Ah I see Cedric has spread the word that I don't like the Beatles. As we discussed this in chat, he seemed to get somewhat of a hardon for putting words in my mouth. I assume it is his life goal now to nitpick this to death.
And to answer your question, whale, I do not like the Beatles, so I would rather listen to the Offspring. Cedric, you are such a sad, pitiful child. I won't go so far as to say this is "low" but it sure isn't one of your high points of achievement..

I did answer your question, I'm sorry you have such trouble reading implied meanings. I think the Offspring are better than the Beatles. Now what might drive me to say that you ask? Simple, I do not like the Beatles. And to be truthful there is no right or wrong answer to which band is better, it is purely opinion.

Yes, because the only reason we are supposed to like something is how many people it affected... That is the logic behind why people like Idols, and if you idolize a band, that's fine. I don't idolize musicians, nothing against them as people, I just put my admiration towards nobler principles than being able to carry a tune.
You guys are idolizing the Beatles, and gettign bent out of shape because I do not share your view. However you ask me which band is better, and as I said I like the Offspring more than the Beatles. Now what you can't get through your head, as I have stated many times, that I am basing my judgement on how the songs sound, not how influencial they were.
<Cedric> how cn you not like them <High_Voltage> pretty sure that equates to me asking you how you can like them <High_Voltage> differing tastes in music, i don't listen to old <expletive> like that <DaveEllis> Well <DaveEllis> Considering the beatles set the picture of modern music <DaveEllis> They go far past taste <High_Voltage> no, not really <DaveEllis> To deprecate their artistic influence would be foolish <High_Voltage> me choosing to listen to something is purely taste <DaveEllis> They even influenced rap <High_Voltage> i never said they weren't influencial <Cedric> they influenced <expletive> everything <High_Voltage> did i? <High_Voltage> no, i said they sucked <High_Voltage> which comes from my musical taste <tom> i vote not enough cowbell
Upon further inspection, I find people's admiration of the Beatles is comparable to blind faith.. like religion. I'm stepping back from that, and judging them on how they sound. I am done with this argument, I have made my point, strongly, many times. No logical or rational counterpoint has been made, I'm done.

You're wrong, HV.
It's fine for you to say that you don't enjoy listening to them. But there's no
way you can deny that they were amazing at what they did. And for you to
say "I think the offspring is better than The Beatles" just because you prefer
listening to one over the other would be like me saying, "I think Dan Brown
is better than Shakespeare" because I enjoyed reading The Da Vinci code
more than reading Hamlet.*
And to say that their influence is irrelevant is the stupidest goddamn thing
I've ever heard.
*Just an example, I refuse to read The Da Vinci Code.

Wait a second.
Disagreeing with you is "Blind faith" making you stand out as better and smarter than those who have a high level of appreciation for a band whose music managed to transcend decades, and move their fan base from generation to generation?
your opinion is one thing, but to say that those who carry different opinions are 'blindly' following the masses 'like religion' is NOT a strongly made point, its a vote for arrogance.
How exactly does a band's influence NOT come into play when discussing the fervor with with they are followed and enjoyed by so many people?
Condensing your argument, one hears this:
"I don't like the Beatles, they're music sucks. Oh sure, they're influential, but they're not any good, and their fans are sheep."
Interesting indeed.

whale, musical taste is different for everyone. I try not to go after musical tastes of people. there's good bands from each genre and i hope that they are the ones you listen to. whatever.
One can not like a certain type of music, but should be able to appreciate what that band has done to influence the music industry as a whole. Or in some cases, what they haven't done.

Thats me.
I don't care for the Beatles in the aspect that I do not put them on to listen to them. I do, however, respect them for what they have done, think the are some of the best artists of the modern age, and are certainly better than most of the bands I listen to.

As a Human being I have no feelings either way agaisnt John Lennon. To me he he's grupped together with all them hippies. On his message I have read and chuckled. All those hippie thoughs and feelinsg always come to a screeching halt at the end of a rifle. That's because they knew they wouldn't fire. The one they did was at Kent State in 1970. Thou I doubt they would stick those flowers say ... a Soviet Soldier's Barrel or any other country with little reguards for human life. Let's say China or North Korea.
Everyone is alwasy brave when you know your safe. Same reason why college kids sound off to cops because they know that about 99% of the time nothing will happend. It's that 1% of the time that people act shocked.
But in places like in Tiananmen Square the true realities of how the world works came all too clear. Same reason why Dictators get away with atrosoties every year. No matter what good will you have nothing will change untill someone decided to kill and die for that ideal.

It's nothing to do with Macho. More about being real. As none of you could counter a point to Tiananmen Square or other countless times when protestets lost to violence. It's the same comcept with communism and socialism always sounds great in paper and in theory but it never works in real life.
Cling to your icons as you's like it still doesn't change anything after all all of John Lennon's words where finally silenced by Mark Chapman. Now granted Mark Champman didn't kill John Lennon because he disagreed with his Social and Political views.

QUOTE]His words were never silenced. That fact SHOULD have been made obvious by the fact that we have a thread honoring him. People still learn from and teach the words of Lennon every day. Educate yourself.[/QUOTE]
We have threads here ranging from spray on condoms, The Westboro Baptist Chuch will every was quick to want to Maim and Kill (not that I disagree) but not very Lennon-like, Dave Ellis being waken up by Fire Alarms to anything.
I don't need to educate myself on Lennon's teachings just as you dont need to educate yourself on what I seen first hand in the world. From Ethnic Clensings in Bosnia to Civil War in Africa that we could had easily stop but we didnt intervene since 'it wasnt our war'as a Colonel told me. That is why I belive what I do.
I have seen that words are just wasted breath unless backed up by any kind of action. A lot of people like to Protest and make statements yet not many actually take a stand. Many cry about the humane conditions in China yet they all shop in WalMart. Many hate president G.W. Bush yet even with a high Number of voter turn out last year he managed to get relected and many people. Specially among my background, many Hispanics didn't vote. Yet many i know that didnt vote are the ones I hear complaining. I know the "stolen" election is going to be thrown up. I have read some of the claims. Some evidence is disturbing but I havent read enough on it to form my own opinion on the matter.

John Lennon has to be one of the most overhyped people that ever lived.
He made some good music, yeah, but I'm sorry, he hadn't been relevant in
any way for years until he DIED. Trust me, I was alive for during that period,
unlike many of you.
I am sorry he died, it was a sad thing, but how he has been romanticized in
the media is nothing short of mind-boggling.
Believe whatever you wish about him, and I will continue to do the same.
