Well, as strange as it may seem, my A5 Flatline has managed to sort of shoot itself apart. For those familiar with the barrel, its a casing housing a curved tube, and said curved tube has decided it likes to move forward, detaching itself from the casing each time I shoot. It will, if fired enough, litterally push its way out of the tubular case. I've taken it apart and put it back together five times, and it just won't stay put. Drove an hour and a half, forked over the field fee, and played two games, and had to call it a day  .Looking at the curved tube, it seems to have friction marks (where the metal is worn and scratched), so I kinda figure it was just kinda loose from the factory and the use just made it worse. On top of that, now no matter how much I tighten the three bolts to attach the whole thing to the gun, even that won't stay on (again with the wearing). Given that the barrel has only been in use since august, and the only time I've removed the barrel is when I've taken the entire A-5 apart to clean (not twisting it out and removing it on the field), I find this odd and depressing, to say the least. nothing a little blue (break strength) loctite couldn't fix. Of course, that will limit your cleaning ability on the field. My suggestion, wrap the barrel threads with a little teflon plumbers tape, and make sure your screw around the barrel-threads is nice and tight (but not overly so. Also, if your barrel bushing o-ring isn't there, you need to get a new one. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Thanks for the replies. I thought about the teflon tape, and I'll prolly give that a whirl, at least for the coming weekend. Then, I might try and send it to Tippmann, given that the problem will only inevitably get worse as time goes on. As for the O ring, I wasn't aware that there was/is an O ring for the A-5 Flatline. There's one for the standard thread adapter, but since you have to take that out to install the Flatty, one less little ring to worry about, I hope. Thanks much, all. Hey, that's a situation that Tippmann MFGR Co. will help you with. Call them up on Monday. Their # is:800-533-4831 (extention #2). You'll have it back in a week. But call them 1st, ok? An added thought, and this is doubtful; but could it be that you're using the wrong sized paintballs? Like ones that are too large? That COULD cause more friction than necassary. Even with this, I'd think you would be getting alot of balls breaking in the barrell, before your barrell would do that. Wow, what a trip! I have a FlatLine too, but don't use it much. Just take the casing off. You don't realy need it. |
