Has anyone ever thought about it??  (Putting an Apex Tip on the 98 Flatline)

The 98 Custom Flatline might not initially be able to accept the Apex UMS Mod Adapter as the Outside Diameter is a little too big because of the tip of the barrel (where all the porting is, is wider than the rest of the barrel), but it could be sanded down and then it would be sure to fit the Apex, as the rest of the flatline O.D is pretty skinny and the Curve doesn't go right until the very end in the 98C Flatline like it does in the A5 Flatline.

I figured it was probably wasn't a great idea and therefore I didn't post this in the Upgrades Forum.  But Once I get all of my woods gear bought (this will take at least three years) as I easily have another $1500 to spend, and must pay for University first.  But I figured I'd probably try it, much later on, even if I had to do a bit of sanding because I'd have a Digi Camo job done to the whole gun so it wouldn't look that horrible and plus I'd be using my Apex on my J&J most of the time anyway probably, unless this worked better than I expect.

I figured this would be a cool thing to try for people that have both.

My only concerns are:

  • More barrel breaks,
  • The 98 Flatline only porting is at the Tip, where the Apex Tip would be, therefore air out exit that porting into the UMS MOD and maybe even the Apex itself, this could cause the Apex to shift or move maybe and lead to maybe more breaks because then after shifting/moving it wouldn't be screwed on right.

The possible range for this should be farther than ever acheived if it works but the balls might not break anyway unless they hit something really hard and even still, but it should keep some good cover fire from far away, up in a castle or something while your front guys move up.

Plus newbs think that the farther the ball can go obviously means that the ball will hurt more once it hits you, so it could be inimidating for some.

Anyway it's just an Idea I had, what do you guys think?

Be honest, but please try not to flame or be rude.

Thanks

I don't think it would increase your distance at all. The flatline works by a slightly "rough" patch closer to the beginning of the barrel to create spin. If you put the APEX on the end, I think it's friction would only serve to disrupt the already spinning paintball before it exits the barrel. And even if you did manage to increase the amount of spin put on the ball, it would more than likely move more laterally than horizontally, thus losing potential "range."

I agree with pilot. The ball will already sometimes fly up. It seems like it would cause a lot of barrel breaks IMO.

Also how old are you? I wouldn't think you were old enough to actually go to college.

The porting on the flatline comes off just to let you know...it's a little slid on sleeve basically. What pilot said about the ball being disrupted when run through the apex stands true, especially when you would turn the apex for curved shoots and dive bombs. The ball would already have backspin then hit a ramp putting sideways spin on that...makes me wanna try just to see what it does.

I don't think it woll work for another reason...  The flatline is tuned to work at certain velocity ranges, it puts enough spin to get a flat trajectory.  If the velocity is too low, there is not as much spin and it will not fly flat (though flatter than straight barrels).  If the velocity is too high, there will be too much spin and the ball will curve upwards, before it comes down.  Now if you put on MORE spin from the Apex, you are only increasing the amount of spin on the ball, so at a normal velocity, the ball will fly up wildly.  More backspin does not equate to more distance at the same velocity.  The flat trajectory of backspin barrels is only accomplished by matching the amount of backspin with the right velocity.

Thanks everyone for your excellent comments, and barn-user if you do try it out.  Please let us know how it works, or even a video might be nice.

I just turned 19 on October 10th.  I started going to University last year when I was 17.  So therefore I am in my second year and as this Business French degree with Spanish minor is only a three year program I only have 1.5 years left and will be finished University at the age of 20.  But then I'm thinking of going to teachers college so I can teach French and Spanish at High Schools as a back-up Career, because there is great benefits, the pay is pretty good, they need French teachers really badly, and they always seem to need teachers so I could always have a job if working at a corporation or large firm and interpreting doesn't work out.
