How often should I replace this?  My marker is coming on a year old and still has the orginal one.  I've shot about 16,000 or so paintballs.  It seems to be getting a little rough.

The obvious answer is when it breaks or I loose it, but surely there is a recommended time period.

I am going to have to disagree a little with Snick. I have found that as my detent gets older that consistency of velocity begins to suffer. Also, even when the detent is still in good enough condition to prevent double feeds with positive-feed electric hoppers, paint chops become more frequent...explaned by the weaker detent allowing a partial feed of the next ball (not enough to push the first ball into the barrel, but enough so that the next ball gets clipped pretty hard as the bolt slams forward).

The thing though Bruce is when the Cyclone sits idle, there is no way a ball can try rolling into the chamber. This is because the feeder arm is in the way. Because of that, you dont need to worry about your above statement of the second ball getting "clipped" by the front bolt as it come forward. the feed sprocket only starts being turned to feed the ball into the chamber once the valve has been hit by the rear hammer. This means that the front bolt is already in the forward position, so then the next ball is fed once the bolts go back due to the blowback gas. 

Im not trying to start something, I am just explaining my reasoning behind my statement.

Yep, you are correct that in the case of the Cyclone there is no feed pressure until the shot is made and the next ball needs to go into the receiver. I started to qualify my comment then lost track, after a couple of interruptions, that my info was general and not applicable when using the Cyclone.
