Meh. NASCAR is one thing I've never cared for. Along with most professional sports, save hockey.

Never could get into Nascar....It's not the redneck idiot rumble that it used to be, but it's just not cool enough to hold my interest for very long.... http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70140-0.html - This , on the other hand, is interesting...

I used to be big into NASCAR. Toyota's entrance has been long in the making.

My dad is going ballistic. Same when it happened to the Truck Series.

Me: Meh.

I've never been into NASCAR, though a lot of my relatives are. I'd rather watch something...productive, like rooster fights.

I think it was going to happen eventually whether people wanted it or not. It was just a matter of finding a "foreign" nameplate willing to pony up the bucks to gain entry and approval (note - Nissan looked at the truck series, but didn't want to pay NASCAR's price). I find some of the flap about Toyota amusing, since Monte Carlos and Impalas are built in Canada, Fusions are built in Mexico, and Chargers are a product of a company now headquartered in Germany.

Beyond that, boogity. Let's get back on the track! The only reason the off-season wasn't painfully long was because I moved in the middle of it, thus effectively shortening it.

PS - RIP Benny Parsons.

NASCAR is great when you go see it at the track, like Daytona. I cant sit and watch the race anymore.

I do watch INDY racing once in awhile.

The coolest racing seriesesessses aren't in the US much. F1 has one race here, I don't know if the WRC comes here at all, etc.

It's funny, since none of the nascar race cars share common components from their street varients, that anyone would get that worked up over the "manufacturer" of the race cars...

Anywhoo, I don't watch racing anyway...so, meh.

When it comes to racing now, Rally is where it is at. Nothing even comes close to the badassary that Rally drivers pull.

Actually Nascar was made up of mostly Bootleggers. Had a thing on the History Channel the other day. To this day the most races won record is being held by a Convicted Bootlegger.

QFT

I don't think it'll matter that Toyota joined up. Seems like Chevys are always winning the races, but it has more to do with the team working on the car than the car itself.

Toyota was bound to enter. Not big deal.

Real racers drive straight to the finish line while the others drive in circles looking for it.

I hate NASCAR, all they do is drive around in a circle.  I dont consider hopping in my focus and going to the grocery store a sport, NASCAR isnt either.  cant remember where i read that, but i liked it.

I like motorcycle racing.  NASCAR won't run if the track is even slightly moist.  Motorcycle racers drive in downpours, with speeds in the 100's, and only 2 wheels.

rally/MotoGP>*

Which driver? I know Richard Petty (200 wins) had made a deal with his mother not to do any alcohol endorsements ever, which is why neither of the two Petty cars carry the Bud Pole Award contingency sponsorship.

I'd love to see some changes to NASCAR's equipment myself. I've always thought it would be interesting to see - even if it were just for the two road-course races - the cars required to match the template of their street car equivilant. I'd like to see the schedule drop a few of the 1.5 mile tracks that are visited twice in favor of a few other tracks. Kentucky, Road America, Laguna Seca, bring back North Wilksboro and Rockingham. Throw in a dirt track like ARCA does, too.

NASCAR may not be perfect, but it's certainly attracting drivers from other series like crazy. Tony Stewart came over from Indy cars, as did Robby Gordon. Ricky Carmichael is doing a transition to NASCAR from motorcross racing. Juan Montoya is the big news guy this year, coming over from F1. He's making the other drivers laugh a little in the pits, because of his crew of assistants that follow him around handling little details for him. I believe it was Jeff Burton who referred to them as the "Juan-terage". It's where the money is, it's where the sponsorships are, and it's where some of the best drivers in the world show up.

For anyone who wanted to take a look at NASCAR, but not sit through a three- to four-hour race, check out the Craftsman Truck Series. They're shown on the Speed Channel all season long, and open their season at Daytona right along with Cup and Busch. The races are shorter, the trucks handle different than the cars (they bounce around a little more), and the drivers tend to be pretty aggressive. Part of that is due to the short races, and part is that most of them have something to prove. Good mix of drivers, between young lions trying to step up to the Cup series, experienced veterans working their way into a slower schedule, and the handful of guys out there just shooting for the occassional truck win.

Yikes... sorry, I get a little long-winded in the mornings when the topic is something I like.

I get a kick out of the morons who throw the "redneck" gag out all the time.

I for one, can't stand NASCAR, its boring....but I've got a pretty well off cousin stationed in Alaska who watches it with regularity, testament to the negation of the idiotic stereotyping of the fans of a particular sport.

It'd be like saying "everyone who plays paintball is a 14 year old doomed to virginity for the rest of his life."

Have you been to Alaska? It's pretty redneck itself...

NASCAR is the reason other countries laugh at American races.  With cars that are basically all the same and drive in ovals for hours, whats to love?   Real racing is Formula One, Rally, those "Trophy Trucks" or any other racing that involves using the brake and turning right.

i agree rally is pretty badass...  however dirt track racing, even though 99% redneck, is pretty full of action....  it's like a giant drifting race...  except the rules are pretty straight foward....  but still, rally is the best...  if only it was televised more.

So no on the NASCAR in the sky thing? You're prolly right, I mean, any wrecks would be more tragic than exciting or cool, and minus the wrecks, it'd just be a much of planes flying around in circles....Unless they do races from one point to another, and still, not that exciting...

Just because someone has a lot of money, does not make them any less redneck or white trash.  Take Kevin Federline for example...
