Ok, so my buddy bought a M98 Pro w/ ACS and E grip from ActionVillage despite my warning to him that they dont take returns and that they sell used guns as new ones. Heard it from several people online, happened to me and him. When i bought my impulse the gauge was blown and had scratches on it everywhere, as well as an opened and poorly repackaged box. His 98 was the same way, scratches around the velocity adjuster hole (can we say used?) and other dings on the body, definately not from Tippmann like that. Anyway, he doesnt want the hassle of sending it out to Tippmann and waiting weeks for it to return. The problem you ask? As soon as he aired it up, leaking inside the body. We took it apart, battery was inside upside down (does tippmann even send them out with batteries?) and we decided not to open the valve body yet. Put everything back together, and put oil through it with atlest 40-50 shots with just air...still leaking. The faster you go the more air leaks out. Im guessing (ok more than positive) it was used and despite Actionvillages claims of no returns they took it back anyway from somebody who screwed it up somehow, repackaged it and gained back there $200 some dollars for it. Ok now I ask, how hard is it to put the valve clip back in, and take apart and clean/lube the internals of the valve? Ive taken my Maxflo apart on my imp countless times to clean and relube, so would you recommend sending it out or trying to clean out the valve. Sorry if i rambled.

The valve can be a real pain in the ass to put back together once you've got it apart. Even then, you need the full rebuild kit get get new seals if you need them.
First things first though, where is the air leak coming from? Does it leak down the barrel? is it leaking from the middle of the marker near the gas-line? Is it leaking through the cocking-slot by the hammer? That will help us diagnose the issue. It could just be a loose fitting or a bad powertube o-ring. (which is much easier to fix). http://www.tippmannparts.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=438&categoryID=12 - This is probably what you need, Of course, seeing as how the marker is apparently rather damaged, tearing down and re-building a valve can be a royal pain in the butt, I'd suggest just getting a whole http://www.tippmannparts.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=442&categoryID=12 - replacement CVX valve
Without seeing the marker myself and taking the valve apart, I can't tell you if it's the valve seat or possibly the rear-end that the seat seals against. It could even be a valve spring issue. Ultimately, your friend should call up Action Village and inform them of what has happened. Explain that you'd like a replacement valve sent out, or for them to cover the cost of a purchasing a new one. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Keeprolling, go take a look at disassembling the power valve,about the 16th post, in Marker Trouble? Read Maintenance Archive Read the whole archive for a lot of good info of trouble shooting a marker. Taking apart the power valve (CVX) is not difficult, particularly with the complete set of pictures I have included in that post. I haven't bought from Action Village in nearly a year. I have not had a problem with returning defective merchandise (other than a case of over-age paintballs that they shipped as "fresh" to me). They have stood behind what I have bought from them. Action Village is a major player in the paintball merchandise arena. I'd really be surprised that a call to their customer service people wouldn't get your friend a replacement. -------------
