One of the women I work with managed to spill coffee on her Motorola razr, and it has passed away, leaving a french vanilla smelling corpse.

What she wants to know, is if she buys a new phone from a private source, will she be able to transfer the SIM card to it, or will Cingular (her provider) not allow that?

What I'm asking is can she buy a phone from a place like ebay, and use it with her existing account or will she have to go through the whole rig-a-marole with the provider, including activation fees?

Oh, and she didn't buy the warranty either.

is she SOL?

I figured I'd ask you guys before I tried tech with cinglar.

Yeah, all of this is assuming that the SIM card is not damaged. I'm hoping that the problem is with the power source, since the thing won't even turn on.

do you know anyone that has cingular swap the SIM cards and test it... most of the times when liquid gets on cell phones it is the battery that craps out the SIM card should be ok.

As long as the phone is supported by the same service and the SIM card is still working, which it should because my phone was pushed into a pool with me and still works to this day, it will work fine with no problems to her or to Cingular.

Thats a good plan.

And here I thought you'd never prove helpful.

Oh, and your friend that switched out the phones, are they of the same make?

ouch that hurts

It doesn't matter the SIM card will work in any phone that Cingular has. He had a Motorola, Nokia, and Cingular phones and it worked in all of them

nextel works like that. just pop the sim out and plug it in, as long as the SIM itself isnt damaged.
