Well, mine just showed up today. Heres some pics of interesting stuff. You all know what it looks like stock, so I just took pictures of the more interesting things.

$30 red dot sight and a foregrip from a gun store. The foregrip is made in Israel so I guess thats kinda cool...Or something...

Neat packaging.

In case you wondered what it looks like with everything stripped off, there you go. Except I forgot to pull the mag well off. Same old stock barrel, but they changed the grip around quite a bit, its pretty slick.

Thats right, Serial number 0000070

A look at the new cyclone. The holes in the cylinder allow for venting of exhaust gas, and to prevent air in front or behind the piston from slowing it down. Thats how the thing feeds upwards of 20bps now. The feeder stars inside are also a new material, almost a soft rubbery plastic. Should be alot more fragile paint friendly.

It shoots just like an A5, good balance though. Its definately lighter than you would think for so big of a gun.

Upon closer inspection, is that the Spec Ops symbol on the side of the marker?

I'm interested to see if the magazine is authentically sized for an AR mag. if it is, I'm gonna replace the one that came with it with a shorter, metal one that will be a little more durable.

0000061 here, baby.

And I think I disagree with some previous posters about the magazine.  It is clearly made of thinner plastic than the other parts of the gun, but this is necessary for it to serve as a storage compartment.  It has to bend to open, and still leave space inside.  The material itself is pretty rugged.

It's not "heavy" and solid the way a real clip would be, but that strikes me as a function over form result.  Heck, maybe Tippmann will offer a more solid version without the tool storage as an alternative.

More random X-7 pics, this time of the front shroud.

This is very clever.  I don't have enough experience with military or milsim equipment to know if it original or not, but it certainly is clever.

The shroud attaches to the main body with two pushpins.  Easy on, easy off, easy switch.  The barrel threads/breach is removable and interchangeable with A-5 breeches.

The fuzzy closeup of the shroud shows how the rails on the sides are removable.  This opens up the possibility of direct attachments, if anybody should feel so inclined.  The font sight (and the rear sight as well) is just a rail attachment, and can easily be moved/removed.

Of course.

And then I went to Dave's where I shot it and took it apart, and attached some stuff.

Pictures follow.

Fully disassembled:

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311098">

Trigger housing - very similar to the A-5.  A little different due to the selector safety:

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311099">

Gas line/tombstone attached - not the same tombstone as the A-5, but similar.  The mag well slides off:

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311100">

Various dark pics with all my crap on it:

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311101">

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311103">

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4311104">

And here is an interesting feature - since I attached all my stuff to the shroud, it all comes off with the shroud.  How's that for modularity?  Go from excess attachments to no-non-sense play in about 10 seconds:

It's basically like the A-5.  Two receiver halves, but with separate grip, and the guts come out for cleaning.  As with the A-5, you will probably never need to separate the halves.

I'll probably buy one just for the X7 cyclone, then return it. Seriously man I really want those paddles.

The overview you're showing looks promising. I was afraid you'd be talking about how front heavy it is, or that the extra stuff wears the joints down. But if not then that's a very good thing.

Is the powdercoat a rough texture?

it would make sense to have a one piece body, if you dont need to have the 2 recievers apart. it would help the gas usage, and it would be more durable then it already is. jsut my thoughts

Good to know. Guess I just have to be patient. Probably after first of the year, or soon as the initial production run is completed of the X7's.

I definately don't enjoy having brittle paint. Even running it at 300psi into the cyclone it's still not friendly. But if I can make it gentle on paint then I should have mucho better success.

Meph - the finish is rough-like.  It has a different look/feel than aluminum receivers, IMO.  Definitely not shiny, but not rough on the skin either.

You know, the creepy part is...

Enos' A5 was serial numbered 70 also.

What ever happened to that comic strip enos wrote (a LOOOONG time ago) after his plastic power tube broke? Where the A5 power tube went to heaven and sat there talking to the procarbin and 98c power tubes, only to find out they both were run over by tanks, and the A5 tube was cracked in half with a screwdriver....

Dag. Got to test out the X7 today. Inspected the cyclone, those paddles aren't quite what I was expecting. Still pretty much a hard plastic, just now a different color. I was hoping for them to be made out of the material that the 2nd Generation ratchet was made out of. Sort of squishy, yet firm enough to still feed without trouble.

Oh well. Still like the hopper top. Low profile.

I'm not a big Spec-Ops fan; mainly because of the noobs who run around justifying their bloated sense of self-worth/skill because they read something on the Spec-Ops websight once and kind of used it in a game in their backyard against their 5 year old little brother: ("OMG I'm da 1337 uber-snyper!") But, I must give them credit for bringing a lot of new people into the woodsball side of the sport and helping keep paintball's roots alive.

Edited Note: It is probably unfair of me to blame Spec-ops for this; it is more likely just the result of the interaction between their Delta-Force marketing hype and the agg-speedball mentality. What the heck, I'm going to blame them anyway.

I have to say, I absolutely hate the hopper.

the lower profile calls for it to be elongated. Any downward angle shooting causes rounds to stack up in front of the hopper. Rapid fire at even the remotest depressed angle led me to have numerous misfires.

the A5 Hopper did that too, but not nearly as bad, as there wasn't as much space ahead of the cyclone feeder housing.

serial number 320.  WHen i took it to the corn maze to do some hunting of others, I had a real major problem with paintb breakage. Myabe it was just the cold or something, but my first 5 rounds were shotgunned out the barrel, and this was premium paint! Had better luck with generec Wally World paint.

They are interchangeable. (Played with them at the local shop.) Do not like the low profile X-7 hopper, but the R5 looks real sharp on it. Also, the front angle of the R5 should prevent some of the feed problems mentioned above.

Downside is the lower ammo capacity of the R5. Proving yet again that I have no life, I counted how many paintballs the lined "sniper" version will hold and came up with an average of 171 after five loadings. (And the rubber lining only makes it slightly more quiet than my stock hopper with my homemade neoprene "bikini" cover.)
