i would go with the J&J. The size of the 12 or 14' doesn't matter. They will give you about the same accuracy. It just coes down to how long do you like your gun or what position you play. I like my Ion being small so I got a 12' pipe kit.

I wouldn't want a 12' or a 14' barrel.

Here's the story...

They're both nice, but I think the Lapco is better. From experience, I think it
shoots straighter and is more accurate than the J&J. Also, I just think it
looks nicer.

Now, for the 12" or 14"... I'd say go 12" because the extra 2" of the 14"
could get in the way at some point. You're getting the same functionality, so
why not make it smaller/lighter?

Lapco 12".

The Lapco is more accurate but the J&J is quieter, and lighter.

the forum has pretty differing opinions when it comes to this subject. if you can try out both and buy the one you like better

I have both. I believe the Lapco is slightly more accurate (even in the shorter lengths-mine is 8 inches) but the J&J is quieter. The J&J shoots through breaks much better than the Lapco.

I love my 14" JJ. It shoots multiple types of paint without problems, cleans itself, and is rather quiet. It is also able to accept teh Apex tip for added distance should you want it.

Wanna shoot through a break? Use some Rain-X in the barrel. Follow the directions like you'd do the windshield of a car (two coats and buff).  The Rain-X will fill in all those very fine machine marks and it will be glass smooth. Accuracy improves and paint won't stick if you get a break. Three or 4 shots and you're good to go again.

you forgot to mention the fact that the j&j can shoot through broken paint in the barrel, while the big shot needes to be cleaned

Trust me, I know all about that. With a knee and two back surgeries behind me I don't move fast at all. On the rare occassions when I do (at the field) theres all kinds of comments along the lines of "OMG, I think I saw Mac running!", "Get a stretcher!" and "Do you need oxygen?"

I've never had any trouble from my Lapco. Then again I have never tried the J&J either. I am running an 8" and can reach out as good as guys with 12" barrels.

Alright, you already made your decision, but since this seems to be a common question, I'll weigh in for people still considering.

I own both in 14" and am able to do a head-to-head comparison. The Bigshot is less paint-picky and overall more accurate. The JnJ seems to shoot through breaks a tad better, but the extra porting seems to collect paint in such a way that it seems to negate this. The JnJ is more quiet, but personally I think this is the least useful selling point of any barrel. Despite the supposedly superior coating of the JnJ is seems less smoothly polished than my LAPCO which is like a mirror.

For the extra $10-$15, go with the LAPCO. LAPCO one peice barrels(autospirit, microshot) are IMO the best one-peice barrels out there.

I have yet to try the rain-x trick since if I screw it up, I have no clue how to get rid of the stuff and wouldn't want to apply it unevenly and wreck my accuracy, but it seems like it'd be great if you don't bork the job.

If anybody purchases a new barrel and thinks the accuract is lacking, wash it with hot soapy water, rinse well,(a trip through the dishwasher works) then swab with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, then dry swab it. This will remove any oil it was packed with and may be left after a few games. Accuracy will be restored and stellar.

is there a chance rain x could mess up the barrel?

they're both good.   j&j is quieter, bigshot is every so slightly more accurate.  you probably won't be able to tell teh difference.
