Yeah, that thing is a beast. It wouldn't even be comfortable to watch in most living rooms.

I saw that article.  It is the first TV I have seen that is actually bigger than my setup - front projector FTW.    ;)

But since my wife is bugging me for a bigger screen at home I don't know that this would work either...

It's only 14 inches taller than my front door, not including the pedestal on the TV.

any bigger or more expensive you can just hire the cast of everybody loves raymond to recreate the episodes right there live (well except peter boyle)

Sell your wife, and contract a company to make you a bigger screen. That way, you have a new screen for free, and no more nagging by the Mrs.

thats a nice misleading size chart they have there.  the screen is only 94 inches tall, yet they put the 108" vertical there to try to make people think its really that big.

Edit- Wait, yeah, the screen is measured diagonally. I don't see where it says how tall the whole unit is.

That's overkill, if I ever see that in someones house I'll just laugh

All monitors are measured diagonally. Don't believe me? compare the diagonal measurement to you TV and computer monitor.

I think he meant the chart to the right with the human sillouette, yes its 108" tall but only if its on an angle.

I wonder if I can convince my dad that having a 108" TV is entirely nessecary to watch Alabama football.

Do you really think they need to be misleading when the TV is already taller than a person????

think about how much the screen gets stretched while watching a movie. most movies start to look like bad quality at 50 inches.

You're a funny one. But I tend to agree, so I'll fix it.

I wonder if I can convince my dad that having a 108" TV is entirely necessary to watch Alabama basketball.

Bigger sets do not equate to more pixels. 1920 x 1080 = 2.07 million.

Two words:  High Definition.

I have a 95" screen.  I can barely stand to watch regular TV on it for exactly that reason.  But HD programming and DVDs look absolutely freaking amazing.

I got the setup primarily for football and movies (with XBox/PS3 to come), and it is perfect for those uses (except that the wife wants a bigger screen for movies).  Football is amazing - you can actually SEE the plays and the players (and the ball), instead of just kind of knowing what's going on.

Every house I own from now on will have one of these setups.

I have a 19" tv with no volume control on my remote, and enough ports to either have gamecube or my dvd player hooked up.

Heh - when we were fresh out of school, we shared a TV with the neighbors.  The first few years are rough, but eventually things stabilize and you will have a few extra dollars.  I think I was out of law school 5 years before I ordered anything other than "whatever is cheapest" at restaurants.

:)

Not really.  Projector setups are not nearly as expensive as people think.  Certainly not cheap, but not super-expensive.  The screen/projector, including installation, costs about the same as a very nice big-screen TV - $4k-$6k or so.  There is a lot of variation in projector cost, but that's kind of the "nice-middle" range.  And unlike TV's, there is no real cost difference between a medium screen and a giant screen - you just whatever will fit in your space.

The trick is that there is no sound, so you HAVE to get receiver, speakers, etc. all separate.  This is the same gear you would get if you bought a nice surround-sound setup for your TV, but with the projector it isn't optional.

So the cost is basically the same as buying a nice big TV + surround sound, but you get greater modularity and flexibility and a bigger screen.

so apparently a lot of people misunderstood me.  yes, i know screens are measured on a diagonal.  on the "size and specs" picture on the left, it shows a vertical height of 94".  on the "size comparison chart" on the right, it shows a vertical of 108" as well as a vertical of the 94".  the screen is not 108" tall, so why even put it there if they are not trying to make people think its bigger than it actually is, granted its plenty big already.
