so i learned the hard way today that when your leaking anti freeze to not substitute it with water last night we had a big freeze i think it was like 10 degrees last night. I hoped in my car started her up and was on my merry way 10 or so miles down the road i go to turn on my heat it felt like i had the air conditioning going the tempature gauge showed that i was at normal temps and everything so i just figured i was low on fluid so it was reaching the heater core couple miles later my temp gauge all of a sudden just went through the roof i pulled over  let it cool down popped the hood felt the raditator and it was freezing cold i looked at it some more aqnd noticed that like 8 or so of the fins where cracked  from ice expanding inside them

so yea i just figured id share a new way to destroy your car

Why the hell would you substitute water for anti-freeze.

When I swapped my car from auto to stick I flushed the system and refilled it 60/40. My motor has a problem with burning off coolant from a failing headgasket.  I was  getting fed up with constantly dishing out 8  bucks for a gallon. Which now leaves me now with a radiator that got owned by lazyness.

If you have a bad headgasket then you have a whole mess of problems already and shouldnt be running it, why you would replace anti-freeze with water is beyond me lol. But im told most anti-freeze only works down to like 15-18.

The head gaskets made for pre 98 neons where defective they do not provide enough sealing on cylinder 4. When I did a compression test awhile back it was 234 245 238 153.

As long as you didnt have antifreeze or in your case water in the oil then you gasket aint gone yet. But I would get that fixed while your at it.

Distiled water is fine for coolant. I believe nascar's use water for coolant.  Distiled water works fine, just not in the winter.

You should have fixed that headgasket when you did the tranny swap.
