it was four letter name crap...?
I also found: "It was dealed with in Area 51 and includes stolen military technology."
And now you say it was Air Tipps!>>?
___________
Anyway I read there were only 5 Super Chromnium 2000 barrels which were the best in the world but I heard there were copies made which were almost as good. I don't mind if I don't get the Super Chromnium 2000 I can live with a Super Chromnium (copy).
So does anyone know:
If I become a platnium member, could I have a chance at getting one? How about if I became a mod at one point in my life? (yes I know it would take a while)
Is there any hope for me whatsoever, can I even dream about it?
Whoever it may be from, big al or whoever? Could I dream of getting one?

WOW....I did not think this would bring up such a conversation...I was just reminiscing about conversations, jokes, and good times from the past. Phil, even if you go through the ritual, I do not think you will get one. I have been here since before the forum even had a star rating for it's members, back on the old forum. Well I still haven't got a super chromium nor do I need one...the next best thing is a Palmer brass barrel (God like accuracy) or an old Dye Stainless (nearly as good as Palmer brass) and I mean the old dye stainless, the one piece barrel, not that imitaion two piece boomstick.

ahhh yes, the old days, back when "mother" meant something.
The reason so much gets attributed to Big Al on the Super Chromium threads is that a few of the OMHW guys got the barrels (see RS for example) The ONLY way you got become a full fledged member of the OMHW (unless you were a charter member) was to go through the initiation with Big Al. The last person I physically saw after an initiation was Timmy B. Handsome kid, too bad he'll never be the same after what Al did to him. Fran begged Al to go easy on him, as he is a bit fragile when compared to the bulk of Al, but it wasn't to be. I don't think anyone in Anne Arundal County MD slept well that night.

Hasn't been heard from since. Supposedly the people who developed it were paid by the government, and the so-called 'secret ingredient' is rare enough that they're hunting down all the old samples to keep them out of civilian hands. Including, unfortunately, the barrels.

There is only one 'Unacounted Super Chromium Barrel' And that was in in a Tippmann F/A that was lost in the swamp. According to accounts it was lost inbetween the S bend on the road just past the Pentgon where you can see across the Swamp to the Tippmann Castle.
I tried to look for it once durring a Tippmann Challenge but Dave wouldnt let us bring in Scuba Equipment from his shop nor the metal detectors. Word has it he has been in the Off Season diving for to trying to recover it.

Yes well I have read the Regulars forum and I see what you guys are saying but why are you saying it?
http://www.tippmann.com/forum/wwf77a/forum_posts.asp?TID=162 311&PN=1
But think about this: Snake6 and others used to say in threads from 2005 that the Chrominum
barrel itself wasn't real.
http://www.tippmann.com/forum/wwf77a/forum_posts.asp?TID=138 360&PN=1&TPN=5
Now he and most others that said it was fake will admit it is real (probably because of the pictures) but
now you regulars are coming up with theories about how doesn't worklike it was said it was supposed to.
It would be nice if anyone could elaborate on this and also as carl_the_sniper said: "can someone explain big al? the tent?"

See, here's the issue with the Super Chromium, you get a lot of people who want to be associated with greatness, so they claim to have one, or claim to have played with one. But the fact of the matter is, a very very small and select circle of people wound up even coming close to being on the giving side of one of them. The best way to judge who is really in the know about the super chromium is by either their "joined" date (too bad we don't have member numbers anymore ) or their affiliation at some point with the OMHW. Obviously, most of the mods are throw-backs from the old forums. Like I said, I was in College back when I first heard of the Super Chromium, and that was almost 10 years ago. Just look at RS's barrel, you can tell how old it is! It looks even more used than my J&J ceramic I bought back in '98.
Anyway, to set the record straight, it was Dash who made engineered them, Air Tipps was the company who produced them (which was partly owned by Dash) and only a handful of people ever recieved them, mainly as gifts.

You get the barrels ported, or no ported; powedercoated in about just any color or nickel plated with either a satin or polished finish; If it is for a closed bolt gun like a cocker, blazer, omen, they will put wedgits in the barrel to prevent rollouts. Palmers does it all with their barrels basically. The A5OG guys love them on their guns. |
What about kits? are the palmers brass barrels worth it? |
Well seeing as I will only shot Palmer brass or a Dye Stainless, yes they are worth it, ask any guy who has been in the game for a long time, there is something about brass that just works better. You want to know more go and ask on the http://www.paintmagazine.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=10&sid=0891d9d4a9ab568fcf11f3de6dc06315 - Palmers Owners Group
I own 2 Palmer guns with fixed Palmer barrels and I have had and still own Palmer brass barrels for other guns of mine.

Wow, so many people who CLAIM to know about the Super Chromium. I'm reading through 4 pages of "facts" and less than half of it is true.
How do you think OMHW dominated every scenario game they ever played in? Teamwork, strategy and such helped, but equipment definitely plays a part as well.
It's too bad most of the old rank has gone their separate ways. I'd still love to see at least a handful get together for NJ Nam in June.
Speaking of Dash. I haven't heard from him in years. Did they find out that he took the material out of the facility?

Well be at Nj'Nam in 2007. I sent you the link to our new prowling grounds in your MySpace.
And due to requests from Above any more mention of Dash will cause the thread to be closed. The Official word on that is that Dash was never employed as a subcontractor at Los Alamos. And there was never an AirrTipps Company. There are no Super Chromiums and Rockslide your PM box is full. Expect an Email from you know who. I'd suggest you remove that picture.
As for Phil forget all about the Superchromium.

You Didn't See Anything!
And County, longtime since I've seen you post, you usually catch those "which site is the best to buy from" posts.

Heh, Im sorry but you really sound like the U.S. Government and Area 51 (Nothing wrong with that though), which just magnifies my curiosity.
Anyway, Air Tipps DOES exist, I even have proof. I have jack on the Super Chromium, but Air Tipps is a real company, who currently makes two slings and A5 Stainless Screws...

Question # 1:
Nobody wants to elaborate on the fact why they think that “at
the rate I’m going I’ll never get one”.
- The above seemed like it was a personal remark, because yes
I understand about the inner circle of OMHW, or having to be lucky, or whatever,
and also now the platinum system is changed so most plat members won’t get it
now ever anyway. But why was the above
said about me specifically? huh RoboCop?
Question # 2
How many are “accounted for” there must be more than 5. It was said that there were only 5 “Super
Chromium 2000” barrels and that the rest were just simply “Super Chromium”
(almost as good as the 5 originals but they weren’t the 2000 version).
Question # 4
a) How close the Palmer Brass Barrels are compared to
accuracy as the Super Chromium?
b) Plus if the Palmers Brass barrels are supposed to be the
most accurate other than the Super Chromium then why does the Dye Ultralite
cost so much more and why do people on this forum say to people that ask about
barrels “get a bigshot” “get a J&J Ceramic” “get a Dye Ultralite”?
Question # 5
Why are so many miss-informed and don’t people know the
facts about this barrel?
-
There are people that say it was made here; and by such
and such a guy or such and such a company, or by a company that doesn’t exist
anymore (but that really does) etc.
-
Others say it was dealed with in Area 51 and includes
stolen military technology.
-
Others say it’s all a joke.
-
There
seems to be such much of this miss-information, we
could actually believe quite a few different stories as if they were
facts (I was gullible for a while, but I was still right about the
barrel being real etc, plus I
searched a lot, and for hours, and I’m still asking questions and I
still don’t
know everything). This goes to show all the people that are saying
different things or hiding things etc.
-
Why doesn’t anyone seam to know much about it (except
for maybe 3 people) and why are the people that say they know stuff about it,
or say they have one etc. not willing to talk much about it as if the government
or the mob or someone is going to take them out? Why did someone think the reason KRL was gone had to do with the barrel and Big Al.
Question # 6
Is this barrel really what it is hyped up to be? So
many are saying that it was over hyped or that it is made up etc. Here are quotes only from recently;
jerseypaint
You people had me going...I
want to tell phil so bad. But I don't know what to do. How did you guys make
the "super chromium barrel" up? Just wondering.
ShortyBP
I honestly don't recall the
true origin... as it kinda just snowballed and grew and grew.
It has claimed many victims. Before I actually met anyone here in person, I
remember sending emails to Nobody and Oldguy telling them to stop hyping it, as
it was "cruel", but eventually I removed the stick from my
hindsection and let it continue. Rock Slide is probably one of the few still
here that might know the history better than I.
How much for the Hellhound? Dunno. But I bet you could trade a Super Chromium
for it.
BARREL BREAK
What do you mean "Made
up?"
Carl_the_sniper
Can someone explain big al? the
tent?
ShortyBP
Words alone cannot describe
BigAl and "the tent" aka Casa De Amor.
It must be experienced, first-hand.
I have not even quoted anything from the last 23 page thread
which I could quote much, much more.
Question # 7
Why is everything such a big secret, many say that there is
a secret ingredient but many say this all a joke and how of course could a
barrel add distance etc. and that this barrel is way over hyped even mods
followed along with that thought.
Could someone that actually knows what they are talking
about and explain the truth?
P. S. I don’t care anymore about getting the barrel; it
seams like way too much work and I don’t like the sounds of what happened to
Timmy B. in the “casa de Amor”
Quote: tallen702
The last person I physically saw after an initiation was Timmy
B. Handsome kid, too bad he'll never be the same after what Al did to him. Fran
begged Al to go easy on him, as he is a bit fragile when compared to the bulk
of Al, but it wasn't to be. I don't think anyone in Anne Arundal
County MD
slept well that night.

1. You're annoying.
2. I don't know.
3. You skipped 3.
4. Psh.
5. Heh heh heh. Some are trying to throw you off (cough) others are giving you the facts.
6. They say it's overhyped and made up because they have never used it. How can it not exist? Pictar, much?
7. It's a secret because it's exclusive.
